Best Spa Bathroom Ideas - Essentials for a Spa-Like Bath
Nickolas Sargent (Sargent Photography)
1
Set the Mood
Photography by Julie Soefer; design by Chandos Dodson Epley.
One of the first steps in the design of any room is figuring out the room's function and feel. Houston-based designer Chandos Dodson Epley calls this "setting a mood," rather than a theme or color story, as even the most vivacious shades can feel rejuvenating when paired with the right furnishings and fixtures. Think about the key features you adore while attending the spa and how you could emulate them within your own home. Once you've got a list in mind, you can begin working with a designer to figure out what is feasible in your space.
2
Invest in High-Quality Materials
Nicole Franzen
Not every bathroom needs a complete gut renovation to reach a tranquil status. Sometimes, it comes down to simply swapping out tub fixtures that have lost their luster or replacing dated flooring tiles. Investing in high-quality materials such as cutting-edge stone countertops for the vanity or a wood soaking tub can immediately elevate the room into feeling like it's a new space.
Crisp white marble has ruled as the go-to bathroom material for years. However, designers are starting to reach for bolder flooring and natural stones with wooden accents as a way to connect the space with nature. Playing with natural materials and richer finishes in the bathroom helps give it a sense of timelessness and warmth.
3
Think Tonally
Nickolas Sargent (Sargent Photography)
San Fransico-based designer Heather Hilliard often encourages clients to leave the bright colors and crazy patterns for the powder room as those tend to feel "activating rather than calming." Instead, the decorator recommends sticking to a tonal color palette of neutrals, blues, and greens. The key is to play with different hues within a color family to add enough interest, so people want to linger and relax within the bathroom. Subtle floral patterns can also help usher in the restorative power of nature without feeling too overwhelming or distracting.
4
Incorporate Some High-Tech Additions
Douglas Friedman
When it comes to upgrading the hardware and appliances, don't be afraid to incorporate smart home technology into your bathroom. "Details like medicine cabinets with refrigeration for eye cream, bathtubs that keep a constant temperature, and a fog-free shaving mirror in the shower [turn] any bathroom into a spa experience," explains Epley. "It’s not just a rain shower head and steam unit anymore—you can have it all."
Hilliard adds that water-resistant speakers are another nice touch, since they can easily help set the mood with serene sounds or music. Many brands even have options in neutral or muted shades to easily blend in with your peaceful space.
5
Purchase Splurge-Worthy Linens
Alison Gootee
Upgrading your bath linens may not be the first thing that comes to mind, but it should be. Plus, a curated set of linens can serve as an unexpected decorating tool, adding a textural yet cozy layer to the bath. Both Epley and Hilliard agree Matouk makes some of the best robes and towels. For linens that can be personalized, our editors adore Leontine Linens and Peacock Alley.
6
Hang Some Airy Curtains
Annie Schlechter
Floor-to-ceiling curtains in a Larsen fabric add an air of spa-like elegance as part of the white and bright color scheme in this marble-clad space. The wall-height windows light up the space designed by Carolyn Malone with natural light, while a statement-making Artemide chandelier fills with luminescence by night.

Lisa Romerein

MAX KIM-BEE
An archway in the wall emphasizes that the bath, with fittings by LeFroy Brooks, is the centerpiece of this room. A vaulted ceiling and a statement-making chandelier further accent this soaking tub. Fresh flowers also add to the spa-like feel of the space designed by Colette Van Den Thillart.
10
Install a Luxurious Rain Shower Head
BJORN WALLANDER
With a large rain shower head like this one, water will fall like rain on your head for a gentler, more spa-like shower experience. Here, the shower head only enhances the natural feel of this earthy space and makes you want to hop in and warm up after spending time outside on a winter day. This airy guest bathroom designed by Philip Mitchell shows that function and beauty can certainly coexist. Plus, we think every guest deserves to soak in a claw-foot tub in an arched nook.
17
Decorate with Cohesive Canisters
J. SAVAGE GIBSON
For a harmonic look, pour your bath-side essentials into coordinating glass canisters. It makes a nice finishing touch to this room’s flamingo-patterned Sanderson wallpaper and the tropical setting around it designed by Phoebe Howard. The tub is by Waterworks and the pendant by Hudson Valley Lighting.
18

WILLIAM ABRANOWICZ

19
Perch a Tray on Your Tub
Robert Passal
Set a clear acrylic tray (like this one) over your tub for easy access to your loofah, book, and fresh florals. This spa-like space designed by Robert Passal features handcrafted, pearl-like lighting by Canadian designer Larose Guyon.
20
Don't Forget the Spa-Like Bath Salts
FRANCESCO LAGNESE
No spa is complete without its treatments, so splurge on bath salts and set them on a stool where you can reach them from the tub. This rusted tub features bath fittings by Van Dyke’s and sits under a photograph by Bert Teunissen. The space was designed by Shawn Henderson.
21
Try Some Unique Towel Racks
M.K. SADLER
There’s no need to follow convention for towel racks when you can get more imaginative with their design. This one echoes the mirror beside it and has a similar feel to the lighting by Apparatus. With Shirlene Brooks’s design, natural light also spills into this space from an open-air courtyard that connects this beach house primary bedroom and bathroom.

How to create a SPA atmosphere in the bathroom? — INMYROOM
Interior decor
Together with designer Evgenia Matveenko we tell how to turn a standard bathroom into a room for rest and relaxation
Is it possible to create a SPA atmosphere at home? Yes! We asked the pros how to do it.
Evgenia Matveenko
Designer

Inspiration: idea for decoration
The bathroom is a place where we can disconnect from business and worries and devote time only to ourselves. The interior should be conducive to this. The desired effect can be achieved with the help of natural materials, color harmony, and a well-thought-out lighting scenario. And it is important not to forget about the details. For example, put live plants, special baskets, containers and other useful and beautiful decor.
Modern bathroom style means:
quality materials
It is important to choose durable finishing materials and sanitary ware
functional details
Be sure to consider lighting, layout and furniture placement
discreet color scheme
Use live plants and stylish decor for contrast
Getting started: creating a moodboard
what we want to achieve. To feel the atmosphere, choose the right colors and see their combination with each other, I make a moodboard.
In our case, it is a modern style, so I chose natural colors and textures. White and beige, shades of gray and brown - this is what we take as a basis. And to dilute the neutral interior, add green shades. Natural colors are always relevant, and these colors are easy to combine with each other.
Moodboard with goods from the Leroy Merlin store
Let's move on to the implementation
To realize our plans, you need to choose finishing materials, plumbing, lighting and do not forget about the decor. Everything you need at once can be found at Leroy Merlin.
The protagonist of any bathroom is the bathtub itself. Only a stand-alone model fits into our concept. It reminds of the atmosphere of expensive hotels and their spa rooms
Green plants are the main accent of our bathroom. In addition, they maintain an atmosphere of nature and purity. We chose dracaena, an unpretentious tree in care that will get along well even in a damp and dark bathroom
A freestanding bathtub needs the same faucet, with faucet and shower hose
Little things like a soap dispenser need to match the style. Colorful bottles of household chemicals will spoil the interior, so don't forget about accessories
Don't forget the mat
to avoid slipping on smooth floor tiles. And storage. It is easy to hide in baskets such important but ugly little things as toilet paper rolls or, for example, stocks of household chemicals

How to create a spa atmosphere in the bathroom: Six more design hacks
Big beautiful bath-what exactly cannot be saved on. It should be comfortable and pleasant, otherwise you will not be able to relax.
Laundry baskets help keep things organized and can be matched in color and material to blinds, rugs or other furniture.
Decor - beautiful storage containers, soft towels matched to the tone - complement the interior of the bathroom.
Candles and directional lights are needed to not irritate the eyes and completely relax. And if you choose candles with your favorite scent, the SPA atmosphere will definitely be complete.
Plants are responsible for the freshness of the air and the natural atmosphere. Set aside a shelf in the bathroom for them, or maybe more than one.
The harmony of color contributes to the harmony of the senses. Choose a neutral color palette, but don't forget to add contrasts.
Arranging furniture and decor
I was inspired by hotel interiors with their impeccable approach to style. In hotel bathrooms, designers often opt for free-standing bathtubs by the window or even floor-to-ceiling windows.
I took the same principle as a basis and began to arrange furniture from the window. Together with a bathtub and a beautiful faucet, it will be the center of the composition. Then, taking into account the rules of ergonomics, I arranged the rest of the furniture and plumbing. And two sinks are a convenient solution for a large family.

Interior decor
Do you have a spa at home? Easily! To do this, you just need to properly equip the bathroom. We'll give you some ideas for creating a small home spa bedroom
In our hectic times, so I want to find more time for myself! It is the bathroom being considered by many as a place to retire, relax and take time to care about your own beauty and comfort. Therefore, the design of the bathroom should be functional, and organize the space of this room in accordance with the principles of the spa, adding elements that will help you relax not only your body, but also your eyes, to put all worries out of your head. We will prompt some ideas for creating a small home spa.
1. Ideal bathtub
Bathroom center, Definitely the bath itself. Great option for relaxing water procedures will be an elegant “antique” bath: you can choose a thin cast-iron bath - it has a high heat capacity and looks very elegant. Even better bathrooms made of artificial stone retain heat, but this is not the cheapest option.
Spa tubs are also referred to as whirlpool tubs, with the deeper and the more it will be, the better. Don't Forget Bathroom Curtains - They're Not Only decorate, but also guarantee privacy.
2. Rain shower
he can arrange spa treatments. By hanging the shower over your head, you will ensure a wonderful full body massage. Consider a hydromassage shower cabin or hydromassage jets built directly into the wall. Arrange the shower space can also be equipped with the greatest comfort, for example, seating area. And, finally, for lovers of everything unusual, not accustomed to save on yourself, you can recommend a horizontal shower, which is taken lying down is a great way to relax!
3. Natural elements
Draw inspiration from nature. Elements such as stone, slate and wood will help you relax and rest your eyes. This applies to both walls and floors (refer to attention to chic tinted wood floors or exquisite marble tiles) and the ceiling, and even a cabinet under the sink. All this natural splendor It will look especially good with plumbing fixtures in neutral colors. Shells and, no matter how strange it may sound, stones can serve as a great accessory.
4. More nature
Contemplation of nature gives us peace of mind. You can decorate the bathroom with houseplants, but problematic: our urban bathrooms lack light and poor ventilation. But there are other options as well. A splash of green will dilute the space even the smallest bathroom: bright green towels, “nature-like” photo wallpapers or green tiles of one accent wall - all this will give freshness and harmony.
5. Smart storage
Of course for spa treatments numerous "helpers" are required: salts, oils, scrubs. Keep it all best in streamlined transparent vessels, because their simplicity and elegance help to maintain an atmosphere of calm and order. For bigger things open shelves are well suited - under a tree or matte shades. Wicker storage baskets will look logical in a natural spa interior.
