DTSDTS is the direct competitor of Dolby Digital. In contrast to the latter’s object-based surround sound, DTS goes for a multi-dimensional surround.
It offers much less compressed audio quality as well as a higher bit rate. It’s the more attainable format, too, since it can run on a standard 5.1 system. Its advanced variation, the DTS:X, can run on regular 7.1 surround sound speaker systems without the need for extra speakers.
