Orange living room decor communicates fun, confidence, and warmth. Whilst it brings so many positive feelings, it can be tricky to imagine an orange interior that isn’t too overwhelming, loud, or unintentionally kitsch. But be brave. There are many ways to enjoy an orange-infused aesthetic. A single bright orange feature wall can bring a zingy aspect to the room, while a more muted shade of orange builds a comforting, cozy look. A bold orange couch or statement chair makes the conversation area the main attraction. This contemporary living room does away with neutral palettes and injects a sense of fun by using vibrant contrasting colors of orange, black, terra cotta, green, pink and grey. As well as adding patterns which are not usually lumped in together like diagonals, uneven dots, and herringbone ties the room together.
This spacious open terra cotta orange living room merges the Victorian with a contemporary theme. The vintage chandelier, intricately patterned fireplace, stone floors, wrought iron corner tables, vases, antique rug, and candelabra gives off the vibes from a bygone era, while the cozy all-white sofa, fluffed-up pillows, and polished wood center table are truly inviting.
Selecting orange as a dominant color in your living room may seem a little bold, and maybe even a little tacky if you think of the use of orange in living rooms in the 1970s. Today, the color orange and all of its different shades look attractive and inviting in all styles of living rooms.
Out of the 552,888 living rooms and 14 colors analyzed, 1.76 percent (or 9,747) have orange as the dominant color.
Choosing Orange as Your Dominant Design Color
If you’re a fan of Eclectic or Contemporary Design, the color orange is a great choice. Although the color orange can mean different things to different people, in general, orange represents energy, balance, warmth, vitality, and enthusiasm.
Even though orange is often considered “youthful and adventurous,” as you browse our gallery of Orange Living Rooms, you will notice that many of the living room designs are Traditional or Country. Whichever living room design you prefer, a shade of orange can look attractive and inviting.
Accenting With Orange
Painting your living room orange can be a little bit of a visual overload for some but if you still want to incorporate an orange hue start with some accents. Arranging orange pillows, of various patterns, on your neutral colored couch can be a great starting point.
You can also make orange a focal point by showcasing an orange rug in the center of the room or a large, circular ottoman in a shade of the warm hue.
Choosing the Right Shade of Orange
If orange isn’t typically your “go to” color, you may forget or not even realize that there are shades of orange beyond that of an orange or pumpkin. Even if you’re not a self-proclaimed fan of the color orange, you may surprise yourself when you browse all the different shades.
While a carrot orange shade may not feel like color suitable for your living room, you might feel more at home with a shade of Bittersweet or even Coral.
Incorporating Other Colors
If you want to make orange a dominant color in your living room, you may want to balance it out with other colors that work well with orange. For example, gray, brown, and olive look best with a light-orange will cherry or a pale yellow can look great with a dark orange. Blue, lilac, and cyan look striking with a shade of classic orange.
More Orange Living Room Ideas
In my opinion, the best way to incorporate orange into your living room is to use only a little. For example:
- An orange accent wall;
- An orange sofa;
- A couple of orange chairs;
- Orange throw pillows;
- Orange sofa blanket (see above – very nice)
- Orange decor elements such as vases, rug, art, etc.
While some of the examples below overdo it, you can use them all to learn what you like and don’t like about orange color schemes.
This living room is brightened by both the daylight and the wall painted in bright orange. The paintings leaning on the wall and the armchair also give a bit of orange to the room, as do the large orange art books on the center table and the patterned throw pillows on the sofa set.

The orange here is so bright that it looks like this room exploded with the striking color scheme. The sofa set and stools, lampshades and floor rug are all orange, but they’re matching and cool. A little extra touch of the same color is provided by the flower vases and blossoms.
Incorporating a little orange into the living room can give a nice and sleek contrast to an off-white or pure white color scheme. The furry rug on the wooden floor, a couple of shelves, the corner wall and the throw pillows are in shades of orange, and they look great. Of course, the focal point is the matching orange decorative accents on the center table: the flower vase and the candles.
The exposed wood beams on the ceiling would normally be the attention catchers here, but not with the wall and ceiling painted in bright orange! The wall paintings, floor rug, and the hanging pendant lights creatively decorated with artsy covers all have accents of orange too. And did you notice the orange-striped wooden desk camouflaged against the wall?

Relax on this soft, comfortable orange sofa set with daybed. Their orange covering is actually quite attractive and stylish, even though not everyone would dare to add orange furniture to their living room. The design is balanced with a large orange centerpiece dish and a floor rug with some orange patterns.
This orange sofa set sits comfortably in an open concept interior right next to the kitchen, where there’s a matching tray of fruit. Over toward the windows are orange bird of paradise flowers.
The bright orange leather sofa set in this living room is quite stunning and bright alongside the yellow armchair, center table and wall.

Some orange yellow throw pillows add a bright contrast to a warm toned interior. A few pendant lights, paintings and a floor rug supplement the orange accents in this simple yet fabulous looking living room. The silhouette curtains are in light orange too.
The fancy leather chairs and throw pillows in orange are stunning against the white background. The orange accented white floor rug displays a matching color scheme on the floor. The decorations on the center table, as well as the blossoms and twigs in the corners, are also orange.
Aside from the orange accents in the living area, the dining area behind it stuns with a chic and stylish orange pendant light and an orange dining set on the dining table.
What looks more stunning in orange – the colorful and striking artwork on the brick stone fireplace or the leather sofa set? These two pieces highlight the room and give it a lively tone. The bright daylight coming from the glass wall helps a lot to keep the living room well lit.
Source: Wayfair
The slick orange wall and sofa stool stand out boldly in this living area. A few throw pillows are orange too, but they blend in with the red colors from the patterned floor rug, throw pillows and artwork. Daylight coming from the open blinds makes the whole place gleam.
Orange looks very attractive when paired with green, doesn’t it? Take a look at the orange wall with the leaning frame of green shaded artwork, the green palms, and the throw pillows. They are all quite lively. The grey tone allows the bright colors to stand out, especially on the ceiling with the orange centerpiece and green pendant light. Let’s give credit to the orange blossoms in the grey vase too!
Name all the orange things in this image. Well, let’s start it with the pair of orange armchairs, the orange tray on top of the ottoman, the orange patterns on the bolster pillow, and some orange accents on the artwork hanging on the wall. These bright colored items seem to highlight what could otherwise be a gloomy living room and give it a cheerful atmosphere.

Orange never fails to give life to a dim and lonely living room. The wall in bright and cheerful orange is supported with the orange throw pillows and orange cloth resting on the sofa.
The bright sofa and throw pillows seem so emphasized and highlighted that you might think this was edited in Photoshop. However, nothing has been altered here! It is just the pure power of design and color choice. The designer has done a great job of choosing an orange sofa set along with accented throw pillows and orange tulip blossoms as the centerpiece.
The orange leather sofa is the glamour in the spotlight of this living room. A few touches of orange can also be found on the conversation pieces atop the glass center table, like the orange tray and orange plated crown.
Source: Wayfair
The orange patterns in different palettes on the accent wall playfully juxtapose light to dark shades of orange arranged in tiny squares. The geometrical sense of this orange design also works perfectly with the sofa set, while the orange floor lamp shows off its own shade.
This is a stunning contemporary design with plain and simple surfaces and forms. Bright daylight from a large glass door strikes the orange sofa set and orange patterned floor rug on the wood parquet flooring.
A variety of orange touches and shades are found in here. Artsy orange shades in the painting, light orange on the floor rug, orange cloth on the leather seat, and some orange throw pillows all go together in this slightly rustic and old fashioned living room. They obviously light up the room.
Source: Wayfair
The simple orange background wall, a few books stacked as a centerpiece, and the fireplace panel decor are enough to brighten up this living room’s otherwise monotonous color scheme.
Source: Wayfair
The delicate color selection of this living room departs from common living room color schemes by incorporating orange. The center ottoman mounted with a chess board and oversized pieces, the vase, window bench, firewood holder and the artwork are all eye catching.
Source: Wayfair
When you look at this, the first things to pop out as attractive are the ones in bright colors – especially the bright pair of armchairs and the red throw pillows opposite. Their looks are particularly emphasized in contrast with the grey.

Living room in orange tones. Color psychology
The living room is the heart of any home. The whole family gathers here, guests are received, various celebrations are held. According to this room, visitors will evaluate your taste, so it must certainly be unusual and stylish. Every day you will gather in it with the whole family for joint leisure, watching TV or just talking. nine0003
An orange living room is a bold decision for extraordinary people. This juicy color, saturated with solar energy, will bring cheerfulness and joyful mood into your life. This option is perfect for an active friendly family that is always on the move. Psychologists say that shades of orange increase sociability and set up a team spirit. This color brings out depression and gives a feeling of freedom.
The interior of an orange living room is also perfect for meeting guests - the color of a ripe orange will contribute to a lively conversation. All shades of orange will perfectly fit into the kitchen-living room, because they increase appetite. It is worth noting that if there are overweight people in your family, it is better to refuse such a color scheme. But feeding small children in the kitchen-living room with orange wallpaper or pieces of furniture will be much easier. nine0003
However, do not forget about the sense of proportion. An excess of bright neon colors can negatively affect the well-being of your household, but a living room designed in orange pastel colors (peach, powder, etc.) has the right to exist. If you still prefer a pure color, use it in the form of additional details. A few orange pillows, a throw on the sofa or an unusual painting with pure colors will give your living room design a personality and unique charm. nine0003
Since, in most cases, orange tones are used as an additional accent in the interior, let's look at which colors are most successfully combined with it.
White | It harmonizes perfectly with almost all shades and perfectly emphasizes the brightness and expressiveness of orange. This neighborhood is used mainly for interiors made in a modern style. nine0003 |
Yellow | A duet of carrot and yellow will always be associated with the autumn season. It will give the room comfort and warmth. |
Green | The combination of orange and green will allow you to make your living room light and fresh. The main thing is to choose the right shades, and take a neutral color as a basis, for example, beige. Too dark tones in such a duet will make the room gloomy and uncomfortable. nine0003 |
Brown | A conglomerate of orange color with chocolate looks harmonious and “tasty”. This decor is perfect for a living room, designed in a classic direction. |
Blue | This unusual and bold combination will look great in the interior of the room in the "Moroccan" style. Such a non-standard solution will allow you to create an organic and balanced design, in which you will feel cheerful enough, but not tense. nine0003 |
Gray | Gray is a great complement to juicy shades of orange. Well suited for living rooms combined with bedrooms. |
As we noted above, this color is great for the living room. However, creating an interior with its use is fraught with a number of difficulties. Let's look at the main features of using orange in the design of an apartment or a private house: nine0003
- Do not base the decor of the room on orange, if it is too hot in the warm season. Any shade of this color will enhance the feeling of stuffiness.
- It would also be inappropriate to use shades of juicy orange in a room with a lot of natural light. Sunlight will "eat up" the brightness of the colors.
- Be attentive to the configuration of your living room. It is not recommended to use this color for wall decoration in narrow rooms. It will only emphasize the unfortunate shape of the room. nine0086
- If you still decide on a bright finish on large surfaces (orange wallpaper in the living room, floor or ceiling), choose a neutral color for the furniture (white, beige, brown or gray).
- When using orange colored accessories, distribute them evenly throughout the room.
In the branded salons of the furniture studio Mr. Doors will always be able to help you with the proper organization of space in the orange (and not only) living room. nine0003

Orange color in the interior - combinations, options for use, photo
Bright orange color will refresh the look of the living room, make the atmosphere of the room warm and even sunny.
The orange color in the interior is equally well combined with related warm tones and cold ones. It plays the role of the main bright accent in the decoration, so on a warm background it will add color to the interior and make it more harmonious. And on the cold it will be interesting to contrast and stand out. nine0003
We show the most popular combinations with orange in the interior of the living room.
Orange & White
When there is a white or gray finish in a room, orange, like any other color, stands out the brightest. It can be used in the form of coloring furniture, individual textiles or decor. And if you don’t want too much concentration of bright color, minimize the orange elements - for example, hang orange curtains in the interior, leave the rest of the design white. The living room will retain a neutral look and at the same time acquire an original bright accent. nine0003
You can also do the opposite: paint all the walls orange, and against this background place snow-white or gray furniture. This design of the living room will be more saturated and colorful, the atmosphere will turn from calm to cheerful and energetic.
Orange with green
These two colors always harmonize beautifully with each other, symbolizing naturalness and naturalness: green is responsible for vegetation, orange for sunlight. For a smoother transition between tones, you can add a little yellow to the living room - in the form of a section of the wall or small pillows. nine0003
If you use colors in large quantities, such an interior will always be colorful and colorful, regardless of whether you put an orange sofa in the interior against a green wall or vice versa. In order to reduce the overall variegation, it is better to include white in the design - it perfectly smooths out bright combinations.
Orange with brown and beige
All three colors are related, only different levels of brightness and saturation. So beige sofas, brown cabinets and orange walls in the interior of the living room will create a very beautiful and harmonious combination. It will be bright, but at the same time remain restrained and will not ripple with contrasts. nine0003
Due to the neutral colors (beige and brown) in this design, many natural materials or their imitations can be used. For example, brown cabinets can be made of wood, and beige can be incorporated into the interior with masonry walls and light-colored wicker chairs.
Orange with blue
Orange in the company of blue or light blue will help create an unobtrusive and light look of the living room - moderately bright and moderately calm. It is better to use more blue in this combination, and use motley orange on furniture and as separate elements. Otherwise, blue, which is present in the room in too small quantities, may be lost against a bright background. nine0003
To make the interior even lighter and calmer, add white again - as in the last photo. It will enhance the related blue color and make its proximity to orange more harmonious.
