The Obama house is certainly something to behold.

Former President Barack Obama and his family have completed the purchase of a $11.75 million waterfront house situated on nearly 30 acres on Martha's Vineyard – an affluent island located south of Cape Cod in Massachusetts. And it is stunning.

The expansive 6,892-square-foot house sits on nearly 30 secluded acres fronting the Edgartown Great Pond between Slough Cove and Turkeyland Cove, with views of the Atlantic ocean.

Designed by Taylor Lombardo Architects in San Francisco, the home was built in 2001 by John Early, a well-known and hugely trusted Island contractor. And it's in a spot the Obamas love – it's no secret that they have enjoyed spending down time at Martha's Vineyard whenever they can.

In fact, Martha's Vineyard has been an annual holiday spot for the Obama family since their time in the White House, and now they're putting down roots in the gorgeous villa that they rented over the summer.

The home features seven bedrooms, eight and a half baths and several stone fireplaces. There is a two-car garage, a detached barn and a pool.

The property also offers direct access to the pond, and includes a boat house and a private beach front with deeded rights, as per the listing on LandVest.

Rumors of the impending sale have been circulating since late summer 2019, when the Obamas rented the property for several weeks. The family are often seen on the Vineyard during summer vacation.

The area has been popular with vacationing celebrities and politicians for many decades – Presidents Clinton and Kennedy both spent the holidays here with their families. However, this is the first time a former President has bought a home on the island.

Martha's Vineyard is an island south of Cape Cod in Massachusetts, USA, and is famous as a summer vacation destination for Americans – and vacationers from other countries.

What celebrities live on Martha's Vineyard?

Other than the Obama house, Martha's Vineyard has a scattering of homes that belong to – or have been rented by – the rich and famous, both past and present. They include the Jackie Kennedy Onassis house (see her former home in our dedicated feature), Oprah Winfrey (you can take a tour of her Montecito home by clicking the link), Larry David and Bill Gates.

Late in 2020, Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Tom Brady moved to Indian Creek Island near Miami beach. Then, in March 2022, he announced his retirement, before surprising fans with a return to the team for the 2022 season.

Before relocating to Florida, Brady and Bündchen lived in this beautiful home in New England home, and it is certainly a sight to behold. Below, you can take a video tour to see the interiors of the Brookline, Massachusetts, house, which eventually sold for around $32 million.

Regarded as one of the greatest football players ever, Tom Brady, also known as Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr., wasn't drafted until the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft.

It was in 2020 that Tom Brady said goodbye to the New England Patriots on social media, capping off a historic 20-year run that would seal his status as an all-time great.

The news was about as big as it gets in the American football world, but in real estate circles, the announcement came as little surprise. Only a few weeks prior to his departure, the star had ramped up the marketing campaign for his Massachusetts mansion that had been on the market for $33.9 million.

Take a tour below – it certainly is one of the world's best homes.

A two-minute video on the listing page takes us on a tour of the gated estate, which Tom Brady shares with his wife, supermodel Gisele Bündchen.

The pair first marketed it for sale in summer 2020 at $39. 5 million; it eventually sold for around $7 million less.

The change of location was believed to be popular with Bündchen, who reportedly told Vogue : 'I’m not going to lie. Cold is not my flavor. I’m Brazilian. I’d rather live barefoot in a hut in the middle of the forest somewhere.'

According to Sotherby's International Realty, the five-bedroom property centers on a 10,000-square-foot manor built by Richard Landry, the same architect who built the couple's last home in Brentwood – which the pair sold to music mogul Dr. Dre for $40 million in 2014.

Situated on more than five acres and adjacent to the 9th hole of The Country Club –the oldest country club in the United States – the home features extraordinary views of plush landscaping, all while offering much-needed privacy.

Results of Barack Obama's rule - results of Barack Obama's presidency

Obama's Resets and Coups

In 2016, the 44th American leader became a "lame duck" - his presidential term is coming to an end. The last year in the White House coincided for Barack Obama with a personal anniversary - in August he turns 55 years old, and this is another reason to take stock. Obama himself has already begun to do so, calling saving America from a new Great Depression his highest merit, and intervention in Libya his biggest mistake.

He managed to reset US relations with several countries, abandon former allies and shake hands with former enemies, receive the Nobel Peace Prize and launch several military campaigns. What else do you remember eight years of Barack Obama - in the material TASS.

"I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully serve as President of the United States and, to the best of my ability, guard, defend, and uphold the Constitution of the United States. And God help me," with these words, January 20, 2009year, the first African-American president in US history began.

"Barack never promised that our life would be luxurious - only that it would be interesting. He kept this word," says Michelle Obama about his wife.

Obama's presidency began with a misfire. He had to go through the oath procedure twice. The fact is that on January 20, the chairman of the Supreme Court, reading out the text of the presidential oath, got a little confused and violated the order of words, and Obama was forced to repeat them incorrectly. The second procedure took place in the Cartographic Room of the White House. Journalists were not allowed there. "We decided to repeat the procedure because you get so much pleasure from it," Obama joked.

The closure of Guantanamo was Obama's first attempt to keep campaign promises and his first failure. The day after taking office, he ordered the closure of the prison, where, since 2001, captured al-Qaeda militants, supporters of the Taliban and other organizations that the US government considers terrorist (they are also banned in the Russian Federation) have been kept. Human rights activists were waiting for this decision by Obama, but Congress opposed the intention of the new US administration to try Guantanamo Bay prisoners on American soil and keep them in local prisons.

The G20 summit in Great Britain became the first serious test in the international arena for Obama and his wife. The reception in honor of the "twenty" at the British Queen was held in violation of the protocol - Michelle Obama put her hand on the shoulder of Elizabeth II, although no one has the right to touch the monarch.

Russia became the 14th country visited by Obama in the first year of his presidency. The visit was marked by the signing of the START-3 Treaty. At the same time, a "reset" of US-Russian relations was announced. This was one of the main achievements of Obama during the first term. However, the success was not consolidated.

In October 2009, Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. The Nobel Committee considered that he "created a new international climate" and contributed to "the work for a world without nuclear weapons." In many ways, this was an advance that Obama tried to justify all eight years of his presidency.

The largest environmental disaster in US history occurred during Obama's first term. In April 2010, an explosion occurred on the Deepwater Horizon platform where BP was drilling at the Macondo well, killing 11 people. It was possible to stop the leak only three months later, when, according to the authorities, 4.9million barrels of oil.

"I'm not against all wars. But I'm against stupid wars," Obama said while still a senator. On September 1, 2010, almost two years after his victory in the presidential election, Obama announced the end of hostilities in Iraq.

On December 18, 2011, the last units of the US armed forces left Iraq, leaving this country virtually on the brink of civil war. In addition, Iraq has become a new springboard for international terrorism.

Obama's most discussed initiative within the United States was health care reform, unofficially called Obamacare. Its goal is to provide health insurance for 32 million Americans who have not yet had access to this service. However, the reform also caused discontent, as it led to a deterioration in insurance conditions for many citizens and an additional burden for small companies.

In 2011, Obama ordered to carry out an operation, as a result of which on May 2, the leader of the al-Qaeda terrorist group (banned in the Russian Federation), Osama bin Laden, was killed in Abbottabad, Pakistan. "Justice has been served," Obama said, announcing to the Americans the death of terrorist N1.

Obama never concealed the fact that bin Laden was being punished and considered the operation to eliminate him the greatest success in the fight against al-Qaeda. However, he acknowledged that the fight against terrorism did not end there. Ironically, it was in 2011 that a new round of chaos began in the Middle East, which led to the emergence of new terrorist groups that surpassed Al-Qaeda.

"Arab Spring" - a wave of protests and coups in the Middle East and North Africa began unexpectedly for the United States. However, then Washington came out on the side of the opposition forces in all countries of the region, including Egypt, with the authorities of which the United States had previously associated allied relations. In Libya, the Americans decided on direct military intervention in the conflict. Other countries also took part in the operation. "I thought it was right at the time," Obama later recalled.

The consequences of the invasion of Libya, Obama called the worst mistake in the eight years of his presidency. The operation ended only after the physical destruction of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi by the rebels. The situation in this country has not yet been resolved.

This year was marked for Obama by a new election campaign. The slogan of 2008 "We can" was replaced by a simple call "Forward".

After his re-election, Obama had to face one of the most high-profile crimes in recent US history. On December 14, 2012, 20-year-old Adam Lanza opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. 20 children aged 5-10 years and six adults were killed.

Addressing the nation in connection with this crime, Obama could not hold back his tears. "Every American parent has felt a terrible weight in his heart," he said and promised to do everything possible to prevent such tragedies.

The G8 summit in the USA fell on the time of Obama's election campaign. His agenda included issues related to the world economy, food security in Africa, the situation around Afghanistan, Iran, Syria and North Korea.

Obama becomes the first American leader to visit Myanmar.

Throughout both the first and second presidential terms, Obama was always by his wife Michelle, who, according to journalists, has all the qualities necessary for a first lady - first of all, the ability to support her husband.

Being re-elected president of the country in 2012, Obama, like many other American leaders, did not escape the "curse of a second term", lost his former popularity and faced new challenges.

On April 15, 2013, a terrorist attack took place at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three people and injuring 264. This was the first terrorist attack on US soil since September 11, 2001.

The scandal with the leak of classified materials to the press was also a challenge for Obama. In June 2013, Edward Snowden, a former CIA and National Security Agency officer, gave The Washington Post and The Guardian information about massive surveillance by the US and British intelligence agencies of Internet users, as well as politicians and officials.

The scandal with Snowden, who asked for asylum in Russia, has caused friction between Moscow and Washington. However, everyone pretended that the "reboot" was still going on.

In 2014, the whole world learned about the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS, banned in the Russian Federation), which actually replaced Al-Qaeda. In June, the terrorists seized a significant territory of Iraq and became more active in Syria, declaring the creation of an "Islamic caliphate."

In August, the US Air Force began to bomb positions of the Islamists in Iraq, and in September - in Syria. At the same time, under the auspices of NATO, an international coalition was created to combat ISIS. According to some reports, Washington's spending on the military campaign against the group amounted to $ 5.5 billion, the daily costs for these purposes amount to $ 11 million.

Obama believes that he saved the US from another Great Depression by signing the $787 billion American Economy Relief Act back in 2009. Detroit was the symbol of the decline. In 2013, the debt of the US automobile capital exceeded $18.5 billion. Detroit became the largest bankrupt city in American history. However, it emerged from bankruptcy at the end of 2014. Infrastructure is being restored in the metropolis, conditions are being created for the development of small and medium-sized businesses.

At the end of 2014, the US and other NATO countries announced the completion of the "combat mission" in Afghanistan, which began in 2001 after the September 11 attacks. Control over the situation in the country was handed over to the national army and security forces.

"I want the Afghan people to understand that America wants to end this era of war and suffering," Barack Obama promised back in 2009 and tried to keep his promise. However, the situation in Afghanistan still cannot be called stable.

2014 was a turning point for Moscow and Washington. The "bone of contention" was the situation in Ukraine. That same year, in an interview with The Economist, Obama said he "doesn't feel let down" by the nature of his relationship with Russia. "We had a very productive relationship with President Medvedev. We did a lot of things that needed to be done," he said. At the same time, he called the current President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin "a serious factor of tension."

For his part, Putin admitted that he did not have a "personal" relationship with Obama. But at the same time, he noted that his American colleague was "a decent and courageous person."

Obama did a lot to secure a deal on Iran's nuclear dossier. Despite the resistance of part of the American establishment, his administration did not abandon the negotiations that Tehran had been conducting with international mediators (including the Russian Federation) for more than 10 years.

Obama became the first US President to be featured on the front cover of a publication dedicated to the life of the LGBT community. A black-and-white photograph of the owner of the White House graced the issue of the California weekly Out in November 2015. A few months earlier, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriages were not against the American constitution, thereby recognizing them as legal throughout the country.

Obama's second term was marked by a thaw in relations with Cuba. Although part of the American elite, mainly among the Republicans, considers this process premature.

In March 2016, Obama's historic visit to Cuba took place. It was the first trip to the island by a sitting head of the American administration in almost 90 years.

Symbolically, one of Obama's last trips abroad as president was again a visit to the UK. This happened on the eve of the referendum on the country's exit from the EU. Obama hoped that this would not happen. An informal part of his visit was a visit to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, as well as communication with the two-year-old heir to the British throne, Prince George.

On May 27, 2016, Obama became the first U.S. President to visit Hiroshima, which was hit by an American nuclear attack in 1945. During his visit, he visited the museum of memory, laid flowers at the memorial and personally spoke with several hibakusha - as Japan calls victims of atomic bombings.

November 15, Obama went on his last - as an American leader - a major foreign trip, including Greece, Germany and Peru. He made his first stop in Athens.

November 18, visiting Berlin, Obama visited Europe for the last time as President of the United States.

"The future rewards those who go forward. I don't have time to feel sorry for myself, I don't have time to complain. I will go ahead"

What is Barack Obama doing now?

Spoiler: getting enough sleep, crying, traveling and listening to Jay-Z.

It has been about a year and a half since Barack Obama handed over the powers of the President of the United States to Donald Trump. So he became the fifth living president of America, who retired along with Bush Sr., Clinton, Carter and Bush Jr. While his predecessors have already crossed the 70 mark, Obama is only 57 years old. We decided to find out what the first black president of the United States and a man in the prime of life is doing after Trump took over the reins.

Getting enough sleep

Barack Obama finally sleeps a lot and soundly. In an interview with former President Prince Harry for BBC Radio 4, Barak admitted that his life has changed a lot since his resignation. For example, now he can get enough sleep, talk for almost an hour in bed with his wife, have a calm breakfast and get down to business. While the president's life is scheduled by the minute.

Buys mansions

In 2016, Barack and Michelle rented a mansion near Kalorama Park, a 15-minute drive from the White House. Apparently, Obama was not bored with the landscape, and in 2017 he and his wife still bought this house with an area of almost 800 square meters. On the territory of the mansion there is a garden and a vegetable garden, in which Michelle likes to work, who ennobled the territory of the White House during the presidency of Barack. And Obama has interesting neighbors - 28 embassies and even the office of the defense attache of the Russian Embassy in the United States.

Travels

If you think that no one travels more than the president of any state, visiting every possible country with diplomatic visits every other day, then look at Obama's post-resignation record. It all started with a holiday in Polynesia on an island owned by his billionaire friend Richard Branson, where Barak was kitesurfing, surprising everyone with his physical form. He then traveled to the UK, Germany, Scotland, Italy, South Africa, Kenya, Australia, New Zealand and Bali. These are far from all the countries in which Obama has been noted over the past year and a half.

Makes money on speeches

Traveling around the countries and cities, Barak willingly agrees to public speaking and does not hesitate to express his opinion at conferences and meetings with politicians and public figures. On average, one speech costs about $400,000. Obama spends money on charity. For example, in 2017, he donated two million dollars he earned from performing to help low-income families in Chicago. Especially often he speaks on the topic of health care programs and the necessary reforms in this area. One of his most talked about speeches took place in July 2018 in South Africa, where Barack arrived for the 100th anniversary of the birth of Nelson Mandela, whom Obama met in 2005. When Mandela died eight years later, the then President of the United States delivered the eulogy at Mandela's memorial service. Performance in South Africa was the largest in the life of Barack after his resignation. He called to fight for democracy, ethnic diversity and human rights.

Friends with Jay-Z

Everyone knows about the mutual love between Donald Trump and Kanye West, but he is not the first president to be friends with the rapper. Barack congratulated Carter on being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and remarked that they have an important thing in common. Neither Obama nor Jay-Z would ever have thought in childhood that they could achieve such results in their careers. Barak believes that he and Carter understand each other perfectly, especially in the crazy love for their daughters. "By the way, I think I'm the only president who ever listened to Jay-Z music in the Oval Office."

Seeing her daughter off to college

And crying. Yes, Barack Obama is such a sentimental father who, watching his daughters grow up, cannot hold back tears in public. Malia Obama, the eldest daughter of Michelle and Barack, entered Harvard in 2017. At the initiation into students (a ceremony reminiscent of the presentation of student cards in Moscow universities), Barak failed to control his emotions. “I was very proud that I didn’t burst into tears right in front of my daughter. But when the ceremony was already over and we were walking to the car, the security officers tried not to turn to look at me, pretending not to hear my sobs.

Producing

Barack and Michelle Obama signed a partnership with Netflix. They will produce documentaries, feature films and series for the streaming service.
