In our book, mornings are for sipping coffee and soaking yourself under the sun in a poolside lounge chair. Noons are for feasting around a patio dining set with your fam and toasting to whatever. And evenings are for rounding up your friends in bistro chairs playing “spin the bottle” on a coffee table in the open air with a fire pit burning bright. All only possible if you have the luxury of an outdoor space, that is. Luckily, you do, hence you landed on this page, where the 20 best outdoor furniture stores are assembled to inspire your alfresco-living reverie into a somewhat perfect reality.
Whether you want your exterior design style to skew towards English gardens, urban modernity, suburban living, or Californian carefreeness, there's one—and more—outdoor furniture brands below that'll speak to you. From sites that specialize in high-end furniture to one-stop-shop retailers, these outdoor furniture stores will give your patio, backyard, porch, and balcony a well-deserved space-lift.
Frontgate
Frontgate
Shop
Frontgate gives off that big Better Homes & Gardens feels in the best way possible. It's like, I have a pool and I'm going to decorate the hell out of it. (I don't, so I won't, but if I did, it'd be here.) It's great for big spaces and for seating lots of people.
Wayfair
Wayfair
Shop
You know and love Wayfair for its in-home furniture, but its outdoor furniture is just as good—some might say even better. Although there's no shortage of literally anything on the site, it's particularly good for buying outdoor dining sets or anything that has to seat a family gathering on the weekend.
Floyd
Shop
If you hate navigating the pages and pages of clutter that is the world of online shopping, go to Floyd. The brand makes a few things well and curates those styles tightly. The outdoor collection is simple: a table, a chair, a bench, or a set. Everything is made with aluminum (so it's long-lasting) and it comes in four colors.
Lulu & Georgia
Lulu & Georgia
Shop
Lulu & Georgia is for the little bit fancier, great for those who want to elevate their outdoor space. The stuff is a little trendier, as far as outdoor furniture goes. There are a lot of cool fabrics, playful shapes, and a lot of gigantic tables that are dramatic (but in a fun way). It's a vibe.
West Elm
West Elm
Shop
West Elm is also very good for seating families and big groups of people, but with more of an eye toward style. The outdoor stuff is simple, yet beautiful. Lots of water-resistant wood and expandable tables. It's the kind of place you want to shop when you have a big outdoor barbecue coming up, because your guests will leave impressed.
Outer
Shop
Like its name, Outer's furniture is Straightforward. To the point. No reason to be coy about it—the brand only makes stuff for the time you'll spend outside. And behind its coastal charm is a responsible manufacturing process that doesn't come at the detriment of the environment.
Williams Sonoma Home
Williams Sonoma Home
Shop
Williams Sonoma Home has everything you need to turn your outdoor world into a blissful oasis characterized by clean lines, modern shapes, classic sculptures, and all-weather durability. Some pieces look edgy, some look nostalgic, and many are just straight timeless.
Serena & Lily

And just like that, you've become one step closer to owning a Hollywood star's outdoor residential space in Beverly Hills—or one that looks like it—courtesy of Serena & Lily's laissez-faire West Coast aesthetic. Or, mix and match its spirited colors and beach-inspired designs to turn your great outdoor into a Hampton retreat. The brand even has a team of designers who'll help you out for free.
Yardbird
Yardbird
Shop
Leave it to Yardbird to arrange and style a five-star beach-like hotel patio in your own home—as far away from the water as you might be. It's got stuff for outdoor dining, poolside lounging, bistro cocktail-ing, or just for taking in a breath of fresh air. It gets better too, everything from Yardbird is eco-friendly and made from recycled materials. The double threat of both beauty and sustainability is a true winner.
Castlery
Castlery
Shop
Castlery is the place you go to level up your home furniture and decor in timeless styles. It's a little more high-quality than the cheapest stores out there, which means it's also a little pricier. But Castlery generally prices things to match their value. You might spend a little more on its chairs or concrete tables, but they will surely last you longer, too.
Horchow
Horchow
Shop
Shopping at Horchow for outdoor furnishings will spark joy and awe. It's the intersection of elegant silhouettes, art-like prints, and designers. Everything Horchow sells is bound to come in the classiest, swankiest shape, color, and functionality possible. It's the destination for those wanting to class up their pool, patio, backyard, and terrace, all together.
Neighbor
Neighbor
Shop
Count to ten twice, and that's how many pieces Neighbor has in its arsenal—at the time of writing this. But each piece is designed with the upmost finesse in mind. They mostly skew towards beige and black, in teak wood, resilient dyed fabric, and quick drying foam. Bascially, Neighbor's outdoor furniture is what you'll want to brave the fierce tides of the ocean, while looking clean and minimal.
Arhaus
Arhaus
Shop
Arhaus stuff is contemporary luxury through and through. It definitely doesn't have that starter-pack look (which we prefer), and its array of luxe hero items is something you can build on to over time for that villa-living vibe around your pool or in your backyard. The style is modern, but not so modern that it won't easily match whatever else you've got going on outside. Replace your cheaper outdoor furniture one at a time.
Goodee
Goodee
Shop
Goodee has a small, but tight collection of outdoor items that are made by artisans, playful, and design-award-winning-worthy. It's everything that'll make your alfresco space look different from your neighbor's, like a woven tule stool and a Riviera sunbed-coffeetable-bench in one. But it's even better for if you are fitting a small space or just want a standout piece to show off.
Modloft
Modloft
Shop
In the spirit of ethical journalism, we'll give you the caveat about Modloft right now: it's terrifyingly easy to succumb to the desire of styling your indoor dwelling with Modloft's outdoor furniture. It's. Got. The. Shtick. Like the Netta sectionla that looks so irresistible you might as well bring it to your bedroom, or the Volta cocktail table that does the coffee-table chore better than coffee tables. But if you rightfully style them in your patio or backyard, they'll really leave an impression.
Lowe's
Lowe's
Shop
Where you get your home improvement done can also be where you fish out some great outdoor furniture finds. Lowe's, good for stalking, has a crazy big online storefront worth coming to every so often if you're on a slow hunt for good deals. And its specialty in patio heaters, fire pits, and outdoor lighting will probably make your outdoor space look more inviting than indoors.
Overstock
Overstock
Shop
Come to Overstock when you have time to spend scrolling and sales to stalk. You have to do a bit of hunting through pages to find the stuff that you want, but if you've got the patience, it is worth it. There's often hidden gems that pop up of discounted pricey items and whole patio sets on the cheap.
Bed Bath & Beyond
Bed Bath & Beyond
Shop
Bed Bath & Beyond is another outdoor furniture no-brainer. There's a ton of stuff online, of course, but they also tend to have great set-ups in store, if you'd rather check out items in person before you buy them. Come here for the cheaper version of whatever expensive outdoor set you're looking at—and wait for the tried-and-true 20 percent off sales to hit.
Target
Target
Shop
If Target—yes, Target—is not the first place to shop for outdoor stuff on your list, get a new list. Outdoor stuff feels like Target's bread and butter. They have great basic couches and decor, but they also tend to go in on family-friendly items that work double duty, like outdoor storage ottomans.
Amazon
Amazon
Shop
And also, Amazon. Because something that looks as idyllic as this image can also come from Amazon. Its outdoor furniture is not as calm as some of the other shops are but boy, is there a whole lot of stuff. Come here when you need a starter dining or lounge set, when you need something quickly, or when you have no idea what you're doing and just need a damn chair, now.

Which materials used to make furniture are considered safe?
June 13, 2019

More and more often, when choosing furniture for the home, we are looking not only for a beautiful and functional model, but also for an environmentally friendly that will not harm us and our children. The term "environmental" , as a rule, means the absence of harmful substances in the composition of the materials used for production.
Skeptical customers believe that 100% sustainable furniture does not exist. In their opinion, all materials are processed to increase the service life of the final product, so their harmlessness can be questioned. However, this is not a completely correct statement.
Adhesives, paints, varnishes and other components are used in the production of furniture. Since they are all products of the chemical industry, it is generally accepted that they can harm our health. The most dangerous are the adhesives used for the production of furniture from wood-based panels, such as chipboard or fiberboard.
The most safest and environmentally friendly furniture material is solid wood . The most popular species are conifers, oak, beech, ash, walnut, cherry, yew. To give the surface color and water resistance, the wood is coated with special compounds (stains, impregnations). One of the most environmentally friendly varnishes for furniture is water-based or acrylic. It is odorless and therefore ideal for homes with children.
Next on the list is veneer . It is practically not inferior to the array in popularity and environmental friendliness, but at the same time it is much cheaper. This material is created from thin sheets of wood, so it retains the texture of wood. Veneer can also be used to create plywood.
MDF (fine fraction) is considered an environmentally friendly material. It is created by pressing very small wood shavings. The binding element is lignin, a substance that wood releases when heated, or resins with a low content of formaldehyde. All modern materials have an E1 emission class, so they are classified as environmentally friendly. MDF furniture is not covered with mold and other types of fungus, therefore it is suitable for children's rooms. MDF is durable and wear-resistant, it can be washed with cleaning products.
Leader in the number of harmful substances - Chipboard (particle board). This material contains phenol-formaldehyde and urea-formaldehyde resins, which ensure the strength of the finished furniture. It can release formaldehyde, a colorless gas dangerous to health, officially recognized as a carcinogen and capable of provoking cancer. The intensity of formaldehyde release is affected by the temperature and humidity of the room: the warmer, the greater the content of formaldehyde in the air. Therefore, all chipboard products are pasted over with a protective film or veneer. Now chipboard is being replaced by other, more harmless modern compositions and materials.
Plastic furniture can also be called environmentally friendly: it is light, strong and durable at the same time. However, it is worth clarifying exactly how the type of plastic was used in the production: polyvinyl chloride (PVC) releases carcinogens into the air when burned or heated; polypropylene (PP) is considered safer than PVC and is used in outdoor furniture; polycarbonate is more expensive, but is durable; acrylic does not contain toxic elements in its composition, does not have an unpleasant odor, does not cause allergies. At the same time, plastic furniture attracts dust, and plastic surfaces can act as sources of static electricity.
In addition to the frame, other materials are also important: for upholstered furniture it is upholstery and fillers, for beds it is the constituent elements of the mattress . Here, too, the championship in environmental friendliness is held by natural materials, but some of them can cause allergies. In addition, the production of artificial materials is constantly being improved, new components that are safe for humans are being developed.
The furniture industry uses organic soy, silk, linen, bamboo, cotton to produce textiles for upholstery. Artificial additives are often added to natural raw materials that increase the abrasion, strength and durability of natural components. For the production of eco-friendly bed mattresses, cactus coir, cherry pits, wool, soy, horsehair, felt, coconut fiber, etc. are used as fillers.
The main principle behind the use of non-natural materials in furniture is their lack of toxicity. For example, this applies to polyurethane foam , often used in the manufacture of sofas - it is completely harmless to human health.
How to check the sustainability?
It is not enough just to know what raw material the furniture is made of, the quality must be confirmed by the corresponding certificates . Conscientious sellers who value their reputation and their customers themselves offer to familiarize themselves with the documents, because this is the best proof that the product meets the requirements of the state for its quality. Furniture must not only be certified, but also comply with GOST 19917-93, otherwise it is not even necessary to talk about the environmental friendliness parameter of items for home interiors.
Be sure to study this information at the stands in the salons, on the websites of online stores, and check with managers for details that will help you make the right choice when buying.
