The most luxurious Parisian bathrooms feature some sort of marble decorations. It could be a marble wall, marble floor, or a marble bathtub, for example. A gold-framed linen closet with a mirrored door provides storage.
Claude MissirClawfoot Tub
The showstopper in Parisian style bathrooms is always the clawfoot bathtub. I could easily spend all day lounging in one. You definitely don’t want to forget this key piece of the bathroom. You can also create a curtained tub effect by using a coronet and attractive fabric. On the other hand, if you prefer a more modern look, then you can go for a bathtub with a classic oval shape without feet.
KathyKuoMid-century Modern Vibes
Parisians adore mid-century modern style and many of the upper middle class apartments are decorated using mid-century modern furniture like this mid-mod bathroom vanity.
Charlotte FequetFlowers
Parisians love flowers in just about every room of their homes. The many flower markets and florists in Paris attest to the fact that this is one thing they buy really often. Here, a small batch of pink roses is displayed in a simple glass jar vase. It adds a feminine pop of color to this white marble bathroom with a built-in bathtub.
haveninVintage Gold Mirror
There is almost always a vintage gold framed mirror attached to the wall in Parisian style bathrooms! It could be over the sink, or on an empty wall. Parisian find their vintage treasures at real flea markets in Paris, but you can snag one for yourself via the many online retailers which have copied this huge trend. This bright bathroom reflects lots of sunlight thanks to its white subway tile walls.
@anne_dressingidealBlack and White Floor Tiles
The perfect Parisian bathroom always has a striking combination of black and white. It could be a checkered floor tile or other architectural elements of the space. Don’t be tempted to decorate excessively with black, but instead focus on incorporating softer shades to balance it out like creamy whites, soft ivory, and other lighter shades paired with the dark hue.
The Socialite Family / Florence ElkoubyBrass
From lighting to fixtures, you definitely want brass in your bathroom to get the Parisian look. This bathroom has brass pendant lighting hanging down over the sink which has been outfitted with an aged brass faucet.
@lindsaymarcellaStriped Towels
French design is known for its use of minimalist stripes. Many bathrooms in Paris have single-stripe towels for guests to use to dry their hands. Blue is the accent color of choice, but you can also find other colors like gray or red.
The Socialite Family / Dorothee BoissierTowel Warming Rack
Every time I rent an apartment in Paris, there is always a towel warming rack installed on the wall. This is really considered a ‘basic’ in French apartments. No matter how small the apartment, there’s always a towel warmer! I think Americans would do well to adopt this handy little gadget, don’t you?
This Parisian bathroom has a pretty floral floor tile with a gray clawfoot bathtub resting on it. This narrow bathroom shows that you can still make a large bathtub work if you install it horizontally!
haveninAdd a Pop of Color
These ocean blue herringbone tile walls certainly make for an eye-catching bathroom wall. Don’t be afraid to experiment with color, as seen here in this brass and white bathroom. Blue stands out in this space, including on the white floor tiles which have been dotted with blue paint spots. The wood bathroom vanity and brass metal fixtures and accents throughout help to warm up the space immensely!
Charlotte FequetBe sure to add bathroom accessories like beautiful glass perfume bottles, antique glass vases and some dried flowers to your space to make it really Parisian.
A few more decor ideas not shown in these photos include using sheer white linen curtains to filter the sunlight in the room and showing off those famous parquet herringbone wood floors that Parisian apartments are known for. For a country look, go with hexagon terracotta tiling. For a more feminine touch, consider adding a small antique vanity to do your makeup in the bathroom.
As you can see, Parisian bathrooms are pretty much always a good choice for your home. It might take time to gather all the Parisian bathroom accessories you need, but the final design will surely be worth it! 10 ways to achieve elegant decor |
(Image credit: Drummonds / Darren Chung / James Merrell / Fiona Barratt Interiors)
Parisian bathroom decor is undeniably elegant and charming. High ceilings, marble fixtures, ornate moldings, monochromatic color schemes and herringbone parquet are ultra desirable assets for your modern bathroom.
But the Parisian bathroom décor adored by many of us doesn’t require an address on the lofty, grand and sought-after second floor of a Haussmann building. It’s a point proved by Parisian interior decorators living on the higher and less architecturally blessed floors, including the unglamorous attic level, as well as those who dwell in boxier and more modern buildings.
And even if your address is far from the city of light, Parisian bathroom décor can bring easy elegance and a confident, timeless style to your bathroom ideas. Read on to discover the features of Parisian bathroom décor ideas and how to introduce it your bathing space.
Parisian bathroom décor – 10 elegant schemes to inspire
Embrace the best bathroom layout ideas, modern bathroom materials, on-trend bathroom color ideas and mood-boosting lighting to create a contemporary bathroom that will conjure up the elegance and sophistication associated with your favorite Parisian bathroom décor ideas.
1. Invest in five-star luxury
Set the scene for relaxing and rejuvenating in your Parisian bathroom with luxe ideas for five-star pampering. A white-on-white palette is fresh yet sophisticated and, mixed with time-worn antiques, can channel the laid-back chic of an exclusive country spa hotel.
For her own home, White & Faded founder Janet Parrella Van Den Berg layered up the texture – sheepskin, washed linen and old, whitewashed floorboards – to create a crisp white bathroom that’s surprisingly warm and inviting. ‘With a white palette it’s all about how the light falls, the sun shines and the shadows play,’ she explains. ‘White changes through the day and brings details and shapes into focus. It makes me feel uplifted but calm.’
2. Let in light
(Image credit: Drummonds / Darren Chung)
Replacing the ceiling with glass transformed the ambience in interior designer Alison Henry’s home. ‘I felt a sense of liberation when the glass went in and it quickly became my sanctuary,’ she says. ‘Bringing the outdoors in is central to my philosophy, and the ever-changing tree and skyscapes from above are hugely mood-boosting.’ Alison also promotes the use of mirrors. ‘As well as making a room appear more spacious, they also reflect light and amplify the mix of textures to make the room sing.’
3. Embrace vintage
Not often associated with modern bathrooms, antique and vintage storage is worth considering for its uniqueness and capacity to ground a stark space. Choosing time-worn furniture can serve to soften the crisp ‘newness’ of cold sanitaryware and hard surfaces, as demonstrated in this bathroom at Artist Residence .
Antique furniture is often solidly made, too, with many years of varnish or wax ensuring your investment will happily survive several more decades in a well-ventilated bathroom.
4. Invest in mesmerizing marble
New interpretations and luxurious schemes make this metaphoric rock an enduring classic, especially within your small bathroom ideas.
Playing with shape and scale can dial up the impact of marble in a small space. Here, designer Elnaz Namaki has used the same large format slabs on the floor and bath surround, visually boosting the surface area. ‘The smaller format marble tiles share a design language but the change in pace draws the eye inwards and makes the look more memorable,’ she says.
5. Have it built bespoke
(Image credit: Chris Snook / Knight Frank Interiors)
If there is one thing Parisian designers adore, it is bespoke fittings. Built-in storage is streets ahead of freestanding when it comes to making the most of every inch. Commissioning made-to-measure storage is especially worthwhile if you have wonky walls or unusual angles that simply will not accommodate the standard sizes of off-the-shelf furniture.
Built-in storage can also improve the shape of a small bathroom; straightening out awkward corners to create a cleaner, more linear space. Here, Knight Frank Interiors has utilised the narrowest niche for built-in storage that’s designed for both display and hiding away. Adding cornicing and an open plinth mimics the style of a freestanding piece, which can feel more relaxed and authentic in a traditional setting
6. Choose timeless fixtures and fittings
A traditional pedestal-style washstand is utterly timeless and perfect for showcasing a statement wall, like this tile-inspired wallpaper by Pierre Frey. On-trend antique brass adds warmth to this classic ball-jointed frame. Choosing a double vanity with open storage below makes the unit appear lighter and provides opportunity to add some personal touches and texture.
7. Decorate with restful hues
A soothing palette of dusky hues ripple through this spa bathroom, bringing spa-like tranquillity in their wake. The coolness of blue-grey marble is warmed by pink-tinged tadelakt walls, with minimalist brass fittings adding jewel-like richness. While the palette of materials may be restrained, note the subtle texture provided by the tadelakt plaster and herringbone pattern tile installation. The former is a traditional finish typically found in Moroccan hammam baths, and benefits include seamlessness and moisture resistance, making tadelakt a practical choice in the modern bathroom or shower room.
When choosing colors and materials for a wet room, less is more. Here, we deliberately reduced the palette and created a streamlined design to really bring the focus to the materials,’ explains Katie Lion, interior designer, Kitesgrove .
‘Natural marble is a quietly luxurious choice that instils a sense of sophistication and calm in any wet room. Its unique veining can be a simple but impactful way of bringing interest and layers to what is often a smaller space. We chose a brass finish for all the trims and fixtures to pick out the warm tones of the marble striations, helping it feel cohesive, elegant and timeless.’
9. Mix wood and marble for a modern Parisian look
Too much stone can feel cold and sterile – and marble is no exception. In this bathroom, Fiona Barratt Interiors used wooden bathroom paneling ideas to introduce warmth and deaden the echo of hard surfaces. ‘I also like to do marble half-walls with specialist plaster or other textured finishes above. The mix of materials helps break up the monotony of the stone,’ says founder Fiona Barratt-Campbell.
10. Put the focus on the floor
(Image credit: Drummonds / Darren Chung)
Be brave with flooring in Parisian bathroom to create a space that is eye-catching and unforgettable.
Graphic 3D tiles are the height of contemporary design. Their unexpected use in a classic setting creates a welcome element of surprise, as Cuschieri Architects demonstrates here. ‘We used marble tiles to tone in with the more traditional fittings, but the floor still makes a powerful statement,’ says architect Paul Cuschieri.
What is Parisian bathroom décor?
In order for Parisian bathroom décor features to shine, negative space is important. These interiors are airy and uncrowded so focal points have the room to stand out rather than competing with a cluster of other objects.
Rich detail in Parisian bathroom schemes comes from original moldings, decorative plasterwork and ceiling medallions, parquet flooring in geometric patterns, and shapely suspension lighting. Luxury bathroom ideas, often ornate and sizeable in proportions, are also typical of the look.
A white backdrop is also key to the style. Elegant features, furniture and accessories are showcased against walls that are clean and pristine. They also reflect maximum light from the tall windows adding to the airy feel.

Elegant Parisian Bathroom Decor Ideas
For many of us, Paris is all about romance, luxury and refined taste. And if you want elegance, sophistication with a touch of aristocracy, then these Parisian bathroom decor ideas will appeal to you. You will see the most striking examples of the implementation of this complex and sophisticated design in this review and you will be able to take note of the Parisian bathroom decor ideas.
The Parisian style of the bathroom is associated with old luxury design in soft caramel shades. And although in city apartments it will not be possible to recreate the full picture, because, as a rule, the French bathroom has large windows. But you can try to bring the style closer to the ideal.
Parisian style is the perfect combination of sophistication. Vintage combines modern beauty with a timeless elegance that always works. How to create a Parisian space in your bathroom?
Parisian Bathroom Decor Ideas: Color Range
Choose neutral colors and hues, infuse gold decor if you want that timeless French look. Neutrals have many benefits, such as making any space look bigger and airier, which is important for any room. Second, they make a beautiful backdrop for adding furniture and art of any kind. Third, you can easily accentuate and create contrast with neutrals - add dark furniture and art, or opt for classic gilded touches like gilded picture frames or furniture legs, and voila!
Sophisticated Parisian bathroom with mirrored wall, crystal chandelier, bathtub, open shelves and sinkIf you want to create a truly Parisian bathroom, white walls are a critical element. The combination of high ceilings - if you have them - and all-white walls make the space feel light, airy and classic, no matter what else is in the room.
If you want to bring Parisian style to your bathroom, choose black and white, neutrals or maybe beiges and some dark touches. Do not abuse too much dark tones. Add some of them for a contrasting accent. If you prefer softer tones, then choose neutral shades: cream, ivory, ocher and other similar colors.
Plumbing in a Parisian bathroom design
If you want a bold design, a gorgeous clawfoot bathtub is your choice. You can also try a modern oval or other shaped bathtub if you prefer a more modern look. A shower stall is also a good idea, style it in black and white, with a checkered floor, or with some patterns.

Parisian bathroom furniture
Furniture is essential for every bathroom, including a Parisian one. Choose a sophisticated vintage vanity or console table, a stylish side table, and maybe even a few make-up chairs or tables - Parisian means sophistication, your bathroom doesn't have to be just a place to soak.
Mix modern and vintage or classic elements in one space to make your space more sophisticated and French. This way you don't have to combine too many details and you get a modern and chic look at the same time.
A classic element of the Parisian bathroom is decorative stucco, both large and small. They can be included anywhere: coronating walls, above baseboards, around a fireplace, or on the ceiling. The point is to decorate the walls in a neutral way that adds character and doesn't limit the decorating possibilities. Whether or not you use ceiling moldings, a ceiling medallion is the perfect accent piece to highlight another must-have item on the list: chandeliers! The moldings you choose can be straight and streamlined, or more ornate, depending on your personal style.
Parisian bathroom decor ideas
In any case, French style is something exquisitely vintage - we can't imagine even a modern Parisian space without a couple of vintage finds. So feel free to add some vintage elements like art, furniture or a fireplace that can be restored or decorated in a chic way. You don't need a lot: sometimes just one item or a pair is enough to create a great Parisian atmosphere. If you can't buy designer or vintage items, just add furniture that is in that style.
Parisian décor is small but very chic decorations - works of art, sculptures, clocks, etc. In addition, fireplaces, chic mirrors, they can be in decorative or simply elegant gilded frames. Parisian bathroom decor ideas suggest the presence of a beautiful and sophisticated chandelier - it can be vintage or modern. Her choice is entirely up to you, but she should be.
As mentioned above, a sophisticated chandelier is a must for a Parisian chic bathroom, it will not only add a sophisticated look but also balance the room. If the furniture is modern and antique elements are used in the interior, a magnificent vintage-style chandelier will be able to properly decorate the room. If the bathroom is dominated by older pieces of furniture, a more modern chandelier can give the space a French feel.

1. Apartment in Paris
Designer Florence Dostal
On the walls of the bathroom, which designer Florence Dostal designed in her Parisian apartment, floral ornaments are laid out by hand from mirror pieces. The thinker is a Venetian mirror.

2. House in southern England
Designer Robert Kyme
The choice of objects suggests that this is an antique interior: a Venetian mirror, an antique bathtub, a marble washbasin. The solution captivates with authenticity: it’s good when antique interiors are created not from new replicas, but from real ones bought for big money at auction or found at flea markets.

3. House in Morocco
Architects Carl Fournier and Olivier Marty
An excellent reception: the bathroom and bedroom are designed as a passage space, a kind of enfilade in which the bed, fireplace, bath and chandelier are on the same axis. The axial principle is as old as the world, but effective - two fantastic stories turned out here at once: you can watch a burning fire lying in bed and from the bathroom. The selection of textures and coloring is impeccable.

4. House in the suburbs of Chicago
Architect Thomas Rosak
The advantage of this bathroom is a huge window that overlooks the garden. Blinds are appropriate here - with their help you can play with various lighting effects. However, the make-up place cannot be called beautiful: the dressing table is simple, the stool is rude. A free-standing bathtub in this space looks spectacular, but its shape is not very harmonious.

5. Amankora Hotel in Bhutan
Architect Kerry Hill
Solid wood paneling looks great. The solution is very integral, architectural. A room that looks like a wooden box should create a feeling of comfort and tranquility. The only question is the plastic base of the bath: it is technically quite possible to make it from wood.

6. Apartment in Copenhagen
Designer Mikael Andersen
The bathroom here is like an art gallery: antique floorboards and paneled walls are painted in a neutral color, and sculptures, paintings, a designer chandelier are displayed against them. In this row, the bath looks like a work of art.

7. House in London
Architect John Pawson
The sophisticated aesthetic of this bathroom is built on the contrast of old restored interiors and minimalist fixtures. A magnificent combination of white and terracotta colors emphasizes the purity of the design technique. Pawson is characterized by modern interiors, but here he showed an unusually careful attitude to the existing space.

8. House in Idaho
Architect Marwan Al-Sayed
A very expressive architectural solution from the series “in a black and black room” - the image turned out to be both strict and attractive. There are not many elements - a bathtub, a dark glass partition, a niche, but thanks to a clearly consistent color scheme, the shape of each of them is effectively emphasized.

9. House in New York
Designed by Annabelle Zelldorf
There is something Japanese in the style of this bathroom. It is good first of all because it is spacious. But its two parts - with a free-standing bath and a wooden bath - do not fit together well. In addition, the materials - wood and marble - were unsuccessfully selected.

10. House on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts
Ferguson & Shamamian Architects, designed by Victoria Hagan
A French-inspired bathroom with beautiful symmetry. There is no practical need to spread washbasins on different walls, such a composition is a tribute to aesthetics. And the style of the bathroom is good for its versatility: it is appropriate in both a classic house and a modern one.

11. House in Berlin
Architect Jörg Ebers
A very controversial decision in terms of ergonomics: you can lie in this bath, but it's not clear how to get into it. It is also unlikely to get up: you will rest your head on the niche ceiling. Again, how to take a shower? Sitting? After all, there is a bench under the shower diffuser. Such a decision could be justified by a small area, but here we are talking about a house. But the single principle of finishing with small tiles looks beautiful: this architectural technique emphasizes shapes and volumes.

12. House on the island of Salina, Italy
Architect James Cavagnari, designer Erin Quiros
The axial principle again: the bath is placed directly in the bedroom, on the same axis as the bed. The colors are well chosen - the brown beams and old terracotta tiles on the floor go well with the white walls. Confused only by the complete absence of curtains and the proximity of the bath to the balcony. Looks like the window can only be opened by standing in the tub.

13. House in Chantilly, France
Decorator Jean-Louis Deniot
It is immediately clear that this is a French interior, subtle and refined. The burgundy stripe on the painted bath echoes the color of the upholstery of the chairs, the shades of gray on the walls and floor echo the color of the curtains. The main thing here is the ease of choosing things. They were chosen not by the architect, but by the decorator: objects are combined mainly in color, silhouette and texture.

14. California house
Architect Howard Buchan
This bathroom features a view of the desert hills and a beautiful sculpted bathtub carved from a boulder. The disadvantage is that the bath is too close to the window. It has a complex shape, and in order for it to “sound”, it needs space around - like a sculpture that requires a circular walk.
