7 romantic bedroom ideas to transform your space
Your bedroom should be your ultimate getaway, a place of rest and relaxation to unwind after a long day. If you enjoy romantic vibes or want to set the mood for a special event (e.g., anniversary or Valentine’s Day), the bedroom should also be a place of romance.
The room decorations in your bedroom can influence how you feel when you come home, wake up, or spend time with that special someone. By including a few romantic bedroom ideas in your master bedroom, you can create a look that reflects your personality and style.
This guide features some of our favorite romantic bedroom ideas, with options to suit everyone’s tastes. Keep reading to get inspired.
How to use these romantic bedroom ideasIf you’re like most people, you’ve looked at more home decor and decorating ideas than you can count, but you probably haven’t used many of them. Whether you’re starting with a new bedroom or modifying an existing bedroom design, the trick is to make a list of things you do and don’t want in your space.
With an ongoing home design list (you might want one for every room), you can implement these romantic bedroom ideas in a way that works for your schedule and budget. For example, if you have a small monthly interior design budget, you might add one thing from your list every month or so.
You can also use some of these ideas to add romantic ambiance to your living room or den. This works well in boho, farmhouse, and Scandi spaces.
Romantic bedroom decorating ideasTry using your favorite romantic bedroom idea to add a subtle romantic touch to your bedroom. Or consider incorporating multiple ideas together for a total makeover to create your perfect romantic bedroom design.
Set the tone with a velvet tufted bedSoft layers and textures are a must-have in any romantic bedroom, so set the mood with a velvet tufted bed. You could pick something elegant, like a velvet tufted bed with rhinestone accents, or maybe something more masculine, like a black velvet tufted bed with a nailhead trim.
In either case, a velvet tufted bed frame and headboard will instantly give your bedroom a romantic feel. This is one of those romantic bedroom ideas that you can make work for almost any style, from a farmhouse bedroom to a chic sanctuary.
Add some mood lightingMood lighting should be soft, warm, and inviting, creating a romantic atmosphere in any space. Pick the best mood lighting options for your space based on your existing style. Here are some ideas:
- A crystal chandelier with a dimmer switch above the bed or in the center of the room
- A floor lamp with a romantic lampshade or color-changing setting
- LED candles placed around the room
- String lights on your headboard, behind your bed, or around your ceiling line
- Wall sconces flanking your headboard or in the boudoir
Lighting options like these can bring your room ideas to life by casting them (and you) in the right light — literally.
Pick a romantic color paletteFor a romantic color scheme, select your favorite soothing and inviting colors. If you’d like to implement a palette, pick four or five colors for your bedroom, including two to three base colors with one or two accent colors. Options like pink, orange, and red as well as warm, earthy tones like brown and tan work well in romantic settings, but there are a variety of other possibilities.
Here are some ideas:
- Bright and airy: White, ivory, beige, pastel pink, and gold
- Mature and sophisticated: White, gray, tan, and navy blue
- Boho jewel tones: Gray, black, emerald green, sapphire blue, and amethyst purple
The best palette for your bedroom will depend on your personality and the type of romantic bedroom ideas you enjoy. Remember to use your base colors (usually neutrals like white, gray, ivory, tan, and black) for the bulk of your space, with splashes of your accent color throughout.
Your palette will help you choose paint colors, furniture, bedding, and all other decor in your bedroom.
Add a mural or accent wallWall murals and accent walls can bring large-scale beauty into your bedroom. The key is to choose one of the accent colors from your palette and play with it on an accent wall, typically behind your bed. Alternatively, you could use the ceiling instead of a wall.
You don’t have to be an artist to add a mural or accent wall if you’re comfortable with do-it-yourself (DIY) projects. For example, most people can paint a single solid-toned wall (with the help of YouTube). And if you’d like a mural, DIY peel-and-stick options make it easy and apartment-friendly.
Splurge on your beddingIf your bed doesn’t look inviting, your bedroom isn’t romantic enough. Splurge a little on your bedding — look for soft and cozy blankets, sheets, and pillowcases that make you want to dive into bed. Experiment with textures, like satin sheets or a velvet bedspread, and don’t forget your color palette.
The bed and bedding should be the focal point of your bedroom, so pick something that stands out. For example, if you want to design a bright white bedroom, white bedding is a must. Or if you’d like a luxurious, romantic space, a satin bedding set in wine red or rose pink would work well.
Create texture with soft, cozy elementsJust looking at a bedroom full of soft textures, romantic hues, and draping fabrics will make you want to snuggle up and relax. It’s all just so … romantic. Here are some ways to bring this look into your bedroom:
- Add seating with a comfy, soft pouf or a pillow pile
- Create a faux fur or satin throw pillow arrangement on your bed and other seating
- Drape soft throw blankets over the foot of your bed and other seating, or keep them in a basket
- Hang pastel or white sheer fabrics from a canopy bed or four-poster bed to create a mysterious air
- Lay out a shag or faux fur rug to curl your toes into when you wake up
The best combination of fabrics will depend on your bedroom and design. For example, if you only have space for a few romantic bedroom ideas, you might stick to a few throw blankets and pillows on your bed. But if you have more room, maybe you’ll add a few poufs, a pillow pile, and a draping canopy bed.
Brighten the space with a mirrorMirrors help make rooms look brighter and larger, and they’re a wonderful addition to your bedroom. Whether you want a dresser mirror or a floor mirror, one large mirror is usually enough. Full-length floor mirrors work well, as they’ll also allow you to check your outfits before leaving each day.
Pay attention to what’s reflected in your mirror and position it accordingly — mirrors will amplify the impact of whatever they’re reflecting. And if you want to combine your mirror with other romantic bedroom ideas, try hanging string lights around it or positioning it to reflect your mood lighting.
Design a bedroom you loveThese romantic bedroom ideas can transform your space and make your personal sanctuary more inviting. From your color palette to your bedding to your lighting, they’ll help you give every element of your bedroom design a makeover.
Add new bedroom design ideas as your life and personality evolve, allowing your space to grow alongside you. And don’t forget to keep a list of ideas you’d like to add in the future to keep you on track with your interior design plan.

Natalia Irza
Ph.D. and interior design) remained aloof from this direction. There is no romantic style in the interior, just as there is no, for example, art deco or Provence in music. And if a modern house owner wants to decorate his home in a soft pink color using pillows, ruffles and lace, and decorate it all with candles and flowers on top, he certainly has the right to do it. But this situation has nothing to do with romanticism as a phenomenon in art.

The era of Marie Antoinette is long gone, and gentle young ladies are now actively building a career, going in for sports, studying and raising children. Therefore, if we are talking about a “romantic interior”, I would rather replace this definition with “sensual” in order to get away from the association with cloying and sugary. A sensual interior is a place where all the senses are turned on at the same time, a house where you do not need to restrain yourself and limit yourself. Here you can stand with bare feet on the textured wooden floor, touch the cool marble of the walls, run your fingers along the leather edge of the chair, feel the cool air with your whole skin and inhale the aroma of cinnamon from the threshold, realizing: I am at home. In such an interior there is no place for random objects, only what evokes really pleasant memories remains here. Materials that will only get better with time - wood, stone, cashmere, silk - this is the basis of the interior for romantics, because over the years real feelings only get stronger.

Something very feminine, excessively pompous and certainly not in the trend of modern interior fashion comes to mind. You need a lot of fabrics, soft, delicate, discreet, necessarily light, translucent, flowing - they will create airiness, especially lace. Ornaments - printed or embroidered arabesques, and, of course, flowers. All in semitones, flowing from plane to plane, from object to object. Lines of furniture - only soft, enveloping, textures of furniture - enamel under white or milky lacquer or painted patinated wood. I urge you to stick to muted colors: withered rose, blue azure, faded anise, sand shades. The texture of bleached oak on floor boards, window frames, joinery is unchanged. An important detail is accessories, there should be a lot of them: photo frames, perfumed candles, figurines, vases and caskets, coasters with jewelry. The light is necessarily soft, diffused through fabric lampshades. The carpet is light and fluffy. On the walls are graphics and drawings in pastels, grisailles, sanguines, black and white photographs. Mirrors are opposite windows to enhance the effect of natural light. Taboo - rough leather, cold marble, stainless metal.

In order to arrange a small romantic evening at home, no special occasions or grandiose preparations are needed. The reason is just a desire to please a loved one, and the preparations will not take too much time, even if everything is done by hand. Why not arrange such evenings more often, thereby making your relationship more interesting and happy.
Lovely decor for a romantic dinner
Romantic table decor Romantic cinema table decor - an unusual solution Bedroom decoration for a romantic evening Romantic photo frameAnd if there is a significant occasion or a personal anniversary - the first meeting, the first kiss, etc. - then you definitely need to arrange a romantic evening, which includes a delicious dinner. You can, of course, go to a restaurant for the sake of such an occasion, but it can be much more interesting and more correct to arrange a quiet evening with your own hands in an intimate setting where you will be just the two of you.
Helpful Hints
What you need to know in order to properly plan a romantic evening at home, what kind of dinner to cook and how not to miss anything. Let's talk about some of the nuances:
- To begin with, we are planning a time for you and your loved one to have a free evening. Don't book a romantic candlelit dinner for a busy Monday night. In this case, the evening can be spoiled by bad mood and fatigue. It is ideal to arrange such a romantic evening at home on Friday or Saturday - in this case, you do not have to work the next day, which will allow you to relax and unwind properly.
- Thinking over a theme that will run through the evening. Under this theme, a menu and table design ideas are selected. For example, you can arrange a Japanese evening with sushi or an Italian evening with pizza and lasagna. Sea options. The most sophisticated evening, of course, in the French style. French cuisine gives aesthetic and gustatory pleasure, besides, many products of the French table are aphrodisiacs, which is the best fit for a romantic dinner.
- Think about where the table will be. It is better not to settle in the bedroom, otherwise there is a possibility that it will not come to dinner at all. Good ideas are to stay in the living room, and if the size of the apartment and its layout allow, then on a warm summer evening you can arrange an evening on the open terrace, or even on the roof of your house.
- Think carefully about your table and food ideas. The more beautiful and attractive to decorate everything, the more successful a romantic evening will be for you and your loved one.
- Do not clutter up the table space with a huge number of bottles, glasses, dishes, candles, bouquets and other decor. It is important that nothing prevents you from seeing and communicating with each other.
- As for the menu, do not include unnecessarily heavy and fatty dishes. Best ideas: stop at dietary meat or fish, which are better to cook with your own hands, vegetables, fruits. And coffee and sweets. In this case, you will still be able to dance and other pleasant entertainment after dinner is over.
- Think about what you will drink from alcohol for dinner. It is undesirable to opt for strong alcohol. In this case, especially on Friday evening, you can simply fall asleep after dinner, and the effect will be spoiled. It is better to drink delicious wine or champagne. You can also make beautiful simple cocktails with your own hands and decorate them with fruits and berries.
- Think about your appearance. It is important to look your best. Before dinner, take a bath, put on make-up, dress up.
- Think carefully about lighting ideas. The light should be dimmed so that the eyes rest and do not strain. This way you will be completely relaxed. The ideal option is, of course, to decorate the table with candles. Scientists have proven that if you look at a burning candle, this alone heals eyesight and calms the nerves.
- We need to arrange beautiful music. Do not use heavy rock tunes on a romantic evening. To tune in to the appropriate mood, you need beautiful, harmonious music that will not distract you from each other.
Ideas
Consider what scenarios you can arrange a home romantic evening.
Classic
Features:
- The table is always set in the living room.
- The dinner menu is traditional, hearty, but at the same time exquisite. Do not take on new recipes, cook time-tested delicious dishes. Only experiments with sauces and table decoration are allowed.
- Romantic table setting. The room is dimly lit, create an intimate twilight. This can be achieved by turning off the overhead lights and burning candles.
- Necessarily a small bouquet of flowers as a table decoration.
- The music is beautiful, classical is preferred.
Football
This variant is suitable for life partners of football fans. Everyone knows the hostility of women to male hobbies, including football. So surprise your loved one by sharing his passion for at least one evening. He will appreciate.
Features:
- You will definitely need a TV, so you will have to place it where it is in your house and where the largest screen is. Most likely, this will be the living room. But if a huge plasma is installed in the bedroom, then it would be nice to organize dinner there as well.
- It will be necessary to design the table in a football style. Nothing too expensive or special is needed for this. At home, green napkins imitating a football field and, perhaps, some symbolism of his favorite football team will do. All this can be ordered on the Internet or do it yourself.
- Include a variety of snacks on the menu. Just don't make heavy greasy sandwiches. You can cook canapes, light salads, buy snacks. Good ideas: slicing cheeses and sausages. And if a loved one is a fan of some Italian club, then there is no better pizza for him for this evening. Be sure to include fruits in the menu, with their help you can perfectly decorate the "football" table.
- The perfect drink for such an evening is, of course, cold beer from misted glasses.
- Think over your outfit. You can dress in the style of a cheerleader - girls from the cheerleading group. And in this case, it is still unknown - where all the attention of a loved one will be directed - to the TV screen or to you.
Picnic
This variant of a romantic evening imitates an ordinary trip to nature with a basket of food. But if it is winter or autumn outside, then it is quite possible to arrange a picnic without leaving the apartment.
Features:
- If you have a glazed veranda or a heated balcony, then this is the perfect place to have a romantic evening.
- The table is set without any frills - after all, in nature we do not follow the rules of serving and romantic decor very much. As a main dish, meat cooked on the grill with your own hands is ideal. It will mimic a barbecue.
- Make your own fruit basket, napkins, sangria.
- Birdsong or forest noise can be set as an appropriate background. Thus, by closing your eyes, you can fully feel yourself in nature, being at home.
Aphrodisiacs
Include aphrodisiac products in dinner for your loved one and the success of the evening will be guaranteed.
These products include:
- Various spices. Do not use too thermonuclear and sharp, like hot pepper. It is better to stay on basil, cilantro and other "soft" spices.
- Bananas and strawberries. It is very tasty if you cook strawberries in white chocolate with your own hands.
