Bold Colors

Going all in on a bold color will help infuse your bathroom with lively, playful energy. The bubblegum pink subway tiles on the wall and the almost leaf-like motif on the floors of this bathroom by designer Kureck Jones act as a prime example. Consider tapping into some of the color trends expected to be big in 2023, like vibrant orangey reds and deep magenta, when selecting a daring hue for wall and floor tiles.

Sleek Wainscoting

Typical half-paneled wainscoting is getting a modern upgrade through bathroom tiles. For a Brooklyn home, designer Eneia White used vertical subway tile in a soft muted tone to get the look. See the trend in other bathrooms including this New Jersey home designed by Toledo Geller and the 2022 Kips Bay Palm Beach Showhouse (which makes use of thick, deep green tiles!).

Mosaic Tile

There's been a renewed interest in colorful mosaics, according to Artistic Tile founder Nancy Epstein. Whether you opt for small tiles in a single bold color—as designer Charlotte Lucas did in this bathroom—or go for a multicolor display made of unique shapes and patterns, the possibilities are vast.

Earth Tones

With the rise in wellness-focused spaces, it's no surprise earth tones are having a moment. Colors found in nature inspire serenity, making them ideal options for bathroom tilework. In this bathroom by Lucy Harris, a backdrop of sage green tiles, a freestanding tub, and decorative accents work together to create a spa-like effect.

Geometric Styles

"Geometric tilework allows you to be bold and put your creativity to the test," says Ruth Foster, interior designer at online bathroom retailer Victoria Plum. She suggests coupling statement-making tilework with simple furniture. Go even bolder by pairing geometric tile flooring with plain subway tiles and a tropical print wallpaper as designer Courtney McLeod did in this bathroom.

Black and White

"A black and white tile bathroom is both classic and bold," says designer April Gandy. The color palette makes an excellent option if you want something more intricate like mosaic tiles with a more subtle effect, as seen in this bathroom by designer Leanne Ford. "When choosing patterns and textures, just be careful not to go overly bold or busy—the simpler the style, the longer it will last," Gandy adds.

Before Artistic Tile was known for its luxury tile and slab, the brand originally opened as a decorative plumbing business in 1987. As the company continued to work on full bathroom design, tile gradually grew to have a special place in founder and chair Nancy Epstein's heart. Succeeding in a male-dominated field, Epstein has led Artistic Tile since 1993 to design and manufacture patterns the design world has fallen in love with. With over 200 authorized dealers representing the brand, Artistic Tile uses its bustling headquarters in Secaucus, New Jersey, to create innovative products and keep them in stock.

"Tile allows me to take products of antiquity and update them for modern use, taking advantage of the technologies that have been presented to us over the years," says Epstein.

Inspired by her travels and accessibility, Epstein leads the design department to explore new techniques, and architecture, to see how they can make the most beautiful elements out of what's found.

Working in stone, glass, and metal, Artistic Tile has a diversity of products in stock and made inside of their facilities. Customers can pore through pages of inventory to find the missing piece to their home. The brand also puts emphasis on lot (the area where stone is removed from the earth in the process of creating tiles or mosaics) specificity.

"As you go through the layers of the earth, the stone just changes. We try to keep as tight of a lid as we can on the variation that is within the product," explains Epstein.

With multiple water jets and mosaic machines, the brand implements cutting-edge technologies to launch one-of-a-kind concepts like combining dimensional stones with metals or utilizing water jets to add grout lines for a handmade look. "Water jet technology is taking water under very high pressure and adding to that mixed garnet and being able to cut tile, stone, metal, whatever we want into any shape," describes Epstein. "That allows us a lot of flexibility."

The process from order to inception is a long one. It all starts with choosing materials before entering the shop. Then, it's time to ensure the heights of the tiles are uniform (the surface needs to be flat so there are no trip hazards in the mosaic). Next, the materials run through the calibration line, where things get a little more high-tech: The pattern is entered as a program into the water jet computer and loaded onto the beds. In between this process, the team keeps an eye on the product to prevent imperfections from going into the next step.

The materials post-calibration and loaded on beds.

Once the pieces needed to make up the pattern are complete and cut by water jets, the Mosaic Assembly Department work its magic. Each sheet is put together by hand and fitted into a tray. When it is ready for shipping, the sheet is fully grouted and prepped to go!

House Beautiful

For Epstein, there are no trends to watch in tile patterns—as she sees it, you dream it and Artistic Tile will make it without flaw. "We are always thinking about inheritability. When you're designing with tile and stone for your home, you don't want to design for today, you want to design forever," Epstein says. "You want products and designs that in 30 years from now are going to look as fresh as they did the day you installed them."

Aged and distressed country-style wood effect tiles help slow down the passage of time in the interior, making such an interior timeless.

Country

In terms of color, shades of gold and silver will play a significant role in the coming year.
Dark shades of tiles will also continue to play a prominent role, but it should be remembered that they are chosen when there is sufficient lighting in the room. A dark shade of red - burgundy, as well as purple and blue will be relevant.

Black also remains among the trends of the new year. This color in the interior should be used carefully, since a small room in black can be perceived even less. Current trends

Natural themes

Bathroom tiles of 2022 continue to embody all kinds of natural textures and colors in an eco-style. This includes wood motifs and plants.

• Wood motifs

Wood effect porcelain stoneware works great in the bathroom as a replacement for natural wood. Where the wood will deteriorate from moisture and rot, porcelain stoneware slabs will remain intact and last more than 15 years.

Wood look porcelain tiles in bathrooms can be used for floors and walls. The surface of such porcelain stoneware is made with a structural relief coating, indistinguishable in appearance from real wood. It is enough to run your hand over the surface of the tile to make sure that this coating is very similar to natural wood. At the same time, the slip coefficient of such plates due to the relief coating is low. Wood-look porcelain stoneware is ideal as a floor covering not only in the bathroom, but also in the kitchen, hallway and other rooms of the apartment. Wherever wood is used, everywhere it will give an atmosphere of comfort and home warmth.

Wood motifs go well with the design of natural stone and form interesting combinations in the interior.

• Plants

Plant textures, the so-called "floral decors" with floral decorations, fill bathroom spaces with fragrance and lightness. Such decorations in interior decoration correspond to the design tone of 2022 and allow you to add elements of eco-style to minimalist interiors, especially in the spirit of the Japandi fashion trend.

Use eco-friendly plant textures for bright, juicy accents. So multi-colored flowers will look great on a monochrome background.

Actual decor

The following features can be distinguished from the actual decor:

• Mediterranean patterns
• Geometry and abstraction

• Relief images

Small tiles

Small tiles for bathrooms and toilets are becoming popular again. Installation of such tiles may take longer than usual. Therefore, you can choose ceramics in a standard format, but with an image in the form of a pattern of smaller tiles. Such a pattern can be seen in the photo of the Cement collection.

In finishing, it is better to use neutral or pale white slabs. It is recommended to choose white, beige or cream color. Here you can add metal borders with a golden or silver tint.

Minimalism

The use of unusual textures, geometry or a lot of mosaics will not work for interiors in this style. Uniform textures and shades are welcome here. In strict minimalism, it is permissible to use no more than 3 colors without eye-catching decor. Only sometimes designers allow themselves to add blotches of other styles to minimalism or dilute minimalist interiors with a brighter range. For a minimalist design, it is better to use a classic tile with a glossy or matte glaze. It will always be in place to use porcelain stoneware on the floor with the same surfaces.

Separate mirror

In Russia, bathrooms are not large, so not all interior trends that are popular in Europe take root here. If dimensions allow, consider a large, expressive bathroom mirror. This new fashion trend has recently emerged with an eye on the future, when we have smart mirrors in our homes with automatic lighting and built-in clocks. Such an element of the interior can be interestingly combined with tiled ceramics.

Silver Root

Transparent shower

In order to create more space in the bathroom, the fashion for transparent tempered glass showers is gaining momentum. This shower model fills the space with air and adds dynamics. In a large bathroom, a contrasting floor and wall finish is suitable for this area. In a smaller bathroom, it is better to use a uniform finish so that the shower stall blends into the space.

Calacatta Royal

Marble and Granite

Natural stone interiors are timeless classics that give the room nobility and respectability. In the bathroom, the trend for embossed marble with large gray or dark veins is becoming more and more popular. Textures of granite and onyx will add chic to any space in the apartment, especially the living room.
Such interiors include expressive imitation of granite from the Obsidian Moss Gray, Calacatta Oro and Calacatta Carve collections.

Photos of the Carved River Crema marble collection speak for themselves. Trends for the 2022 season favor a classic style with a combination of golden hues and light, light marble. A fashionable feature of such interiors remains aristocracy and elegance.

Carved River Crema

The latest 3D printing technology brings the look of natural stone to porcelain stoneware slabs. This is also facilitated by the technology of carving, when a relief of natural stone is applied to the slabs. Even by touch, it will not be easy for you to distinguish artificial material from natural. Being a material of artificial origin, porcelain stoneware remains environmentally friendly and surpasses natural stone in many operational parameters.

Golden elements

Nickel-plated and chrome-plated fixtures and fittings remain popular. But over the past year, buyers began to give more preference to brass and "gilded" shades.
In a tile finish, the “golden” look of sanitary ware will be organically combined with golden borders and golden decors of the tile itself.

Metal tile

An original modern design in high-tech or loft styles will form ceramic granite with a metallized coating, as in the Milkiway Silver collection. Such textures can be applied anywhere - in the kitchen, in the bedroom, in the bathroom. In the kitchen, such fashionable tiles are used when they want it to be in harmony with modern technology. Such a unique coating will look stylish in the cladding of trendy bars and nightclubs.

Milkiway Silver

Dazzle Cosmos Grande with a lapped surface allows you to make significant accents in a modern interior. Such porcelain stoneware can decorate accent areas in the bedroom, kitchen, living room. The deep colors of this collection are combined with marble, concrete, polished and matt finishes.

Patchwork tiles

Patchwork tiles with colorful patterns add warmth and comfort to the interior. You can use it for floor and wall cladding or make accent inserts with it.

New for 2022, small patchwork tiles in bright, warming shades of orange, such as orange and terracotta.

Nautical theme

In 2022, designers suggest not abandoning the nautical theme, but using it with caution, without cluttering up the space with pictures of dolphins, ships and mermaids. Shades of blue and turquoise are suitable here. The color of the sea wave is especially relevant in the new season. The tiles of this color can be used as background for walls. At the same time, a soap dish, towel hangers or a toilet paper holder are turned into accent details, choosing these items in the form of sea pearls, shells or pebbles.

Event

"Residential" interior

In 2022, designers recommend abandoning cold utilitarian shades and turning your eyes towards the most lived-in interior. A “residential” interior is the predominance of a warm, cozy atmosphere in the interior with an abundance of cute, pleasant decor, such as candles, baskets, paintings, ottomans, etc. Here we can talk about interiors in a classic style, as well as in the style of country, Provence, eco.
Tile cladding will help complement this comfortable environment with warm colors and delicate floral decorations.

Conclusions

Collections of ceramic tiles, including porcelain stoneware, are developing within the design styles popular in 2022. Minimalistic interiors help to form a light color scheme. Natural materials remain at the top of the trends, which is why tile cladding reproduces these surfaces in a variety of ways. The textures of natural stone come to the fore with the appearance of marble, granite, onyx, as well as wooden surfaces and concrete. Floral patterns and plants are also popular in interior decoration as part of the naturalistic trend.
New for the 2022 season is the spread of metallic surfaces for modern design, as well as golden color for classic design.
Choosing fashionable tiles for your interior, you should not chase the latest trends. Focus primarily on the practicality and quality of the tile itself, as well as how cozy and comfortable it will look in the space of your home.

Hottest Bathroom Tile Styles 2022

The only color that is always relevant is white. But this does not mean that you need only focus on it. You can decorate the bathroom in different styles. It is necessary to choose the direction for the interior, taking into account the size of the room. Also, the size of the tiles for decoration depends on the dimensions of the room.

Classic

The classic style is truly out of fashion. This is the surest way to make a bathroom stylish and practical, which will not become obsolete during the life of the tile. To decorate the room, you should choose a plain tile in pastel colors or marbled. For a classic style, buying plumbing fixtures, furniture, mirrors, and bathroom fixtures is much easier than for other styles, so it's a win-win solution.

Provence

This is the same eternal direction as the classics. The main thing is to stick to a certain color scheme in the decoration. The tile should be light, pale green or lavender, purple. Milky and pale pink, sky blue shades, and other pastel colors are welcome.
It is quite allowed to make inserts of tiles with floral patterns and ornaments on the walls. But even in this case, the cladding should act only as a background for a variety of decor, which is welcomed in the Provence interior. The bathroom should be cozy and romantic. It is good to complement it with furniture and plumbing with forging finish.

Scandinavian style

Scandinavian-style interiors have become popular lately. This direction is useful both for an apartment and for a country house for the entire room and bathroom. For her, light ceramics of several tones are suitable, which are harmoniously combined with each other.
Inserts can be made from wood-like elements or with small ornaments. Also for a Scandinavian bathroom, you can choose white tiles for the walls, make them completely plain.

Modern

This style combines everything new and modern, technological and functional. The direction is equally useful for a miniature bathroom with a shower and a spacious room in a country house.
This style can be realized with the help of budget materials and using expensive Italian tiles. This is its main advantage. In Art Nouveau, many design options are used, often several colors and contrasting shades are combined. If the room is large, then it can be divided using tiles of different colors, panels with photo finishes. For Art Nouveau, ceramics of green and brown shades, beige, gray and other tones characteristic of wildlife are suitable.

Country

Country or rustic direction partly echoes the classics and Provence in terms of finishing materials. However, the tile is used a little more rough, textured, massive. Porcelain stoneware and tiles are perfect, which resembles natural materials: stone, wood.
Preference should be given to the natural palette of colors and to buy a slab of green, brown and sandy, blue tint for repair. There should not be bright accents in the lining, but it can contrast with other elements. Complement the interior with antique furniture.

Hi-tech

Someone considers this direction not the most practical option for the bathroom, but in vain. In terms of care, hi-tech is no more difficult than classic or Provence. This direction is focused on comfort. With the right choice of materials, this style gives peace, you can relax in such a bathroom.
Hi-tech welcomes clear and straight lines, a certain asymmetry. For wall cladding, you need to choose a glossy tile that goes well with mirror cabinets and a stretch ceiling. Tiles can be used in different sizes and shapes, apply stacking elements at different angles, choose complex patterns with plain tiles, combine ceramics with mirror tiles.

Loft

Loft style is useful for decorating a spacious room. Porcelain stoneware or tiles of a beige, sandy shade, under a natural stone, will perfectly emphasize it. Ceramics of a chocolate shade, the color of a brick looks beautiful. In general, imitation of brickwork - installing tiles of the appropriate shade with a run-up pattern will be the most correct solution.
Terracotta or dark brown can be both walls and floors, separate inserts on the cladding. Tiles and porcelain stoneware, which resemble concrete in color and texture, are perfect for a loft bath.

Italian style

It has a lot in common with Provence, Alpine design has the same comfort and sophistication. It is characterized by natural, relaxing shades in the interior, which help to recover from a hard day while taking a bath.
The marble finish with the addition of arches looks beautiful. In addition to ordinary tiles, you can use panels from photo fragments, if the size of the room is sufficient, as well as mosaics. Tiles with blurry patterns are also suitable. All this is well complemented by sanitary ware and fittings made of stainless steel.

Minimalist

Minimalism is characterized by laconic shapes and sizes. This style does not tolerate any mess. In the bathroom, you need to observe a clear geometry, install good lighting. Ceramics is suitable not too bright, it should not draw attention to itself.
For decoration, you should choose one or two shades of tiles without unnecessary decor and catchy texture. The shape of the tile should not be too intricate. Exactly the same simple forms you need to choose plumbing, furniture.

Patchwork

This style came to interior design from textile technology. The bathroom, which resembles a patchwork quilt, looks cute and cozy. Manufacturers offer a large selection of patterned tiles that can be combined with plain ceramics.
For this style, it is better to choose elements of a small size. The cladding made of multi-colored details looks beautiful. At the same time, the tile should be well combined in color, otherwise it will hurt the eyes.

Japanese style

It is suitable for lovers of exotic and at the same time sophistication. The Japanese style is characterized by laconic, strict lines that give peace and soothe. The tile can be used in rich light or dark shades. Suitable tiles are milky or beige, for the floor - sand. Green and red are also welcome.
Japanese style is not necessarily the use of hieroglyphs, they are not very appropriate in the bathroom. It is better to use other expressive means. If the room is large, it will be decorated with a panel with waterfalls and forests. Island style plots are the best solution. Delicate tiles depicting sakura and other plants will make the bathroom a favorite place to relax.

General recommendations

Often the owners of apartments and country houses try to design a bath in a completely different style than other rooms. This is not the best solution, because in addition to tiles, you need to pick up plumbing, furniture and other interior elements. Another misconception is that it is problematic to take care of a light tile, it needs to be washed frequently. In fact, the main problem of the bathroom is whitish stains, sediment from water. It is more noticeable on dark tiles. When choosing a tile, you should always consider both the beauty and practicality of the material. Here are some general recommendations:

1. The larger the room, the larger tiles or porcelain tiles can be used. For rooms of complex shape, with a large number of protrusions, on the contrary, a small tile or mosaic is useful.
2. To emphasize the tile, you need to choose the right grout for it. It can be the same color as the tile, but 2 tones lighter or darker. It is acceptable to use grout in contrasting colors, but such combinations should be selected by the designer.
3. Not only tiles are important, but also the laying pattern. If the tile has an original pattern, then it can be laid according to the classical scheme or apart. Monochromatic elements, products that imitate wood, should be laid in a herringbone pattern, like parquet, choosing original laying patterns for them.
4. If the tile is plain, does not imitate another material, you should choose a collection with a texture. The hexagonal tile looks beautiful.

If the bathtub in the "Khrushchev" is very small, the bathroom is combined, then medium-sized tiles, without a pattern, in light shades, are suitable for it. This will visually enlarge the room. To raise the ceiling, you can tile the lower half with a darker tile, and use a lighter cladding for the upper half. In order for the tile not to look boring, just add a few details with a pattern.
In a panel house with a separate bathroom, more options can be allowed. It is permissible to arrange a bath and a toilet with the same or different tiles in color, but it is preferable to choose the elements of the same size. Then both rooms will be in harmony with each other.
In a private house, as a rule, the bathroom is quite spacious. In this case, it is allowed to use large tiles, incl. dark shades. For a spacious room, a tile with a noticeable relief is suitable.

How to add originality

To make the interior look original, unique, it is not necessary to use ceramics from the most expensive collections. With a very modest budget, you can beautifully decorate the bathroom. Here are some ideas:

1. Tile combination. To refresh the walls or floor, to make them more interesting, it is enough to use tiles of either different sizes, or shades, or textures. Even in the smallest bathroom, two types of tiles can be used.
2. Photo tiles. This technique is more useful for a spacious room. On one of the walls you can make a bright accent from a photo panel. In the catalog of many manufacturers there are ready-made solutions. A more expensive option is to make photo tiles to order.
