The Obama house is certainly something to behold.

Former President Barack Obama and his family have completed the purchase of a $11.75 million waterfront house situated on nearly 30 acres on Martha's Vineyard – an affluent island located south of Cape Cod in Massachusetts. And it is stunning.

The expansive 6,892-square-foot house sits on nearly 30 secluded acres fronting the Edgartown Great Pond between Slough Cove and Turkeyland Cove, with views of the Atlantic ocean.

Designed by Taylor Lombardo Architects in San Francisco, the home was built in 2001 by John Early, a well-known and hugely trusted Island contractor. And it's in a spot the Obamas love – it's no secret that they have enjoyed spending down time at Martha's Vineyard whenever they can.

In fact, Martha's Vineyard has been an annual holiday spot for the Obama family since their time in the White House, and now they're putting down roots in the gorgeous villa that they rented over the summer.

The home features seven bedrooms, eight and a half baths and several stone fireplaces. There is a two-car garage, a detached barn and a pool.

The property also offers direct access to the pond, and includes a boat house and a private beach front with deeded rights, as per the listing on LandVest.

Rumors of the impending sale have been circulating since late summer 2019, when the Obamas rented the property for several weeks. The family are often seen on the Vineyard during summer vacation.

The area has been popular with vacationing celebrities and politicians for many decades – Presidents Clinton and Kennedy both spent the holidays here with their families. However, this is the first time a former President has bought a home on the island.

Barack & Michelle Obama Martha's Vineyard Mansion, House Details, Photos, Price

Update, August 4, 2021: After a media storm erupted this week over former President Barack Obama's plans to host a huge 60th birthday party at his Martha's Vineyard estate, he has abruptly canceled the event, which was to take place this Saturday. “Due to the new spread of the Delta variant over the past week, the President and Mrs. Obama have decided to significantly scale back the event to include only family and close friends,” his spokesperson Hannah Hankins said in a statement. “He’s appreciative of others sending their birthday wishes from afar and looks forward to seeing people soon.” According to the New York Times, a number of high profile guests on the 475-person list, which included donors, administration officials, and celebrities, were already en route to Martha's Vineyard. Although the Obamas took some heat this week for planning such a massive gathering in the midst of a pandemic, David Axelrod, the former senior advisor to the president, told the newspaper that the power couple had been concerned about the virus from the beginning and keen on taking all the necessary precautions, such as requiring vaccinations and a pre-party Covid test. "“But when this was planned, the situation was quite different. So they responded to the changing circumstances," he said.

Update, August 3, 2021: It was revealed earlier this week that former President Barack Obama is planning on throwing a blowout birthday party at his and Michelle's sprawling Martha's Vineyard estate this weekend—he turns 60 on August 4. There will reportedly be nearly 700 people in attendance, including a guest list of 475 (Oprah, Steven Spielberg, and George Clooney rumored among them) and a staff of 200. Though the fete will be outdoors and everyone will have to be vaccinated, the event has inevitably drawn controversy, especially with the alarming rise of the Delta variant and ever-changing guidelines issued by the CDC. But with 29.3 acres of pristine waterfront real estate, space—and social distancing—may not be much of an issue.

In light of this news, we're resurfacing this story from December 2019, which goes into more detail on the Obamas' Martha's Vineyard property.

It's no secret that Michelle and Barack Obama enjoy spending down time at Martha's Vineyard, a quaint Massachusetts island that everyone from the Kennedys to the Clintons has visited. It's been an annual vacation destination for the Obama family since their time in the White House, but now they're putting down roots with the purchase of a gorgeous mansion that they rented over the summer.

According to People, the 6,892-square-foot Martha's Vineyard estate was sold on Wednesday for $11.75 million to a trust. James F. Reynolds, a longtime friend of Barack Obama who also served as a member of his national finance committee during the 2008 presidential election, is named as a trustee on the deed.

The Obamas reportedly purchased the property from Wycliffe Grousbeck, owner of the Boston Celtics, and his ex-wife, Corinne Basler Grousbeck, who bought the home in 1998. The property has been on the market since 2015.

It also boasts an elegant master suite complete with a fireplace, as well as two guest wings, a two-car garage, a sun deck, boathouse, and a pool.

With these standout features, there is no doubt that Barack and Michelle Obama, along with their children, Sasha and Malia, will continue to enjoy memorable stays on Martha's Vineyard for years to come.

Barack Obama's new house

In a little more than half a year, the residence of American presidents - the White House - will have a new owner or mistress ... And this means that the current US President Barack Obama will have to transport everything acquired over the past eight years to a new house. Recently, the "first family" announced that they planned to stay in Washington, and then photos of the house where they plan to move appeared in the media. The street where the president will settle will be blocked for traffic and will be heavily guarded. However, now it is still possible to get to the future Obama's house without obstacles. Our colleague from the Ukrainian Service visited the future home of the presidential family. As it turned out, Obama is not the first US president to settle in this area of Washington. nine0003

“From a commander-in-chief to a couch commander… What am I going to do in Washington for two years?” the US President asks the viewer.

In this funny video, Barack Obama laments that he doesn't know what to do after his presidential term expires. He tries on different roles and even thinks about whether he should become a sports coach. In fact, even before filming the comic sketches, Obama had already taken care of the practical side of the issue, and found a new home for the family. nine0003

After the end of his presidential term, Barack Obama will move into this beautiful house, which is valued at six million dollars. Monthly rent - 22 thousand dollars.

The Obama family, which has a home in Chicago, explained their desire to stay in Washington by saying that their daughter Sasha should finish her schooling in peace.

The new house has eight rooms, nine bathrooms, a marble living room and a small courtyard. Historian Steven Hansen has been studying this area, Kalorama, for more than two decades. nine0003

“This house was the product of a building boom on the eve of the Great Depression,” he says. – At the beginning of the 20th century, the whole area was built up very quickly. Many of these houses were built with speculation money. The house was built in 1928 by architect John Vilanova. But the developer was not able to sell it immediately, until Captain Madox, who was an important figure in the American Navy, settled here in the 30s.

The Kalorama area is considered to be extremely prestigious and safe today - there is perhaps the largest concentration of embassies and residences of ambassadors and officials in Washington, and, possibly, in the world. He is under the supervision of the security services and the police. nine0003

“I think the people who live in the area would really like Obama's idea of moving here,” says Steven Hansen. - Everyone understands that traffic on these streets will be stopped, and the streets themselves will be completely blocked. That is, this area will become even safer. And since it will be heavily protected, it is likely that the value of the surrounding houses will also increase markedly.”

In the history of the United States, Obama will become the second president who decided to stay in the capital immediately after the end of his presidential term. The first was Woodrow Wilson. It is noteworthy that Wilson lived in the same area. By the way, Wilson had no money not to buy a house...

“In December 1920, this house cost $150,000,” says Robert Enholm, head of the Wilson House Museum. - And Wilson only had 50 thousand dollars, which he received as a Nobel Peace Prize winner ... He had to apply to ten friends for a loan, and each of them lent him 10 thousand dollars. The president's widow, Edith, donated the house to the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Specialists tried to restore everything the way it looked during the life of the president.” nine0003

The director of the museum notes that although the era of Wilson is long gone, he has done a lot for the modern world. Woodrow Wilson became the "father" of the League of Nations, which served as the prototype of the UN, and it was he - like none of his predecessors - who strengthened the institution of the presidency in the United States.

"Wilson stayed in Washington to stay in politics, and I'm more than confident that President Obama will, too," says Robert Anholm.

The director of the museum hopes that Barack Obama will continue to actively participate in the affairs of the American capital and national politics, which means that he will have to forget about the career of a sports coach ...

Former President of the United States purchased a three-story mansion, which he previously occupied as a tenant

Former United States President Barack Obama bought a house in Washington DC for $8. 1 million, local newspaper The Washington Post reports. We are talking about a three-story mansion in which the Obama family has been living since the beginning of the year. From January to May, the ex-president rented this house, but now he decided to buy it out, the article says.

The mansion is located in the Kalorama district of Washington, the most prestigious quarter of the American capital. Ivanka Trump, the daughter of current President Donald Trump, and Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, live in the same area. The Obama House was ranked second in value among all Kalorama properties, according to The Washington Post. First place retains the $23 million Bezos mansion, the publication says. nine0003

Obama needed a house in Washington because his youngest daughter Sasha studies here at the local school. “Given that Mr. and Mrs. Obama will be living in Washington for at least another two and a half years, they decided that it made sense for them to buy a house instead of renting it [all this time],” The Washington Post quoted a press source as saying.
