A floor lamp for the bathroom is the perfect solution to obtain in a simple and effective way the desired lighting effect, but it is necessary to take into account some tricks to choose the most suitable model for the environment to be furnished. In fact, a floor element not only diffuses light but it is able to contribute to the success of a style of furniture as well. Modern floor lamps for bathrooms are characterized by a rather essential and dry style. Among these, metal floor lamps for bathroom are available in many shapes and range from thin lines to more refined thicknesses. The important thing is to take into account the space available, so as not to risk obtaining a counterproductive effect and to fill the room too much.
Adjustable floor lamps: atmospheric light and direct light
When choosing a floor lamp for the bathroom it is important to take into account the position of the lamp itself, precisely to properly study the area to illuminate. An alternative solution are the adjustable floor lamps, which allow you to direct the light from time to time to illuminate specific points. From classic adjustable floor lamps to modern designed adjustable floor lamps, these models are perfect for a small corner of the room and, developing in height, they can be used both for atmospheric lighting and to create a more direct light on specific points. A more traditional style? This is the case of the adjustable floor lamps in fabric, refined in the shapes by the classic lampshade. For a modern style, instead, choose an adjustable metal floor lamp, which ensures continuity with the surrounding furniture.

Types of Bathroom Lights
Before shopping our collection of popular bath fixtures consider our quick references below. These definitions and advice may help you feel more prepared as you browse bathroom lights to buy online.
· Bathroom Vanity Lighting: Vanity lights are the lights that illuminate a vanity mirror over a bathroom sink. This is an important light source that provides task lighting to help you groom and apply makeup. It can also serve as a main style component in small bathroom or powder room lighting designs. See our vanity lights category and our How To Find the Best Bathroom Vanity Lighting guide for more information.
· Bath Wall Sconces: These are wall mounted bathroom light fixtures that you will likely find on either side of your bathroom mirror. When combined with another vanity light above a mirror or with an overhead ceiling light, this lighting layer can remove shadows and provide even illumination. In a large bathroom design, sconces might be placed for accent lighting purposes. You should think about the style and size of your bathroom mirror when selecting bath sconces. For example, you may want to pair a minimalist frameless vanity mirror with a set of modern bath sconces. Narrower mirrors in small bathrooms may only need bathroom sconces on either side, placed about 28” apart, and may not need overhead vanity lights at all.
· Bathroom Ceiling Lights: While vanity lights around the mirror may be the first to come to mind, complete light layers will also include bathroom ceiling lights to provide additional illumination. Consider placement and total lumens count in combination with any bathroom vanity lighting to determine which is the best bathroom ceiling light for your space. As a general rule of thumb, bathrooms require at least 70 lumens per square foot.
· Bathroom Chandeliers & Pendant Lights: Customers are often surprised to learn that chandeliers and pendant lights can both be incorporated into bathroom lighting designs! With bathroom hanging lights, you will need to consider a few additional elements beyond the brightness of the light. You should review damp and wet safety ratings for each fixture and consult a licensed electrician to determine the safest place to install a hanging light in a bathroom. For more sizing, placement, and design tips consult our How to Size a Bathroom Chandelier guide.

Many people mistakenly think that lighting in bathrooms is not as important as in living spaces. The basis for such decisions is the small size, the short period of time spent in these rooms and the usual standard design used in most cases of repair.
But precisely because these rooms are small in size, while being heavily loaded with various plumbing equipment (bath, sink, piping) and, most importantly, have a high humidity coefficient, the issue of setting lighting seems to be one of the most important here. .
In addition to the fact that for such premises it is necessary to choose a certain type of lamps, in addition to everything, it is necessary to place them in such a way that they are protected from water and that the light has a favorable effect on the eyes.
There are four main groups of bathroom fixtures: ceiling, wall, floor and mirror. For all their differences in appearance and attachment points, they have one thing in common. All of them must be waterproof.
Otherwise, the choice of appearance, size, quantity and location depend on the desire of the owner of the house or apartment. Very often, those who decide to decorate their bath in any style find it difficult to choose lamps, despite the fact that their range is simply huge.
The best way out in this situation is to contact the designer. But in the absence of sufficient finances, you just need to familiarize yourself with each type in more detail and determine which one is more suitable.
Ceiling lights
Ceiling lights represent the most common group. They can be rigidly fixed or have a movable system, as in the case of installation in false or stretch ceilings. The direction of the light can be different, depending on the position of the lamp.
Rigid mount is the common standard type most commonly used. The most common forms of such lamps: round, square, rectangular. Often one lamp is enough for a bathroom.
But sometimes, due to the fact that the lamps are covered with a moisture-proof cover and this creates dimness, more lamps can be installed (from two to four). Spotlights are gaining popularity as well.
Small in shape, with individually low light, together they create excellent soft lighting. It is also attractive that they can be placed on the ceiling in various configurations (for example, along the perimeter or in a grid).
Wall lamps
This type of lamp has gained the same popularity as ceiling lamps. The advantage of such lighting devices is the easier accessibility of their installation and dismantling. The complexity of repairing such lamps is also much reduced.
Depending on the style of the bathroom, you can choose a certain type of wall lamp. There are three in total:
- wall-mounted, fixed;
- sconce mounted on brackets. Installation locations can be different, so you will need additional wiring in electrical boxes;
- spot - a luminaire with an adjustable light direction system. When it is turned on, a direct light flux is created and a light spot is formed on the wall in the place where the light was directed.
The geometrical shapes of the wall lamps are the same as those of the ceiling lamps: round, square, rectangular. You can also place spotlights on the wall.
Unlike the ceiling, where they are in the same plane, on the walls they can be placed in any way, either on one wall, or evenly placed on all.
Floor lamps
Floor lamps look rather original. They are built into the floor tiles and play the role of a kind of spotlights. Their light is directed upwards, and reflected from the upper surface, it is scattered throughout the room.
The main requirement for the installation of such lighting fixtures is their moisture resistance. Of all types of lamps, they are the most susceptible to water ingress.
Mirror lights
Bathroom mirrors are a must. They are necessary for men to see themselves in the process of shaving, for women to apply makeup, and in general for families to wash themselves, put themselves in order, and so on. In general, one of the most necessary things in the bathroom.
In this regard, it is very important that it does not appear obscured. Therefore, in the area where the mirror is located, it is best to install small lamps. They can be arranged in a circle or oval of the mirror (depending on what configuration it is).
The lamps can only be positioned to the right and left of the mirror, or additionally above and below. Wall sconces or lamps with halogen lamps are best suited.
For large mirrors, LED strip around the perimeter is best suited. The light must be positioned so that it illuminates the mirror, but does not reflect in it and does not hit the eyes.
Luminaires for slatted ceilings
It is not uncommon for bathrooms to have slatted ceilings. Since the design refers to a suspended ceiling system, the fixtures in such ceilings are built-in. For them, special holes are prepared in the ceilings.
Luminaires for such ceilings can have a semicircular shape with a protrusion around the circle, which, when the luminaire is placed on the hole in the ceiling, closes the edges of the hole.
In general, with regard to the number and types of luminaires for the rack ceiling, their calculation and types are similar to the ceiling type.
LED luminaires
Sometimes designers resort to the use of LED luminaires, or rather LED strip, when lighting in bathrooms.
It looks very nice, because, unlike the fixed shapes of the above lighting fixtures, the ribbon with small lights located on it can bend.
This allows you to apply many options for its location. The tape itself is very durable, has a metal substrate made of aluminum or copper, but this does not create the effect of overheating for the lamps located on it. Sold as a roll.
Combined lighting
In most cases, both designers and those who decide to do everything themselves do not resort to only one type of lamp. Combined light arrangement options are very successful.
Luminous fluxes can be arranged in any way. All types of lamps are perfectly combined with each other. For example, floor-standing paired with wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted paired with mirrored ones.
It can be repeated once again, saying that the choice of fixtures in the bathroom requires a careful approach and those who do not follow this rule are doomed to the dim flickering of the ceiling lamp hanging above the door.
In other cases, when the issue of lighting is properly resolved, the bathroom space turns into a small island of coziness and comfort.

Technical requirements for lighting fixtures
A bathroom is a place in an apartment or house where the operating conditions of lamps are close to extreme. Frequent changes in air temperature, high humidity, splashes of water - not all interior lighting devices can withstand such a “microclimate”.
For this reason, the main parameter for choosing a luminaire for a bathroom is the degree of its protection from adverse environmental conditions. The degree of dust and moisture protection can be found by examining the information on the device case.
The required marking begins with the letters IP, followed by two numbers, the first of which indicates the level of protection against dust, the second - protection against moisture. The higher the numerical value of the index, the more reliable the lamp. The minimum level of moisture protection of the lighting device for rooms with high humidity is IP44, the maximum is IP67.
The choice of light source will also depend on the area of the bathroom in which it will be located. There are three of them:
- Zone 1 - directly above the bowl and washbasin or inside the shower cabin. Here it is allowed to place low-voltage lighting devices with a degree of protection of at least IP67, since there is a high risk of contact of the lamps with water up to their complete immersion. Less protected devices are simply not safe to operate in this area.
- Zone 2 - 30-60 cm from the borders of the first zone. It is allowed to place the same low-voltage devices here, but with a lower degree of protection - from IP 45 to IP 67. It is important that the light sources are sufficiently reliable, since the likelihood of water splashing on them in this area still remains.
- Zone 3 - 60 cm from the borders of the second zone. Here, water jets no longer threaten lighting fixtures, but since the humidity of the air, as in the rest of the room, is high, it is better to select light sources with an IP44 protection index or slightly lower.
Please note: if the bathroom is not well ventilated and even on distant walls condensation forms periodically, it means that there are no relatively safe zones in the room, so the lamps for it are selected only for zone 1 and zone 2.
Types of lighting for the bathroom rooms
Artificial lighting that can be used in the bathroom is divided into three types: ceiling, wall and floor. In one room, several variants of light sources can be combined at once, thus achieving an ideal luminous flux both from a decorative and functional point of view.
Ceiling light
This type of lighting is the main one. It is selected based on the dimensions and design features of the room, taking into account the presence / absence of additional light sources.
Traditional chandeliers are not suitable for standard bathrooms, they look too bulky in them, and simply interfere with hygiene procedures. An excellent alternative to such devices can be overhead or recessed ceiling lamps, LED strips, spot or spot lighting systems.
Wall lighting
Wall light sources are designed for zoning space and creating the highest quality lighting in individual work areas. If the area of the bathroom is small (less than 6 sq. M), there is no need for wall lighting - the main ceiling lamp will also cope with its functions. In more spacious rooms, you can use sconces, overhead appliances or spots.
Usually wall lamps are placed near the mirror. In this case, sconces should be used in pairs - on both sides of the reflective surface. Overhead devices are universal, they can be located horizontally above and below the mirror, or vertically - on the sides of it.
Spot systems can also be placed at the top, bottom or side, there is only one recommendation - the ceiling lamps of such devices should not be reflected in the mirror and other glossy surfaces - with such an arrangement, light sources will "dazzle" the eyes.
The mirror should not be illuminated with devices with bright colored shades - from such light sources your reflection will be distorted: the complexion and hair will become unnatural. The best option - devices made of frosted or transparent glass.
Floor lighting
This lighting fixture has a decorative function: it allows you to create a special cozy and romantic atmosphere in the bathroom. To organize such lighting, LED strips, recessed spotlights, luminous tiles, etc. are used.
LED strips are usually “laid” along the contours of the bathtub, washbasin and other furniture. An alternative to them can be LEDs placed randomly on the cable and laid in the tile joints of the floor. This backlight resembles a starry sky and looks very unusual.
Spotlights are placed along the perimeter of the room or along plumbing fixtures and furniture. The disadvantage of this type of lighting is the complexity of installation and subsequent replacement of light bulbs in appliances.
Luminescent floor materials glow on their own and are generally independent of the power supply. They have only one minus - the high cost. In addition, turning off such a lamp in the dark does not work.
Light characteristics
Types of lamps
Traditional incandescent lamps as well as fluorescent and LED light sources are suitable for bathrooms. Halogen bulbs are not safe to use in rooms with high humidity - if water gets on them, the glass can simply “explode” and injure the user.
Incandescent lamps tend to heat up during use and have a relatively short lifespan. Fluorescent light sources contain "mercury vapor", so their use in everyday life is, in principle, potentially dangerous.
The best option for a bathroom is LEDs: they give a good quality of light, do not heat up and last as long as possible.
Luminous flux
According to the established standards, for normal bathroom lighting, at least 200 Lux (lux (lx) - a unit of illumination) per 1 sq. meter of the room. Light output of lamps is measured in lumens (lm). 1 lux equals 1 lumen per square meter. meter.
For a standard 6 sq. m requires lighting with a power of 1200 lx. This power of the luminous flux is created by 1 incandescent lamp with a power of 100 W or an LED lamp with a power of 11 W.
Color rendering and temperature of light
The color rendering of a light source is the quality of reproduction of the natural colors of objects by artificial light.
