How to decorate a small bathroom window: Curtains for a bathroom window, photos and design ideas
In an apartment building, you rarely see such a miracle as a bathroom with a window - this is usually a nice feature of the layout of country houses and townhouses. Bathrooms in them are traditionally larger than similar ones in a city apartment. Surprisingly, homeowners often wonder how to close the window in the bathroom. In fact, it implies several smaller questions: how to hide from neighbors' eyes and not lose the view from the window, which curtains to choose for the bathroom, what material is not afraid of moisture, and are there sustainable trends in the design of curtains for such windows. It would seem that you can decorate the window with curtains for the bathroom of any design. But at the same time, roller blinds or roller blinds are considered the best choice, unambiguously recommended by decorators and designers. Why?
Lowe's Home Improvement
Functional Bathroom Screen
Large and small windows offer different design approaches. For a small opening, there is no need to resort to draperies and lambrequins. However, simple solutions are often the best option for any bathroom window. So, the roller blind is inexpensive and looks aesthetically pleasing. Drawings can be absolutely anything: from solid colors with a large palette of shades and textures to fashionable prints. For bathroom roller blinds, polyester-based fabrics are used, with the addition of fiberglass, with PVC coating, and there are also familiar mixed solutions (polyester with viscose, satin, cotton). By analogy with a curtain for a residential interior, a roll-up curtain in the bathroom can be with light, medium, strong and full shading (blackout).
Advice: When choosing curtains for a bathroom window, you should look not only at the dimensions of the opening, but also at the practicality of the fabric. fade in the sun, are not afraid of dirt, dust and pet hair do not stick to them. Such curtains are shown "conditionally wet cleaning" (that is, they can be wiped with a damp cloth).

Types of roller blinds
A roller blind is a fabric wound around a shaft to which a lifting device (lever, chain or electric control) is attached. From below the fabric is weighted with a plate.
If we talk about varieties, then there are open and closed systems for folding roller blinds. In the first, the twisted fabric (the roll itself) is visible, and in the closed ones, it is removed from prying eyes behind an aluminum box.

mini rolls. When open, their fabric hangs freely. When airing the window, it can dangle from the wind so that this does not happen, the lower part of the curtains is fixed with special latches or magnetic fasteners. You can also do this with the help of a stretched vertical fishing line, which is not visible when the roller shutter is lowered, since it is literally hidden behind the fabric.

2. Closed cassette roller blinds
They are installed on the window sash along with side aluminum profiles (or guides) into which the fabric is tucked. This ensures a snug fit of the canvas to the window and, as a result, the absence of gaps. When using blackout fabrics in such systems, it is possible to achieve complete darkening of the room. Why you might need it in the bathroom is a question, but if suddenly you love watching melodramas on the screen from the projector, lying in foamy water, dimming can come in handy.
Cassette roller blinds can be controlled by a chain mounted on a shaft, as well as a spring mechanism that starts rolling the blind itself when you remove the latch. Lifting is controlled by a handle, which is attached to the bottom of the canvas: one of its positions keeps the curtain in place, the other starts the movement of the shaft in one direction or another.
Windows By Design
What is important for a bathroom curtain
With a spring mechanism, the shaft with a textile sheet can be installed not only in the upper, but also in the lower part of the bathroom window. In this case, you can close the curtain from the bottom up, which allows, for example, to close the person who is washing from prying eyes: the lower part of the window is closed, sunlight continues to flow through the upper one (an excellent example in the photo).
Cassette roller blinds are attached to each sash separately. Which fits perfectly into the concept of modern styles, where the open frame will not be dissonant with the design of the room as a whole (sometimes you want to hide the bathroom window with textiles).
Fact : Cassette-type bathroom curtains allow the use of a window sill - with such systems it always remains open.

Day and night or zebra shades
Two years ago, in 2014, a novelty appeared on the market - fabric roller blinds "day and night" (or they are also called "zebra"). There are two differences between "zebra" and ordinary roller blinds:
- The use of a special fabric in the curtain, in which transparent and opaque horizontal stripes alternate;
Total Window, Inc.
- Use of this sheet in two layers using a special weighting compound. An important detail for curtains on the window to the bathroom (see photo).
"Zebra", unlike other roller blinds, allows you to control the access of light to the room by shifting the strips. It is enough to move the canvas just a few centimeters and the curtain turns from tightly closed to half-open.
At the same time, it can be rolled up like a regular roller blind and there are also cassette models. "Zebra" can be installed both on each window sash, and close all the sashes at once (mounting on a wall or in an opening). The fabric roll is usually hidden in an aluminum box. In the collections of fabric manufacturers - from simple plain to textured with different prints, including floral.

. Standard measurements suit most buyers: the height of the fabric of finished products is 170 cm, and the curtain can be easily shortened in width at home. Available width options: 43, 52, 60, 73, 80, 120, 130, 140, 150, 160, 180 and 210 cm. If none of these measurements fit your window, you will have to order a curtain in the studio or sew it yourself hands.
Pictured: large bathroom window

. When installing a curtain in an opening or on a window frame, you also need to take into account the dimensions of the structure, that is, measure what width the roller with the mount will have.
Tip: If desired, the width of the finished curtain can be changed. To do this, completely unwind the curtain and remove it from the aluminum tube (roller). Using a hacksaw or a jigsaw, shorten the tube and weighting agent to the length you need. Cut off the excess with scissors from the curtain fabric, and then assemble the structure again.
Incredible Windows!
A big plus of roller blinds is that you don't need any special skills or tools to install it yourself. From a salon or store you get a canvas wound on a shaft and a set of various mechanisms and fasteners (chain mechanism, roller, clamps, brackets, clamps). Fasteners are not included in the kit and are selected depending on the materials and design of the mounting site. But this is not a problem at all, since adhesive tape or self-tapping screws can be found in every house, the curtain is attached to one of them.
The curtain is usually supplied with installation instructions. It describes four simple steps for installing an open free-hanging curtain: insert the chain mechanism and the plug into the pipe, insert the roller blind into the mounts, attach the assembled curtain to the installation site, mark it with a pencil, drill the mounts with screws, insert the curtain into them. Not only a man, but also a woman can cope with such work, besides, there are many instructions on this topic on the Internet.
Tip: You can mount the curtain both on self-tapping screws and on double-sided tape. Self-tapping screws are a more reliable option, because there are cases when, after some time, roller blinds installed on adhesive tape simply flew off the windows. However, if you don't want to ruin the frame, choose duct tape.

1. Mounting the roller blind in the opening
To correctly size the shade for installation in the opening, you need to measure the width of the window opening and subtract 2 cm from it on each side.
You need to be aware that when installed in the opening, gaps remain at the top (approximately 5 cm) and on the sides. The gap on top is due to the fact that the roll is attached to the walls of the opening on two brackets, and they have a certain length. Gaps on the sides within 2 cm are formed due to the fact that a technological gap is provided between the shaft mount and the brackets, which ensures free rotation of the shaft (usually 2 cm).
However, these gaps are more critical for the bedroom than for the bathroom, you just need to know about it. And if you do not want clearance from above, you can close the roller blind (the shaft itself) with an aluminum box.
When attaching the curtain to the opening, it is important to correctly calculate the place of attachment so that when it is open, it does not interfere with folding the transom.
Erin E. Kaiser, Kaiser Real Estate Sales, Inc
2. Attaching the roller blind to a wall or ceiling
With this method of attachment, you can add 3-5 cm on each side, then there will be no gaps. But gaps inevitably form between the curtain and the window, approximately the width of the shaft on which the curtain hangs.
3. Attaching a roller blind to a window
Curtains with an open mechanism can be attached to a bathroom window, but as a rule, it is still hidden behind an aluminum box, and the curtain itself is tucked into the side profiles.

The main disadvantage of roller blinds
A word from Prosperity-design specialists: “The main disadvantage of roller blinds is that this option is much inferior in beauty to the same Roman blinds made of designer fabric.” With all the richness of patterns and ornaments, roller blinds rarely look as impressive.
Designers traditionally consider roller blinds to be technical: “For example, you go on vacation or for a few days, covering all the windows with roller blinds. In this case, curtains, Roman and other "main" curtains can be left untouched so as not to disturb the beauty of the fold. So you save the “main” curtains and furniture from burnout and prying eyes. In other words, a roller blind is not used in this role most of the time: other compositions work for window decor - they are created depending on the proportions of the window and the technical features (arrangement of plumbing) of the premises.
But if you are faced with the task of decorating a window and closing the bathroom from prying eyes on your own, even a technical roller blind will perfectly cope with this task.

Doing a general cleaning of the bathroom: a step-by-step plan - INMYROOM
Cleaning the bathroom will be faster and easier if you make a to-do list and follow it strictly. And little tricks - life hacks - will help you easily clean any surface and restore perfect order without additional expenses.
1. Perfect result: cleaning tiles
It is best to start cleaning the bathroom with tiles. This is usually the bulk of the work, especially if the walls are tiled from floor to ceiling. The fastest way to clear ceramic tiles from soap stains and limescale - apply cleaning foam. However, modern household chemicals are far from being harmless both for the environment and for humans.
A more environmentally friendly way to clean tiles is with soapy water, a soft sponge and rubber gloves. Wash tiles from bottom to top and wipe from top to bottom - this optimizes the work. Severe dirt can be removed with a solution of vinegar in water - take 200 milliliters of vinegar per 1 liter of water.
Pay special attention seam . This is where mold most often appears. The steam generator will do an excellent job of processing the seams. If you do not have such an assistant, use a toothbrush. As a detergent, you can use a bleach solution or ordinary vodka. After cleaning the seams, apply an antifungal agent to them. A weak solution of such a tool will be useful to treat the surface of the tile. This applies to both wall and floor tiles.
InMyRoom Tip: To increase the effectiveness of any detergent, run the hot water in the bathroom for a few minutes and close the door before you begin. The steam generated on the walls will help when cleaning the tiles.
2. Color therapy: removing stains on painted walls
Bathroom walls are finished with a special paint that is not afraid of moisture and contains antifungal components, so, as a rule, there are no problems with painted surfaces. However, dust settles on the ceiling and walls, and stains may also appear. To gently clean the ceiling and walls from dust, it is useful to store a separate nozzle on the mop. It is better to choose a nozzle with a fine soft pile in order to be able to carefully wring out the fabric - it should be damp, but not wet.
Do not wipe painted surfaces more than once every three months. To remove stains from a pencil, pen or dirty fingers, use a regular eraser.
InMyRoom tip: grease stains will be removed from the wall with a piece of chalk. Rub it on the stain, wait a bit, and then remove the chalk with a tissue or brush. The procedure must be repeated until the stain completely disappears.
3. Like a tear: getting rid of plaque on glass surfaces
Glass surfaces, such as shower doors, require constant maintenance. It's great if you have time to wipe the glass with a soft cloth after every shower. However, this is not always the case - and drops of water remain on the door, which by the end of the week turn into limescale mixed with soap stains.
To clean the glass surface, steam out the tub. Turn on the hot water and wait until the glass fogs up: this way you will avoid. scratches from fine dust and make it easier for you to clean your windows. For washing, use special products or a solution of vinegar in water (200 milliliters of vinegar per 1 liter of water).
InMyRoom tip: don't apply the detergent all at once to a large area - it will dry out and be harder to clean than dirt. After cleaning, dry the glass door with a soft cloth or clean towel.
4. Magic of reflection: polishing mirrors
Every morning, after getting out of the shower, we wipe the misted glass with our palm, which immediately again covers with a veil. This is such a familiar and well-established ritual that no one even thinks that it is extremely inconvenient. But the problem of a misted mirror can be solved very easily: wipe the mirror surface with glycerin, and then apply a thin film of shaving cream. Then polish the mirror with a soft cloth. Simple and very effective!
Common water splash and toothpaste stains can be removed in several ways. The simplest and most budgetary is water and paper napkins: it almost always works flawlessly. If the dirt is persistent, use a mixture of ammonia with toothpowder (1: 1). An alternative option is vinegar with water (1: 1). In both cases, after processing the mirror, you need to rub it with a paper towel until it shines.
InMyRoom tip: there are even more interesting mirror cleaners. For example, milk. It is enough to dip the cloth in milk and wipe the reflective surface with it - the mirror will shine like new. Hairspray drops can be removed with any perfume or men's cologne.
5. Shiny: Tidy up your bathtub and sink
The best place to start cleaning your bathroom and sink is to clean the drain. This is an excellent prevention of blockages, and in addition, a clean drain ensures that water drains quickly and speeds up the cleaning process. The simplest, but no less effective means for cleaning cast iron and steel enameled bathtubs are soda or citric acid. Baking soda can be used to clean the bathroom like a regular cleaning agent. If the dirt is strong, wet the surface with water, and then sprinkle baking soda on top. Rub a little with a sponge and leave for 20-30 minutes. Rinse off any remaining baking soda. The result will be no worse than in advertising special cleaning products.
Citric acid must be dissolved in water (1 sachet of acid per 200 ml of water). After applying the acid, wait 15 minutes. Then wash off with soapy water. After this treatment, the surface must be thoroughly rinsed with water.
Acrylic bathtubs must be cleaned differently: use dishwashing detergent or shower gel. If smudges appear on the bathroom, it is enough to take a soft cloth and moisten it with lemon juice or table vinegar, and then gently wipe the stain.
InMyRoom Tip: Small scratches on the acrylic surface can be removed by yourself. To do this, use a polishing material such as mastic, furniture polish or car polish.
6. Indoor environment: disinfecting baby toys
Over time, rubber and plastic bath toys become moldy. This is an extremely dangerous fungus that must be removed immediately, and if this is not possible, throw away the toy. The best way to prevent mold growth is regular cleaning and disinfection. In addition, toys should dry completely between baths. Do not wash children's toys with chlorine-containing substances. The remains of such aggressive chemicals are more dangerous than the fungus itself.
To rinse the inside of the toy, fill it with a solution of citric acid (1 sachet of acid per 200 ml of water). If mold has already formed, leave the solution inside for 20-30 minutes, and then rinse the toy thoroughly with water. To clean all the toys at once - draw warm water into the basin and dilute the gel for bathing the baby in it. Lower the toys and leave for 20-30 minutes. Then rinse the rubber toys and sponge the plastic ones. Rinse with running water and dry on a towel dryer with the opening up.
InMyRoom Tip: If mold is a lot and hard to get, it's best to throw the toy away. An alternative option is to process in a weak solution of whiteness. After treatment with whiteness, the toy must be thoroughly rinsed with running water.
7. No limit to cleanliness: fighting dust in the bathroom
Due to high humidity, dust quickly settles on the floor, shelves and cabinets in the bathroom. An effective prevention to combat it is a vacuum cleaner. And, of course, wet cleaning. Wash all bathroom rugs at least once a week. Store clean towels in closed cabinets. If possible, keep all jars, tubes and equipment behind closed doors.
InMyRoom Tip: Flush the duct grate regularly. It accumulates a lot of dust and small debris, which makes it difficult for air exchange in the bathroom and contributes to even greater accumulation of dust. Rinse off the dust thoroughly - the gray coating is easily wiped off with soapy water or soda. Wipe the grate dry and then replace it.
8. Fresh emotions: washing towels
When the bathroom is sparkling clean, it's time to do the laundry. Wash towels separately from other laundry in hot water and rinse in cold water. To disinfect, deodorize and refresh the color of towels, add 60 milliliters of borax and 60 milliliters of soda to the laundry detergent when washing. Please note that your laundry detergent must not contain phosphates.
The trouble with many rinses is the waxy coating they leave after use. Because of this, the towels quickly become hard. Vinegar can be used instead of rinse aid - add it to cold water and rinse towels. It's great if you have the opportunity to dry your towels in the fresh air. Sunlight is a great disinfectant. After this drying, towels can be hard to the touch. However, at the slightest humidity, they instantly soften.
InMyRoom Tip: If you dry your towels in the dryer, use a high heat setting and remove them when they are 95% dry. Then you will not overdry the towels and they will remain soft and fluffy.
9. More greenery: turning the bathroom into a garden
Many people think that the bathroom is not enough light and too high humidity and temperature for indoor plants. It's time to dispel this myth and green the room. Live plants look great in bathroom décor and are hard-working dust fighters.
If your bathroom has a window, the choice of plants is practically unlimited. Give preference to tropical plants with plain foliage - they love humidity and warmth, and the minimum amount of daylight from the window will be enough for them.
If there is no window in the bathroom, you will have to cheat a little. Darkness has its advantages - they prolong the flowering period of tropical plants. So, you can put a blooming orchid on a shelf in the bathroom and it will delight with its inflorescences for 2-3 months. Then, the plant will need to be replaced with another.
InMyRoom Tip: During your “rest”, provide the soil with additional nutrition, and the plant itself with sufficient, but not excessive, sunlight and fresh air. Thus, you can constantly rearrange plants, replacing one with another without harm to their health.
10. Finishing touches: redecorating
It's amazing how easy and quick it is to freshen up bathroom décor by simply changing the shower screen and replacing the toothbrush holders. A double shower curtain will look original and cozy - the inner side can be made of any moisture-resistant material. The outer curtain has the right to be absolutely any, for example, linen. Natural materials will create a pleasant and original impression.
