When we tested vacuum cleaners, we put them through a rigorous series of floor-care tests on hardwood floor and other bare floor types, carpet and other surfaces. The process took over 150 hours to complete. It also consumed many pounds of sand and rice, plus hundreds of handfuls of pet hair. How we test cordless vacuums
Putting cordless vacuums through their paces isn't as complicated as testing a robot vacuum cleaner, but it still takes lots of time and careful effort to find the best cordless vacuum.
We hauled in 10 of the latest models from leading vacuum brands with high user ratings and reviews, and ran them through a series of tests designed to measure overall proficiency. We also tested cordless vacuums in a range of prices to see how much of a difference you can expect when you opt for a pricier model over a budget pick.
Testing cordless vacuums on different flooring
We run each vacuum in a straight line across three different surfaces (hardwood, low-pile carpet and midpile carpet). On all three test beds, the test area is 30.25 inches long.
The width of the test bed is proportional to the vacuum's nozzle width. We measure this width ourselves. We also use nozzle width, plus the flooring type, to calculate the soil density for each test, per International Electrotechnical Commission guidelines. The IEC is a global standards body responsible for managing testing procedures, among other things, for vacuum manufacturers.

Testing the cleaning ability of each cordless vacuum
We use three types of soil. To simulate small particle size, we use a mix of play sand and landscaping sand. To emulate larger dirt particles, we use uncooked black rice. To see how vacuums deal with pet hair, we use our mixture of clippings sourced to us through our local pet groomer.
We run tests in a straight line across all three floor types.

When choosing the best vacuums in various categories we considered other factors associated with each.
We noted any vacuums with especially short battery life or a particularly heavy weight that might make them a less desirable option.
Cordless vacuum battery life and runtime
Most of the vacuums on our list feature a runtime of 40 minutes before needing another charge. The Dyson V15 was the exception with a full 60 minutes of runtime. In truth, it's a rare occasion that one would need more than 40 minutes of runtime for a single vacuuming session. Because of this, battery life was not weighted as heavily as other features.
Cordless vacuum weight, size and bin capacity
All of the cordless vacuums were between 4 and 6 pounds, but none were so heavy that it affected our recommendation. All of the vacuums on this list were also very similar in height and overall size. The Dyson models are both roughly 49 inches while the Tineco A11 is shorter at just 43 inches tall.
The Dysons and Tineco all have bin volumes of about 0.6 liters. Our budget pick, the Moosoo XL-618A, has double that capacity (1.
3 liters) so you'll need to empty the bin less often.
Cordless vacuum warranties
The standard warranty for cordless vacuums is a two-year limited warranty and each vacuum on this list meets that standard. In general, you should expect your cordless vacuum to last longer than two years but it's nice to have a backup plan in case something breaks within that time frame.

Right now, based on our tests, the cordless vacuum with the best suction power is the Dyson V15 Detect. It removed the most sand, rice and pet hair out of all the stick vac cleaners we've evaluated so far. And it did so across multiple floor types.
Are pricey Dyson vacuums worth the money?
One company, in particular, saw this cordless trend coming. British company Dyson was the first to pioneer this field with a series of capable -- yet pricey -- Cyclone V series stick vacs designed with impressive suction and cleaning power to leave the competition in the dust. Rivals have since followed suit and now sell cordless vacuums of their own. Some manufacturers of cordless vacuum cleaners have even shamelessly cloned Dyson products. Others are distinctive new riffs on the cordless vacuum, with innovative dust-busting features all their own.
Despite the many knockoffs, Dyson vacs still perform at a higher level than other brands, in our experience. Perhaps it's the head start it's had in refining these smaller machines or the extensive research and development that goes into making them.
Dysons are pricey, but worth the money if you have it to spend. If not, there are plenty of cheaper cordless vacuums that will do the job and keep your home clean.
How long should a cordless vacuum last?
Each of the cordless vacuums on our list includes a two-year limited warranty but a quality model should last you significantly longer than that. That said, cordless vacuums do take a beating and you shouldn't expect any model to last much longer than five years if used regularly. This is certainly something to consider when selecting a model.
Having your vacuum serviced after the warranty has expired may not also be worth the money, depending on the particular issue. To suss out any potential lemons, we dig through buyer reviews on multiple retailers to see if any vacuum brands or models have consistent breakage issues, either with the motor or external parts.

If you're shopping at an upper mid-range price point and don't need the Dyson V15 Detect's automatic power adjustment capability or particle sensor, consider the Samsung Jet 90 Complete.
Performance on flat surfaces is fantastic, and it also does a very good job of dealing with debris on carpeted surfaces with its bristled Turbo Action floorhead. The vacuum's lightweight construction makes it easy to maneuver in cluttered areas, and its five-stage filtration system is very effective when sealing fine debris. You can expect a maximum battery life of almost an hour in its most energy-efficient mode, but its high-power 'MAX' mode can drain its battery in as little as 10 minutes. It also only comes with a single battery, even though its rack station has enough room to charge two batteries at once.If you want a vacuum with two batteries, the LG CordZero A9 Ultimate is a suitable option, though you can charge only one battery at a time. The LG does an outstanding job cleaning bare floors and delivers good performance on low-pile carpets, but it isn't as effective as the Samsung on high-pile carpets. Looking for something lighter? Consider the Dyson V12 Detect Slim, though be aware that its less potent suction motor results in inferior performance on carpeted floors.

The Tineco PURE ONE S11 is a great option if you're looking on the affordable end of things but aren't willing to sacrifice versatility.
Unusually for a vacuum in this price range, it has a built-in dirt sensor that lets it automatically increase its suction power when cleaning areas with a high concentration of debris and also has a HEPA filter that does a good job of sealing in allergens. Performance on bare floors is fantastic, though it has a harder time dealing with debris embedded in low-pile carpet. Unfortunately, its relatively affordable purchase price is reflected in its inferior battery performance to the Samsung Jet 90 Complete, as it can only run for a maximum of about 40 minutes.If you want a mid-priced cordless vacuum that does a better job of handling debris on carpeted floors, the Samsung Jet 60 Pet is a fantastic alternative, though it lacks the Tineco's self-adjusting suction power capability and doesn't do as well on bare floors.

The best budget cordless vacuum we've tested is the Wyze Cordless Vacuum.
While it feels considerably less durable than the Tineco PURE ONE S11 and lacks its automatic power adjustment feature, it's cheaper and produces a similarly strong real-world suction force, so it does a good job clearing debris from crevices. It performs impressively well on carpets, cleans up pet hair very well, and does a good job on bare floors, though bulky material can get stuck at the entry to its dustbin. Unlike many other budget-friendly vacuums, it has a HEPA filter to trap fine particles as you clean, which is great if you suffer from allergies. It supplies a maximum of one hour of runtime in its most energy-efficient 'ECO' mode, though its runtime drops to a little over 10 minutes if you run it in its high-power 'TURBO' mode.If you're looking for a budget-friendly cordless vacuum that struggles less with bulky debris, you could consider the Tineco PURE ONE X Tango, which has a longer battery life and charges much faster. When you study the vacuum cleaners in the store, it is better not to read out the section " Characteristics" in detail - there is too much information, it distracts from the main parameters and is misleading. Therefore, I highlighted the criteria that you need to pay attention to in the first place.

The main problem with the design of cordless upright vacuum cleaners is that manufacturers underestimate the power of the model in an attempt to reduce weight. A light and inexpensive model can effectively remove dust from bookshelves, while wool and large particles of debris will remain in place.
To cope with serious pollution, it is better to choose equipment with a power of 50 watts or more.
The main thing is not to confuse suction power and power consumption. The second parameter indirectly refers to the quality of cleaning - it only indicates electricity consumption. Often, it is the power consumption that flaunts on the packages, since it is more.

- Dry vacuum cleaners are the most popular models that can replace the classic corded model. They have good maneuverability, a large number of nozzles, but they will not clean tiles or laminate from dirty stains.
- Hybrid vacuum cleaners with a removable cloth - often sold by sellers as models with dry and wet cleaning, but inferior to full-fledged washing ones. They suck up dust and wipe the floor with a damp cloth, which is periodically moistened with water. They will cope with stains and smudges, but will not wash the floor after heavy pollution or spilled soup.
- Full-size washing models - equipped with a large clean water tank, because of this they gain weight and lose in maneuverability. But with such a vacuum cleaner, a mop or a rag will not come in handy. The nozzles of such vacuum cleaners, as a rule, are smaller than those of models with dry cleaning.
Number of nozzles. There can be a lot of nozzles in the kit - sometimes they make up almost half the cost of a vacuum cleaner. Here are the main types of nozzles that will definitely come in handy:

At the same time, the parts are made of high-quality plastic - they do not wobble or bend. And the price is lower than the top models of Dyson or Samsung: Xiaomi does not ask for an extra 30 or 50% of the cost for "European quality" and "brand history".
