Pop the confetti: it's color of the year season. It's the moment we get a sneak peek into how color will shape all of our homes over the next 365 days and beyond. The most recent to drop are Valspar's meticulously chosen colors. Like previous years, instead of nominating just one shade to carry all of interior design's trends on its back, Valspar has named 12 unique swatches as their 2023 colors of the year.

Valspar's 2023 Colors of the Year

These dozen shades and hues weren't pulled at random, each one was purposefully picked. Sue Kim, Valspar color marketing manager, notes that all of them tie back to how often we look to nature for comfort and respite. "We are not looking to escape but consciously doing what is needed to future-proof and build our place of safety, comfort, and joy—and doing so with these 12 colors," she explains. "These thoughtful colors are focused on nature, heritage, and mindfulness."

To properly embody these emotions and concepts, here is what Valspar selected at its 2023 colors of the year:

Anyone closely following the trends year-over-year will see that the class of 2023 comfortably transitions from last year's colors. "We still spend more time at home and will continue to seek inspiration that’s close to home," explains Kim. "Inspiration from the past, along with local culture, will continue to fortify our home in the coming years." While time may change things slightly, our situations are still calling for nature's touch and home comforts as we march toward 2023.

Decor Styles That Pair Perfectly With the Colors of the Year

The beauty of color is that nearly any shade can be incorporated into any style of home. Though Valspar's colors of the year work in most homes, Kim says that some styles really stick out that would combine perfectly. "The influence of the Japandi style contrasts clean lines and rustic materials at home—woven elements add interest to the natural palette, and natural materials soften this simple aesthetic," she says. Since Japandi is all about balance, form, and function, colors like Cozy White and Villa Gray would be aesthetically pleasing.

More of a go-bold-or-go-home type person? There's a color for maximalists, too. "A light blue with softness, like Valspar Rising Tide, [can] stand in as an uplifting backdrop to elevate this aesthetic and bring a sophisticated yet playful mood," says Kim.

How to Work the Colors of the Year Into Your Home

The current look and feel of your home will be the best source of direction when bringing a new color in. Repainting the walls is a great way to refresh a room, but it's not the only way. Trim and baseboards can create a new pop of color, and so can lacquering up cabinets or permanent storage units.

With so many colors at your disposal, choosing just one might feel impossible. So why not two? Kim has sound advice, noting that flow should be your priority. "The second color choice should be intentional, like an accent wall or wainscoting, or stylized ceiling colors," she says. "The easy way is to find the lighter or darker, brighter or muted shade of primary color choice. This approach also works when you have an open floor plan and want to give a visual destination with the wall colors."

For anyone who is a bit more comfortable with bold palettes, Kim suggests selecting one of the colors in a muted version when you're working with complementary colors "to make the space livable." If you're feeling inspired, you can pick up the exact colors at Lowe's and independent retailers.

Colors of the Year + Top Home Color Trends for 2023

One of my favorite things to do is talk about color, so when fall rolls around and the colors of the year are announced, I get pretty excited.   Not only are the Color of the Year forecasts a helpful guide when selecting paint shades, they give me a good idea as to what interior design trends we’ll see developing in the coming months, as well.  So when paint companies like Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, Valspar, Behr, and others recently started announcing their Colors of the Year for 2023, I wanted to share them with you.

As you’ll see, the trending colors for 2023 are a varied bunch, but all are designed to bring a sense of warmth, comfort, and elegance to your home.  And, with a couple of exceptions, most of these shades would work well in just about any room in the house — and with just about any interior design style.

Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2023

Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year for 2023 is Raspberry Blush, described as “a vivacious shade of coral tinged with pink.”

This optimistic hue is part of Benjamin Moore’s Color Trends 2023, an entire color palette “built to envelop you in vivacious color. ”

Benjamin Moore Raspberry Blush (2008-30)

Besides the 2023 Color of the Year, Raspberry Blush, the Benjamin Moore 2023 Color Palette includes Conch Shell (a gentle dusty pink), Cinnamon (a rich brown with orange undertones), Wenge (a deep chocolate with hints of violet), Savannah Green (a balanced shade of ochre), New Age (an ethereal light purple with a hint of gray), Starry Night Blue (a deep navy color akin to indigo), and North Sea Green (a relaxing blend of blue-green).

Any of the shades in the 2023 Color Trends palette would pair beautifully with neutral hues.   Benjamin Moore recommends Etiquette (AF-50), White Heron (OC-57), Gray Owl (OC-52), and Onyx (2133-10) as neutrals with warm, cool, and neutral undertones– perfectly suited for using as a trim or accent color with Raspberry Blush or any of the other colors in the palette.

Behr Color of the Year 2023

Behr’s Color of the Year for 2023 is Blank Canvas (DC-003) a warm, cozy shade of white.  I happen to love that Behr chose white as their color of the year, because it’s a great option for any room in the home.

This shade of white is similar to Benjamin Moore White Dove (which we’ve used throughout our home) and would work well with just about any other color, including other warm neutral beiges and tans.

Behr Blank Canvas (DC-003)

Blank Canvas could be used to create a calming, welcoming atmosphere in the living room.

Here, Blank Canvas brings a fresh feeling to the kitchen.

I love the look of Blank Canvas in the bathroom.   This shade has the ability to make any space feel brighter and more modern.

As you know I love white walls (and white in general), so I think it’s wonderful that Behr chose Blank Canvas as their color of the year.

White paint can be used in so many great ways throughout the home — not only on walls, but on trim and molding, on kitchen cabinets, shelving, furniture, and bathroom vanities, as well.

Not only is white paint sophisticated, everyone can incorporate it in their home — and this particular shade of white is a classic.

If you’re considering painting your walls white, here’s my post on How to Choose the Best White Paint for Your Home.

And, if you’re thinking of painting your kitchen cabinets white, here’s my post on Our Kitchen Renovation.

Behr paint is available at The Home Depot.

Sherwin Williams Color of the Year 2023

The Sherwin Williams 2023 Color of the Year is a warm, earthy tone called Redend Point (SW-9081).

Sherwin Williams Redend Point

Described as minimal yet cozy, this color would make a nice backdrop or accent color for living spaces.

And, since it’s a calming hue, Redend Point could be used in a bedroom, as well.

Sherwin Williams Redend Point

The versatility of Redend Point makes it adaptable to just about any space in the home.

Here, it’s shown as a kitchen cabinet color.  This is a pretty bold choice, but I could see it working well in a bungalow or craftsman style home.

Sherwin Williams Redend Point

Interestingly, Redend Point is very similar to one of Valspar’s Colors of the Year, Southern Road.

Valspar Colors of the Year

Rather than just one shade, Valspar announced a collection of Colors of the Year for 2023, radiating joy, light, optimism, and warmth.

Valspar Everglade Deck

The Valspar 2023 Colors of the Year are livable shades that would work well in just about any space in the home.

The 2023 color palette includes Ivory Brown, Cozy White, Gentle Violet, Blue Arrow, Flora, Desert Carnation, Green Trellis, Rising Tide, Holmes Cream, Southern Road, Villa Grey, and Everglade Deck.

Valspar Ivory Brown

Valspar Cozy White

Valspar Gentle Violet

Valspar Blue Arrow is a balanced shade, merging cool tones of blue with warm undertones.  Here, it’s beautifully paired with white trim as an exterior color:

Valspar Blue Arrow

Valspar Flora is described as a deep, blackened olive, embodying charm and sophistication.

Valspar Flora

Valspar Holmes Cream

Valspar Southern Road

Valspar Desert Carnation

Valspar Green Trellis is another shade that would work well as an exterior paint color.  In fact, our home exterior is painted with a similar Valspar shade, Secret Moss.

Valspar Green Trellis

Valspar Rising Tide

Valspar Villa Grey

It’s probably no surprise that my favorite Valspar color for 2023 is Everglade Deck (5011-3), a rich midnight blue, described as “an elegant calming hue to restore mind, body and home.”

Not only is it trend-worthy, Everglade Deck is a classic, timeless shade that would bring an elegant touch to any space in the home.   I love it paired with brass, as shown in this chic bathroom:

Valspar Everglade Deck

Pantone Color of the Year 2023

Pantone has yet to announce their color of the year; however, color forecasters are predicting Pantone’s color of the year for 2023 will be Digital Lavender, also known as Coloro 134-67-16.  I’ll let you know when the official announcement is made.

Using Color in Your Home

Mixing and matching colors in your home doesn’t have to be daunting.  Try styling deep, saturated hues with light neutrals as a contrast.

You can also soften the bold look of color by introducing curved forms and plush textures to create a space that both inspires and calms.

To give you an idea of how you could use the 2023 colors of the year in various ways throughout your home, below are several inspiring spaces featuring colors and tones similar to those in the 2023 color trends.

Interior design trends — 2023

We tell you what finishes, furniture and decor in apartments will be relevant next year

Photo: Followtheflow\shutterstock

In 2023, retro items, smart furniture and natural materials will remain in trend. However, the ascetic minimalism, beloved by many, will be replaced by theatricality and even chaos in apartments.

Designers told what trends in interior design will be relevant in 2023.

Art in the home

www.adv.rbc.ru

One of the main trends in the interior, which will be especially relevant next year, is the desire to create something like a gallery, the designers say.

“Increasingly, space is being prepared in advance for the appearance of art elements: sculpture, painting, photography, ceramics, graphics of various formats, antiques, from chairs and armchairs to coat hooks, coffee and coffee tables, custom-made carpets. And this trend is not limited to items. Wall painting and table setting can also be called art in the interior. Today it is important for people to express their thoughts and emotions through creativity,” said Evgeny Nedoborov, founder of INRE Design Studio.

In addition to murals, various prints and patterns that can decorate wallpaper, tiles or textiles in an apartment will be relevant, Stepan Bugaev, founder of Tochka Design studio, noted. He also noted that already now the most fashionable interiors are decorated with retro-furniture, and next year this trend will strengthen. “It is worth noting that rounded cabinets, tables and chairs will also be relevant in 2023. In addition, you should pay attention to furniture with unusual curves,” the expert noted.

Non-conformism with a theatrical character

Minimalism is being replaced by non-conformism with a theatrical character, which gives homeowners the freedom to create interiors, the opportunity to reflect their personal philosophy.

“This is a bold departure from the usual framework, a violation of the generally accepted rules of composition. Did you expect completeness, symmetry? Perhaps you want to understand what style is in front of you? Will not work. Here it's the other way around. The interior conveys an atmosphere of incompleteness, incompleteness and a kind of creative chaos. As if it was unfinished, underpainted, underfilled. Against this background, restored elegant furniture, vintage light feel great. Together, this determines its unique chic. Here, incongruous things create an overall balanced scene in which there is no sense of disharmony,” said Inna Kaminskaya, founder of the Grande Familia (iRoomproject) studio.

Such interiors are unique and individual, and every detail in them has its own interesting history, Kaminskaya specified.

Tactility and natural texture

Previously, interiors were often made "dry" and soulless - they looked good in the photo, but it was not very comfortable to live in them. Today, a vector is visible when severe minimalism is moving towards spirituality and life, the designers say. “Increasingly, people think about tactility, expressive and natural texture. The design is created on the principle of "untouched by human hand". Natural materials are used in the decoration, for example, wild stone - chipped, unhewn, unpolished. The parquet board is more often chosen in natural shades. The interior today brings a person closer to nature and enlivens his living environment,” said the founder of INRE Design.

Organics in the design of apartments and houses is only becoming more popular, emphasized Bugaev. He advised using as much wool, cotton, velvet, clay, and ceramics as possible when lining walls or upholstering furniture. “Today, fine manufactory handiwork is also gaining special value. Such a design is always carefully thought out and conveys a special energy to its owner. Luxury and natural simplicity in one bundle will make the house warm, calm and cozy,” says Kaminskaya.

Spice colors

In 2023, warm colors with brown and pink tones will be the most relevant. They will look great against the background of a white or black base of walls, floors and ceilings, they will set a thoughtful depth and layering, the founder of the Grande Familia studio is convinced.

“Surely, many of you have seen the malls, strewn with dishes with all kinds of bright spices, they have vibrant natural colors and shades. It is they who set the motives for the color trends of 2023. White pepper, Himalayan pink salt, ground paprika, turmeric, opal basil, cinnamon, oregano or nutmeg… The most important thing is not to be afraid to experiment,” says Kaminskaya.

Natural materials such as jute, rattan, cattail and reed weave work perfectly with this palette of colors, the designer specified. According to her, finishing materials in casual style, raw surfaces, rough and textured fabrics will also remain in the trend.

Photo: Followtheflow\shutterstock

Blind spots and smart objects

Another trend that is gaining momentum is functional spaces that are invisible at the entrance to the apartment. “People are willing to pay for their comfort and functionality in the house. The trend to “surprise your neighbor” has gone, when money was spent only on those rooms where guests came, and it was possible to save money on intimate places (dressing rooms, laundry rooms). Nowadays, customers are increasingly making the interior for themselves. Every detail in the house is important: where we go, where we sleep, where we wash, where we store things,” said Nedoborov.

Blind spots — laundry rooms, pantries, utility cabinets — are no longer closed to the eye, they are made functional and thought out according to the smart home system, the designer noted. “Indeed, despite the relevance of retro and art, smart items will only gain popularity, because technology does not stand still. Cabinets and tables with built-in speakers and chargers have become especially relevant today,” Bugaev summed up.

Colors in the interior 2023 | Fashion Trends (85 photos)

Interior design largely depends on the environment. The right combination of colors in the interior is one of the most important design elements of a modern home. The color scheme can be used to express and emphasize the features of the interior. In most cases, the design of the premises uses several shades at the same time. Properly combining trendy colors in the interior of 2023, you can make the design of the apartment look much better, more expensive and more elegant.

Color combinations in the interior 2023 - fresh design ideas

The color of the room can be warm or cold. When designing a fashionable interior, the choice of a palette is of great importance, which will serve as the basis for the pattern (or upholstery) of the walls, ceiling, and floor. Under the influence of light, the color of the wall becomes transparent, textured, reflective. Therefore, you should not choose dark colors throughout the room, they are more suitable for the living room or dining room.

The functional purpose of the room and its placement in the house requires the use of two or more colors in the interior. For example, if rooms in the same color scheme are used for guests or spouses, then such a color background will create a feeling of warmth and tranquility.

The arrangement of furniture in the interior and wall decoration in the room must be in harmony. In the practice of interior design, several rules have been developed for the compatibility of materials and colors.

Nowadays, pieces of furniture add style and individuality to the room and become a decoration of any home. The choice of furniture color depends on the style of the interior, and sometimes on the overall color scheme. For example, a classic interior requires that the furniture be plain, without bright details.

Contrasting colors are not recommended for modern interiors. You should know that warm light colors make the room more spacious, and dark ones (blue, green, black) make it more compact. Classic color schemes work well in the interiors of apartments, without loading the room with unnecessary details.

Red color in the interior 2023

It is loved by strong-willed and courageous people, as well as those who want to emphasize the individuality and originality of the room. This color is chosen by many lovers of non-standard solutions. In combination with other tones, it can bring not only aesthetic pleasure, but also fill the room with bright ideas, emotions, and improve well-being.

The lightest shade of red in a fashionable interior of an apartment can be used in all variants, but it is better in large elements (windows, doors, floors, walls). A warm rich shade that goes well with many interior styles, ideal for large amounts of space and any design solutions. A feature of this color is that when using it, you can bring a feeling of luxury to the interior.

Green color in the interior 2023

Green color in the interior 2023 is the destiny of restrained and romantic natures. It organically looks with almost all objects in the room, successfully combined with blue, purple, yellow and orange shades.

In the modern interior of the bedroom it is necessary to use soft soft colors - pistachio, light green, mint, olive, which should be soft and not too contrasting.

In the living room it is better to choose intense shades of greenery (turquoise, lime, ruby, canary, emerald). To keep the interior of your home in green tones, you can purchase photo wallpapers with a green or brown background, decorate the room with green fringe, a tablecloth, and an abundance of indoor plants.

Muted green undertones should be used in the design of the kitchen area. In addition to them, blue, blue and yellow shades can be. Not bad in the interior of the kitchen look green curtains and furniture, wood-like linoleum or parquet, tiles with a green pattern.

If you don't have any of the above, you can play a little with the amount of green. From this, the design of an apartment, house or office will not become less interesting. Decorating a house or apartment in green can be a good solution in any case, but it should be remembered that this color “does not like” sharp contrasts.

Blue color in the interior 2023

Blue color in the 2023 season does not give up its positions and still remains fashionable and relevant in the interior. That is why designers, first of all, pay attention to this practical and versatile shade.

Today you can find many options for interior design in blue tones. At the same time, the blue color is combined with many other shades that you can choose to your taste. So, if you want to create a stylish and beautiful living room, then choose lavender tones.

Blue is not only cold shades, but also warm ones, such as turquoise, purple and blue. By the way, turquoise shades are widely used for decorating bedrooms.

Orange and yellow shades harmonize very well with this color. As a rule, they are rarely used in design, however, they can be combined into one color and used in neutral tones.

Do not forget about the white color, with which you can create almost any interior. Even if the room is kept in this neutral color, it will not be superfluous to add bright blue details. For example, use special decorative pillows that can be found in almost every store.

Almost all shades of blue look beautiful in combination with white. It is in this case that the color goes a little beyond the ordinary in the interior and appears in all its splendor.

Note! If you choose blue to decorate your bedroom, you can use various accessories for decoration to create an original contrast in the design of the room.

Furnishing a bedroom in blue is a great way to give the room freshness and softness. If too simple and strict colors are used in a room, this does not always have a good effect on the design.

What colors will be the most fashionable in the interior in 2023

Furnishings with different color schemes in 2023 will please not only with their appearance, but also with new trends in interior design. Trends in interior design will be presented in the form of individual rooms or entire apartments in bright, rich colors.

Indeed, now there are a lot of stylish and original colors for interior decoration in 2023. Proponents of the classics will use various shades of pastel color in the interior this season.

Pleasant, soft, cozy, calm - these are the main characteristics of the presented color. It does not excite, does not strain eyesight, does not dispose to vigorous activity. People who choose pastel prefer to create, create beautiful images, surround themselves with pleasant things.

For such people, muted tones are suitable, which will soothe, create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. The rooms, decorated in pastel colors, are very romantic and gentle. They attract the eye and create a feeling of relaxation, as they are filled with light and air. The main characteristics of pastel colors are neutrality, grace, comfort and warmth, creating a calm atmosphere in the bedroom, living room or kitchen.

White color in the interior Designers advise betting on this shade as the base. The room in this color will look more airy, light and spacious. White walls and furniture will create a sense of order and cleanliness, refresh the interior, add contrast, give the texture of the room uniformity, divert attention from small details.

White tone, due to its versatility, is suitable for use in a variety of styles and directions of interior design as an additional or primary color.

If you want to bring the most fashionable colors of 2023 into your interior design, feel free to choose calm shades - cream, milky, peach, beige, champagne. The restraint and clarity of white will help create a space where nothing will distract attention and cause irritation.

Plain white walls or an accent surface in this color look great, textile wallpaper with a bright pattern, frames with beautiful white or yellow prints, mirrors in a gilded frame, pictures in a baguette.

In the kitchen, white makes an impression when combined with solid brown, beige or golden furniture. In addition, with an orange textile tablecloth, black oilcloth on the table, beautiful chandeliers, white candles and massive furniture trimmed with mother-of-pearl inserts. In the kitchen area, you can use small white plastic cabinets with glass doors as a contrast to the interior and the color of the walls.

White sanitary ware, tiles and various accessories in the bathroom (white soap, bathrobes, towels with a white pattern) will create the necessary accents and make the room brighter. Thus, the white gamma is suitable for those who want to live in harmony with nature, who love cleanliness and order.

It is important to remember that the specified color has many disadvantages. It does not fit well with strict interiors and some colors. It is not recommended to use monochrome shades of white for decorating dining rooms, children's rooms, as it reduces the functionality of the premises, making the space too boring and nondescript.

Gray in the interior 2023

Gray is one of the most beautiful colors in interior design in 2023. The interior in gray is very popular not only in Russia, but all over the world. Psychologists recommend working with shades of gray a little differently than with other colors.

Gray scales are characterized by lightness, they are soft shades that give the interior harmony and tranquility. They do not excite, do not stimulate activity, unlike saturated colors.

At the same time, the gray shade may seem banal and boring if the interior is dominated by many other colors. To prevent this from happening, the gray palette should be diluted and supplemented with bright shades.

The best option in 2023 will be beautiful designer wallpaper with floral patterns or a more neutral color scheme that will visually change the space.

When choosing gray wallpaper for the living room or kitchen, remember that this color combination is not suitable for a bedroom or nursery. For such rooms, it is better to choose colors that will attract attention. Namely - green, red, blue, orange, all shades of blue.

Gray walls are perfectly combined with dark wood furnishings, fashion collections of Italian furniture. The gray shade will be appropriate in the decoration of the toilet and bathroom. Anything that gives off yellowness should be avoided, as this will make the room boring and inexpressive. Chameleon paint, tiles and other materials that imitate different shades of gray are used for walls.

If the red color will prevail in the room, then it should be in the form of wallpaper or on the surface of the furniture.

Intricate combinations of olive hue and blue will give the trendy interior of 2021 a cheerful character. This is a great solution for the living room. With the help of such a wonderful tandem, you can expand its size.

Do you want to create a bright color accent? Then use the most popular colors in the interior of 2023.
