NATURAL KITCHEN COLOURS

The cool colours on the colour wheel are a good tool to get you started.   Blues, Greens and Sandy Tones are especially popular.

Blues 

Ocean blues are being used as a strong feature kitchen colour.  In 2023 we’ll be seeing the comeback of Royal Blue (which never really went away) and lighter Baby Blues.

Greens  

Mint and Sage Greens are a popular choice for a calming colour palette.

Neutrals 

We’re starting to see a move away from whites towards the more earthy colours of sand and the desert.

2. Mixed Materials & Textures

TIMBER 

In the kitchen, we’re seeing an increased use of timber, especially in 2-tone kitchens.

Timber brings more interest to the all-white kitchen and is now being combined with neutral shades of cream and off-whites as well.

The combination of timber doors and marble benchtops and splashbacks look fabulous but if you’re afraid to fully commit to timber, it can be used sparingly to accent just the bar back panel or open shelves for example.

Mixed Materials

The combination of old and new elements within the kitchen create a more lived-in vibe.

MIXED METALS

Muted finishes in tapware and handles such as pewter, copper and brushed brass create a toned-down effect that’s closer to nature.

MATT OR SATIN FINISH

Matt and Satin kitchen cupboard doors are a more popular choice than Gloss as they offer a warmer, less-polished look.

BOLDER SPLASHBACKS

Gloss finish tiles in neutral tones or the brighter coloured shades of blue, green, brown and sand.

Geometric shaped tiles make a statement and complement the  simpler lines found in the rest of the kitchen such as flat panel doors and a uniform-coloured benchtop.

Marble splashbacks display beautifully as they enhance the aesthetic of the kitchen and are noticed as soon as you enter the room.  We’re definitely seeing this striking trend in 2022 / 2023 and of course, the bolder the pattern, the better!

This handy addition with seating has become a staple in most kitchens today.   Not only do they add interest to the kitchen’s aesthetic; they provide additional storage and are the perfect spot to hang some feature pendant lights.  Most importantly, they’ve changed how we use kitchens today.  We’ve evolved from the days of the kitchen being akin to the servants’ quarters – out of sight, out of mind – to a communal area where friends and family can gather and socialise.  Much more functional and family-friendly.
