54 Inspiring Modern Bedroom Ideas

1

Mirrored Walls (Not Ceilings)

Stephen Kent Johnson

The bedroom of Apparatus’s Gabriel Hendifar New York City apartment is an object lesson in how a mirrored wall—long considered a relic of a bygone era—can be just what a modern bedroom needs. The custom brass bed is topped with a bedcover and bolster in Zak+Fox fabrics. The pendant and nightstand are by Apparatus.

2

Sinuous Accent Chaise

Ty Cole Studio

As much as you may want your bedroom to be a quiet sanctuary, the presence of a dramatic piece of furniture, like this sinuous rocking chaise by Igor Rodrigues in a 2Michaels townhouse project on the Upper West Side, won’t keep you up past bedtime.

3

All Out Aubergine

David Land

There is no more sophisticated shade of purple than eggplant, as evidenced in this Brooklyn family residence designed by Danielle Fennoy of Revamp. The bedroom walls are covered in Farrow & Ball’s Brinjal paint. The custom bed’s headboard, beneath an artwork by Stan Brodsky, is upholstered in a Romo print, and the throw pillow is in a Dedar fabric.

4

Haute Tension

Stephan Julliard

If your interior aesthetic swings contemporary but the architecture is antique, it’s always advisable to preserve some original elements to then mix with modern furniture pieces. In the Paris apartment of Hugo Toro, the stained-glass window in the bedroom is original to the apartment. The chair is by Timothée Musset, and the curtains are from Silva Paris. The carpet and the leather bed frame are custom.

5

Repurposed-Door Headboard

Frank Frances Studio

A headboard doesn’t need to be upholstered, tufted— or a headboard at all, for that matter. In a Brooklyn brownstone designed by Ishka Designs, carved wooden doors from Morocco make a perfect decorative headboard. The pouf is from CB2, the pendant light by Workstead. The carpet is from Nourison, and the curtains are from the Shade Store.

6

Better Together

Peter Murdock

Where is it written that two beds need two discrete headboards? Answer: nowhere worth mentioning. After seeing this custom bed arrangement in a Long Island house by Joe Nahem, consider the argument Q.E.D. The table is by ModShop, and the lamp is from Allied Maker. The artwork is by Jessi Reaves.

7

Hitting the Tube Lights

Read Mckendree, from Workshop/APD Homes: Architecture, Interiors, and the Spaces Between, Rizzoli New York, 2022.

Bedside lamps can be nice, but they take up room on the nightstand. In a Workshop/APD project in Manhattan, these Orion tube lights by Lee Broom from the Future Perfect provide an exceedingly chic solution. The headboard was upholstered in a Pierre Frey fabric, and the curtains are by Cowtan & Tout. Underfoot is a custom Medina rug by Eskayel.

8

Lower the Pendant

Francesco Dolfo

In Milan, anything goes. Case in point: Designer Paolo Castellarin installed a Flos pendant to hover next to the pillows. Some might have an issue with this, but stylishly irreverent is something we should all aspire to be. The Vico Magistretti bed from Flou is topped with Loro Piana throws and Fornasetti pillows. The wall paint is RAL Pale Brown, and the window paint is RAL Green Beige.

9

Maximum Botanicals

Shade Degges

There’s botanical wallpaper, and then there’s botanical wallpaper. This example from Lizzo in a Malibu home designed by Martha Mulholland is an impressionistic visual feast that will keep you close to nature, even if the view from your bedroom window is of a brick wall. The vintage pendants by Bruno Chiarini for Stilnovo hang down on either side.

10

Mixed, Not Matched

Marni Epstein-Mervis

The throw has nothing to do with throw pillows, which have nothing to do with the headboard. And yet, everything fits together perfectly. It’s sprezzatura for the bedroom in an Oakland, California, house by Duett Interiors, and it’s oh-so-appealing.

11

Timber Trifecta

Stephan Julliard

Rattan and pine and mahogany! Oh my! Who says brown is dead? Jacques Grange proves that tired conceit wrong with this calmly sophisticated bedroom in a Comporta, Portugal, house. A pendant from Loja de Cá hangs from a soaring pine ceiling. The rattan screen and floor lamp are both from Paris flea markets; the vintage Mozambique mahogany cabinet is from Santa Maria Velharias. The artwork is by Ophélie Asch.

12

Blue Is the Warmest Color

Isabel Parra

Very few colors can bring both a feeling of joy and moodiness to a bedroom like this shade of blue from Farrow & Ball used by Perifio in a house in Hudson Valley. The throw on the Lulu and Georgia bed is from Missoni Home, the Verner Panton chair is vintage, the side tables are from &Tradition, and the sconces are from Lighting NYC. The walls are in Inchyra Blue from Farrow & Ball.

13

Infinite Headboard

Stephen Kent Johnson

Where does a headboard stop and a room begin? That’s not easy to answer. Ashe Leandro provides a new twist in an Upper East Side apartment with one that wraps around the periphery of the room. The custom nightstand is by Rob Pluhowski, the sconce is from Lites on West, the bed linens are by Matteo, and the throw is from Area Home.

14

A Hint of Yellow

silvia foz

What’s that peering through from behind the creamy bedding? It’s all our eyes can see. Is it...? Why, yes. That’s a dollop of mustard in a New York City bedroom by Carly Cushnie, as strong in appearance as Colman’s is to taste. A collage of vintage saris adds another splash of yellow above the bed.

15

One Big Dark Room

Nick Glimenakis

Don’t underestimate the calming qualities of an all-black room. Delia Kenza went for it here in the main bedroom of a Brooklyn townhouse. Verdict? Worth the risk!

16

Frey All Day

Joanna Maclennan

Every house should include some Pierre Frey fabrics. They’re chic, they’re classic, and they’re extremely well made. Patrick Frey, of Pierre Frey, just went all out in his use of the family product in his house in the south of France. The bedcover, canopy, and pillows are all in Pierre Frey fabrics. The rattan trunk is vintage, and the rug is by—you guessed it—Pierre Frey.

A pendant by Philippe Anthonioz makes a statement in the center of the room.

While the term “modern décor” might bring to mind the Jetsons' flying cars and automated homes, this now-classic decorating and architectural style has been around for quite some time. It arose out of the German Bauhaus art school in the early decades of the 1900s and reflected the mindset of the modernism movement. Simple, clean, and functional, modern style was a sharp contrast to the Art Deco look so popular at the time.

If you're looking for inspiration on how to bring the modern style to your bedroom, take a look at these 40 ideas we've compiled.

  • 01 of 40

    Contemporary vs. Modern

    Brophy Interiors

Many people use the words “contemporary” and “modern” interchangeably, but they are not the same. Modern refers to a particular style. On the other hand, contemporary refers to the styles in vogue at that time, and so “contemporary” is a fluid, ever-changing concept. Because modern décor is currently extremely popular, it falls under the contemporary umbrella, adding to the confusion. The bedroom shown here is a prime example of midcentury modern design—an example of a popular decor style that embraces decidedly modern attributes.

  • 02 of 40

    Form Follows Function

    Kendall Wilkinson Design

The modernism movement embraced the concept, “Form follows function,” meaning that the most important aspect of a piece of furniture (or space) is its intended use rather than its appearance. In other words, appearance is secondary to function. This doesn’t mean modern style is ugly; it means that it is typically without unnecessary adornment. Clean lines on furnishings and plenty of open space are essential components of this look.

  • 03 of 40

    Mid-century Modern

    Tyler Karu Design

By far the most popular variation of modern style is what’s commonly referred to as mid-century modern, or MCM. Created in the United States during the 1920s and 1930s, MCM reached the pinnacle of popularity during the 1950s and 1960s, practically defining the decorating style of those decades. Midcentury modern is once again red-hot on the decorating scene, with no signs of fading away anytime soon.

  • 04 of 40

    Modern Color Schemes

Mindy Gayer / Photo by Lane Dittoe

Traditionally, the modern color scheme is neutral: Various shades of brown, cream, tan, black, gray, and white predominate. Early Bauhaus designers used small touches of red, yellow, or blue as accents. As the style matured, neutrals remained the primary palette, but the use of bright, cheery accent colors became more common.

  • 05 of 40

    Natural Materials

    Cathie Hong

Modern and midcentury modern decor embrace natural materials, particularly wood, as seen in the primary bedroom shown here. However, the use of plastics and chrome is an integral part of the MCM look, adding the color, shine, and celebration of mass-produced things that are typical of this style.

    About This Term: Primary Bedroom

Many real estate associations, including the National Association of Home Builders, have classified the term "Master Bedroom" as discriminatory. "Primary Bedroom" is the name now widely used among the real estate community and better reflects the purpose of the room.

    Geometric Patterns

    Mary Patton Design

Clean-lined geometric patterns are prized in the modern style. “Atomic” designs are an especially fun touch in a midcentury modern bedroom. The combination of color and shape is artistic yet functional.

  • 07 of 40

    Spotlight on Art

    Ashley Montgomery Designs

Fussy knickknacks, unnecessary collectibles, and general clutter are nowhere to be seen in the modern bedroom. Instead, this style spotlights artwork, especially large paintings, posters, or prints on the walls. If you can overlay a gorgeous painting over a patterned wall like the room shown here, even better.

  • 08 of 40

    Scandinavian Modern

    Home and Spirit / Instagram

An offshoot of midcentury modern, Scandinavian modern embraces a similar clean, streamlined, and functional look but tends to use white far more than the other neutrals, particularly on the floors and walls. Classic IKEA furniture is an example of a Scandinavian modern design.

  • 09 of 40

    Raised Furniture

    Bespoke Only

One thing you’ll see a lot of on midcentury modern furniture are legs, particularly metal hairpin or simple wooden dowel legs. The raised profile of MCM furniture is characteristic of the airy openness of the style and makes these pieces especially well-suited to small rooms.

  • 10 of 40

    Bright Accents

    Rush Me Home

While a subdued color scheme is a hallmark of modern décor, pops of bright accent color keep it from being lifeless. Red and orange are especially popular as accents, although any favorite color can play the part. The jewel toned green drapes look bright in this neutral color scheme room.

  • 11 of 40

    Versatility and Flexibility

    Brophy Interiors

Modern style is versatile enough to work with just about anyone's needs. Create a bedroom that works for you; after all, functionality is a basic theme of modernism. This designer incorporated a small work area in this modern bedroom.

  • 12 of 40

    Added Interest

    Kate Marker Interiors

Despite the simple lines, neutral colors, and lack of accessories in the typical modern bedroom, the look isn't at all boring or sterile. Just one special touch, such as the dandelion light fixture in this room, is all it takes to add interest.

    Light and Airy

    Jenn Pablo Studio

The modern style is not one for clutter or lots of furniture. Instead, a light, airy vibe adds to the overall clean and simple appearance. Including only specific items that play a distinct role highlight what is truly important, and will be essential in helping you keep your things spacious and minimal.

  • 14 of 40

    Polished Surfaces

    Cathie Hong

For the most part, surfaces in a modern room are smooth and often shiny. Polished floors, lacquered or highly polished furniture, accents of metal—especially chrome—and glass all add to the clean, modern vibe.

  • 15 of 40

    A Show of Personality

    Home and Spirit

Whatever your decorating style, feel free to have some fun adding your own touches to the mix. An array of prints, a folded favorite quilt, a souvenir basket holding a potted plant—little changes can make the biggest difference in a modern space.

  • 16 of 40

    Multi-Purpose Furniture

    Brophy Interiors

Furniture that serves more than one purpose screams modern design. Pieces like a bench with storage space at the foot of the bed or a bed frame with built-in floating shelves to serve as side tables fit the modern look perfectly. Selecting sleek, multi-functioning pieces is a fantastic way to add the design to your room–after all, form does follow function.

  • 17 of 40

    Serene Modern Style

    Charlie Interior Design

The soft colors, simple lines, and lack of clutter give the modern style a calming, relaxed vibe, making it an excellent choice for the primary bedroom.

  • 18 of 40

    Angular Light Fixtures

    Amy Lau Design

Although midcentury modern design is mostly clean and without excessive ornamentation, one exception to that rule is the use of angular or unusual light fixtures, particularly “atomic” styled fixtures, as seen in the beachy modern bedroom from Amy Lau Design shown here.

  • 19 of 40

    Minimalist Primary Bedroom

    Tyler Karu Design

Minimalism is similar to modern design in that it emphasizes a spotless, simple look without a lot of adornment. Often, midcentury modern furniture fits well into this “less is more” decorating philosophy.

Accent Walls Tips: The Essential Dos and Don'ts

  • 20 of 40

    Platform Beds

    Cathie Hong

Simple platform beds are a common sight in the modern bedroom, particularly Scandinavian modern style. Keeping space available under the bed or other furniture contributes to the open space that's so important to this style.

  • 21 of 40

    Modern Mix and Match

    Buchard Design Co / Instagram

The 1970s-inspired macrame pillows, along with the soft brown bed linens, add a bit of funky retro style to any modern bedroom. This design style is open to mixing and matching with other elements, so feel free to play around with patterns, textures, and other decor, like the contemporary painted circle on the wall.

  • 22 of 40

    Vertical Touches

    Buchard Design Co.

Hanging light fixtures break up the mostly horizontal planes of a modern bedroom. This peaceful, beautiful primary bedroom uses copper pendants to great effect. So serene and lovely.

  • 23 of 40

    Natural Materials as Decor

    Arbor & Co

Modern style celebrates natural materials, such as wood and stone, as artwork in their own right. Midcentury modern architecture often used wood not just as flooring but also to panel the walls and even the ceiling.

  • 24 of 40

    Area Rugs

    Sire Design

Although midcentury modern typically is fairly subdued in color, exceptions are the rule when it comes to interior design. An area rug with fun colors or patterns can change the whole atmosphere of a room, so keep that in mind when selecting one for your floor.

  • 25 of 40

    Playful With Patterns

    Alvin Wayne

Modern styles don't have to be plain or without a pattern–quite the contrary. This stunning modern bedroom proves our point by using smaller designs that are contrasting yet not overbearing. The neutral polka dot comforter, the different textures of accent pillows, and the decorative pattern on the area rug all bring interest yet keep the room decidedly modern in theme.

  • 26 of 40

Black and White for Bold Contrasts

    Kurated by Kris

Modern styles can be subtle, but can also take a bold approach–and what better way to go about it than creating a classic contrast with black and white? The striking appearance of the black geometric accent wall with the pure white comforter is stunning, and the blanket with the accent pillows helps tie both hues together.

  • 27 of 40

    Marvelously Monochromatic

    Amy Leferink at Interior Impressions

Monochromatic color schemes help unify your entire room with ease and give an air of sophistication. The room shown here leans into a neutral monochrome concept–various shades of gray with additional touches of white. The gorgeous black and gold global light fixture and golden light sconces on the wall are a flawless addition that adds a dose of industrial to the rest of the room.

  • 28 of 40

    Cool and Comfortable

    Arbor & Co.

Cool tones are always a safe bet when decorating a modern bedroom, and the black wire lamp creates some contrast against the softer textures on the bed. Comfort doesn't take priority over function in this style, but the minimalist decor keeps the space from feeling too crowded.

  • 29 of 40

    Modern Farmhouse

    Ashley Webb Interiors

The farmhouse style is a favorite for many with its rustic and charming appearance. If you feel torn between a contemporary to farmhouse vibe, the good news is you can easily blend them together. Choose antique-style furniture, like the matching accent tables shown in this bedroom. Go with braided textures and fabrics, white walls, and incorporate a neutral color palette of beiges, charcoal gray, and light gray to add a modern feel.

  • 30 of 40

    Focus on One Key Piece

    Ashley Montgomery Design

Even one simple swap can create the modern atmosphere you're hoping for. An example is to switch out your current light fixture for a modern one–something metallic and geometric that is almost as much an art piece as it is a functional necessity. The rest of this room includes touches of other characteristics, with the brown, blue, and white color scheme and framed artwork on a white wall, but the overhead light is truly the most obvious modern aspect.

  • 31 of 40

    Accent Wall

    Ashley Montgomery Design

While the style usually leans towards white or solid color concepts, you can still add some flair by incorporating an accent wall into your bedroom. Selecting a consistent pattern in a darker hue creates a dramatic yet still sophisticated vibe.

  • 32 of 40

    Canopy Bed Frame

    Brophy Interiors

Canopy bed frames are a perfect modern staple, considering they contribute to the strong and sleek lines popular within the style. This four-poster bedframe, created with strong wooden beams, draws your eye upwards and helps tie together other decor items, like the bedside tables and wooden photo frames.

  • 33 of 40

    California Cool

    Chelius House of Design

The sophistication of the modern style and the relaxation of a California coastal theme? Count us in. To get the look for yourself, gravitate towards ocean and sandy colored tones that create a "go with the flow" atmosphere, perfect for a bedroom. However, adding some simple decor options, like the midcentury modern bench at the end of the bed, the patterned accent pillows, and a simple piece of artwork, will elevate the space from becoming a typical coastal theme.

  • 34 of 40

    Modern and Glamorous

    Erin Williamson Design

A simple way to ensure your bedroom has a modern feel is by changing the layout to create plenty of open space. Natural Light is a Must

    LeClair Decor

Rather than relying solely on indoor light fixtures, bringing in as much natural light as possible is ideal. If you have access to large windows, keep them open to allow the sunlight to pour in and give the feeling of a wide-open space. If you need some privacy, curtains can still be used–just keep them light and easy to move to not inhibit light from coming through.

    Industrial Qualities

Allowing natural elements and frameworks of a space is a strong indicator of a modern room. Whether it's natural brick, exposed wood beams, steel pipes, or a combination, it's best to embrace the industrial parts rather than remove or cover them up. Adding decor like the metal overhanging lamps and holding onto the gray, white, and black color scheme only enhances the elements, and the small pop of yellow helps keep the place from feeling cold and uninviting.

The best finishing materials

The main requirements for finishing materials are naturalness and accuracy.

Many designers show impeccably smooth wall surfaces, decorated with wallpaper intended for painting. Ordinary wallpaper has a barely noticeable velvet structure.

To put it simply, the wall surface of a modern style break room is a type of traditional stucco finish that has been applied by a professional.

Stone or solid wood headboards are common ideas for modern bedrooms. There are projects with a more spacious use of decorative stone, wood, but very rarely.

The use of any finishing materials is welcome in the decor of the main wall. Preference: natural.

If we talk about the floor surface, then the design of the bedroom of modern ideas almost eliminates the use of stone. A natural array and a laminate of calm pastel shades are welcome.

At the same time, attention should be focused on a comfortable, inviting sleeping place.

Often, partially or completely, the laminate is covered with carpet. If the choice falls in favor of the carpet, then it should be fluffy, pleasant to the touch.

The ceiling in the design of modern bedrooms 2017 provides openness and cleanliness. Get rid of overhanging slats, and also eliminate the excess of bizarre drywall bends.

The ceiling surface must be created exclusively for lighting fixtures.

Lighting

When arranging a modern bedroom interior, lighting can be very diverse. You can use a variety of levels of illumination, including for the ceiling, walls and even the floor.

Light can be everywhere, but not at the same time. Complement traditional fixtures with LED lighting elements to visually enlarge the room and give it depth.

The use of LED lighting makes it possible to create amazing lighting effects.

Furniture with a mirror surface

Bedroom furniture is often equipped with mirrors. It is the mirror surface that blurs the boundaries of the room, which is especially important when arranging modern small bedrooms.

A separate huge mirror placed on a wall surface or placed directly on the floor.

It is preferable to avoid reflecting the sleeping place, so as not to multiply the movements that we are trying to get rid of.

What is the difference between a bed in a modern lounge and a traditional bed? In a textured rather high headboard. Someone likes to lift it slightly, and someone to the ceiling.

At the same time, there may be curly elements on the headboard, but not too pretentious.

Use the tips discussed today to create an original and cozy bedroom in a modern style for your fairy tale dreams.

Advantages and disadvantages of modern style in bedroom design

With the development of new technologies in the field of building finishing materials and furniture production, painting of plastered walls and floors, expensive, labor-intensive, and difficult to maintain parquet, bulky bedroom sets and heavy curtains are a thing of the past. They were replaced by textured plaster, creative wallpaper, suspended ceilings, laminate, carpet, modular furniture, blinds and roller blinds. They are easy to install, practical and easy to maintain. Panoramic windows add light and create a sense of space.

Natural wood furniture is at the peak of popularity, and can consist of individual modules that are easily transformed, swapped, creating an exclusive composition each time. With their help, the space of a modern bedroom becomes not only functional, but also stylish. Along with environmentally friendly materials, when filling the bedroom, MDF and plastic furniture is also used to reduce the cost.

By observing the harmony in the color scheme, it is possible to get a single sleeping space from disparate objects that meets the new trends in decoration. The boundaries of modern styles are in close contact with each other, the stylistic direction is sometimes captured only by the accents of the furniture and decorative details used in the design.

Space zoning can be achieved using modular systems, through the use of organically integrated lightweight sliding partitions, decorative structures, screens or curtains.

Dressing rooms, bathroom and study rooms, as well as boudoirs can be moved outside the bedroom, or vice versa, if the area allows, to be part of it,

or a continuation in the attached loggia or balcony.

Designers also actively use podiums for visual division of space, raising part of the floor surface of one zone relative to another by several centimeters.

Another of the planning solutions for highlighting conditional boundaries is the use of ceiling beams and consoles, which do not interfere with the arrangement of furniture and the passage of light, but only visually highlight part of the room.

To highlight the bedside area in modern design, textured wallpaper or plaster, wood, leather and stone imitation, or open shelving can be used.

Modern bedroom interiors are easy to make stylish and fashionable, using a variety of materials and combining them with different lighting options.

The colors of finishing materials and furniture must be determined in advance, they should not cause negative perception. The interior of a modern bedroom can and should be thought out in such a way that it is psychologically comfortable.

The smaller the area allocated to the bedroom, the lighter the palette used, the use of pastel colors visually expands the space.

Shades such as yellow and cream, blue, peach, olive, light green and mint will help you get a positive charge.

For the expressiveness of the interior of a modern bedroom, you can add a few details of a more saturated color to these shades. Excess should not be here, congestion of bright colors does not contribute to a restful sleep.

After choosing the right background shade, you can emphasize the modernity of the bedroom design with the following interior solutions:

  • by combining materials;
  • bright lighting;
  • large multifunctional furniture of simple shapes;
  • accents based on contrast;
  • using glossy wall surfaces;
  • creating relief forms and volumes.

Modern style implies a minimum number of decorative elements and household appliances, since the main task of a proper modern bedroom decor is to create a cozy environment.

The main trends in modern bedroom design

Modern bedrooms are characterized by recognizable features and noticeable differences. It became possible to systematize them according to certain criteria in the use of materials, forms and accents.

Modern trends include:

  • Modern classics;
  • Modern;
  • Minimalism;
  • Loft;
  • Scandinavian;
  • Techno;
  • Hi-tech;
  • East;
  • Provence;
  • Country.

Contemporary Classic

Classic interiors suggest opulence with sophisticated luxury in modern lines. Massive furniture, simple in form, gives fundamentality and significance to the look of the bedroom interior, large patterns on the surface of the walls, textile accessories and soft lighting make the room a little pompous and elegant.

Decorative accessories are selected from patterned textiles or velvet in the form of stylish pillows and similar curtains.

Art Nouveau

Catchy and bold, somewhat aristocratic and sophisticated style suggests smooth, curved lines. They are used in the silhouettes of furniture, repeated in the contours of the stretch ceiling, door and window openings.

Fine wood of the elegantly curved legs and sides of the furniture can be combined with marble inlays and glass surfaces. It is absolutely unacceptable to use "cheap" materials in modernity, it will look tasteless.

Stained-glass windows in doorways are the most recognizable element of Art Nouveau, the light streaming through them will add mystery to the room.

Minimalism

Minimalism is the best choice for decorating a small modern bedroom, but it can also be used in a large space if desired.

The most necessary pieces of furniture, literally a bed and a bedside table, the complete absence of draperies and trinkets organize the sleeping space without the effect of clutter.

Loft

Sometimes you want to combine the incongruous, that's what it is, the loft style! Home comfort and street design elements organically interact with each other, creating the most open space with a well-organized seating area. An ideal room for embodying the loft style would be a spacious and bright bedroom.

Steel lamps and blinds will perfectly complement the interior of the bedroom.

Scandinavian

North European interiors stand out from other styles with a minimum of color. Such an option as white on white (white walls, white ceiling and white floor), or with the addition of warm shades (laminate under light oak, walnut or maple). Textured wood and textured stucco - that's what can create a unique look, allow the interior to be elegant, and contrasting color spots - not boring.

Eco-friendly wood and natural fabrics will promote sound and healthy sleep and pleasant awakening. The photo perfectly shows the combination of wood and soft fabric.

Scandinavian style advocates a minimal amount of decorative items, but allows for a few posters or photographs on the walls.

Techno

The techno style was originally conceived for the appearance of facades and office premises, a bedroom in this style looks not only unusual, but also uncomfortable, it is more difficult to equip it than to apply other styles, and such bedrooms are most often chosen by teenagers or bachelors .

So that the techno-style bedroom does not look like a government institution, it is better to add at least a few details from the loft to it.

Hi-tech

Hi-tech, as a follower of late modernism, includes the introduction of new technologies in interior design. Bedrooms in this style are functional and comfortable. Here, designers actively use modular and multifunctional furniture, which is easy to fit into any, even very unusual, room configuration.

Silver-blue, metallic-grey, blue - this is the color palette that is inherent in high-tech style. Combining them with beige or white will refresh and bring a fresh touch, and one or two paintings with abstraction will balance and make the interior complete.

Oriental

Oriental refers to Japanese and Turkish styles, the former will be completely devoid of frills, this is not just a stylization of the traditions of Japan, but a whole philosophy in red, black and white.

Materials used are wood and bamboo, curtains are always made of silk, porcelain and stone as accents.

The Turkish style is also oriental and involves the use of canopies and light, flowing fabrics.

Provence

It can be considered one of the varieties of rustic style, it always uses pastel shades and natural materials with floral motifs.

Lots of knick-knacks and potted flowers, chintz curtains and light-coloured furniture make the bedroom light and airy, despite its size.

Country

Country is another subspecies of rustic, associated with hunting lodges and American ranches, but it is, first of all, an eco-friendly style, as close as possible to nature. The design concept is the use of natural materials in open structures and finishes. Such bedrooms are most often equipped in country cottages. A fireplace, the facade of which is made of raw stone, can become a wonderful accent here.

Features of the bedroom decoration

The direct purpose of any bedroom is to give you the opportunity to relax, sleep, recuperate. Based on these needs, its design should promote relaxation and soothing, so the interior is created balanced and harmonious.

Walls

The main criterion for vertical surfaces is their clear geometry and perfectly aligned walls.

Wallcoverings can be either glossy or velvety, the former will meet the requirement of cleanliness, while the latter will emphasize the purpose of the room for relaxation. Unlike the walls of the living room or kitchen, bright, flashy colors are not used in the bedrooms at all, preference is given to pastel calm shades, soothing and relaxing.

Frescoes and textured finishes are also an up-to-date solution for wall decoration, while transoms and door inserts can decorate stained-glass windows.

Modern design allows for the presence of raw stone and non-plastered walls in different styles, if the designer's idea requires it. Wood trim at the head of the bed is also a significant accent in the space of the room.

Ceiling

For all styles, except techno and country, the ceiling of the bedroom should be open, without overhanging beams and slats, the only accent here would be a beautiful chandelier.

Modern trends make it possible to make the ceiling two-layer, as an option, with a mirror surface, which is drawn in by a special curtain on rollers - guides, which is controlled by mood at the touch of a button. Multi-layer plasterboard ceilings are a thing of the past, but stucco rosettes for chandeliers and high cornices continue to be successfully used in decoration.

Floor

Wood, cork or laminate - these are the main modern floorings that meet the requirements of cleanliness and comfort. For an additional feeling of comfort and softness, the use of carpet is allowed.

Furniture and lighting

A bed and bedside tables, a wardrobe or chest of drawers, various ottomans should be, first of all, comfortable and practical. If the bedroom is not large, then the closet or wardrobe can be taken out of it, but for convenience, if there is free space, it will still not be superfluous to fit a wardrobe into the interior of the room, built-in furniture will also be an ideal option.

Mirrors add mystery and visually push the boundaries of the walls, and mirrored cabinet fronts make massive furniture almost invisible. It has become a fashionable trend to use glass bedside tables instead of the usual cabinets.

When installing lighting, you can use:

  • floor lamps;
  • table and bedside lamps;
  • ceiling chandeliers.

Decor and accessories

Excessive focus on small details leads to congestion, does not allow you to enjoy a comfortable rest and does not allow your eyes to relax.

Decorative panels and murals with popular themes of urbanism, abstraction or macro photography can be used as the main accent on the walls, they will also be appropriate on furniture facades, imitation of brick or stone, wood trim is also suitable. This will make it possible to highlight the bedside area.

Curtains in the bedroom can be unusual, bright filament, in the form of a grid with a large mesh, roller-type curtains with a print matched in the same style as the furniture.

Potted plants or bouquets in vases are a wonderful refreshment.

To make the walls less boring, you can diversify their surface with clocks, built-in lighting, framed photographs or paintings, modern graphics and light shelves made of glass or plastic.

Spots of color add variety and compensate for the lack of color, they can easily become blankets and pillows, bedspreads and paintings.

Design options for a small bedroom

Small bedrooms, oddly enough, are more comfortable than large and spacious ones. Most often they are found in apartments with a typical layout. The easiest way to arrange them in a rustic style. Natural materials used in the decoration of such rooms give a feeling of warmth and security.

If rustic styles are not acceptable, high-tech options can be considered. Keeping the balance and not overloading the already cramped space, you can get a cozy and stylish bedroom.

Modern loft means large areas, but modern will be very useful. Modern is universal, furniture in this style is simple and does not clutter up the room, it can even be built-in. Regarding lighting, Art Nouveau has no special requirements, so this style is appropriate for any area, the main thing to remember is that the fewer items in a small bedroom, the visually it looks larger.

For a bedroom with an area of 12 sq.m, all of the above options are suitable, and here, as in the case of 8 sq.m, pompous classics with elaborate baroque elements will be out of place, but it’s already easier to decorate the room under country, Scandinavian style or minimalism.
