The 20 Most Famous Interior Designers Working Today

Overnight success is rare in the design industry. Most famous interior designers have spent years working with clients, developing product lines, and building their brands. Becoming a household name requires hustle—and lots and lots of media savvy. Today’s best-known designers took a variety of roads to the top, but now can often be spotted gracing the covers of magazines with buzzy commissions and clients, or landing regular gigs on TV. Once they made it, they figured out how to capitalize on their success and expand their reach worldwide. While they each have specific specialties and styles, these designers and architects have certainly left their mark on the industry, and continue to influence the way people live and decorate. Read on for AD PRO’s roundup of the most famous interior designers working today.

Joanna Gaines

In just six years, Joanna Gaines—with help from her contractor husband, Chip—has created a design empire. Since Fixer Upper premiered on HGTV in 2013, the designer and TV star has launched collaborations with mega brands like Target and Anthropologie, started a magazine, published books, and made shiplap and farmhouse-style design ubiquitous. The couple has also turned the town of Waco, Texas, into a tourist destination with the Magnolia Market at the Silos, a 4.9-acre shopping and dining complex that draws an estimated 30,000 people per week. While Fixer Upper ended its run in 2018, the Gaineses are continuing their path to design domination. Next up is a hotel in downtown Waco and their own cable television network.

Nate Berkus

In 2002, Nate Berkus made his debut on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and he quickly became one of America’s favorite design talents, landing TV shows, book deals, and collaborations galore. His eponymous firm, which he founded in 1995 at the age of 24, attracts an array of high-profile clients, including Ricky Martin, and Berkus has partnered on product lines with Target, Kravet, the Shade Store, and Framebridge. He and husband Jeremiah Brent star in TLC’s Nate & Jeremiah by Design and the couple recently unveiled their latest collection for Living Spaces.

Kelly Wearstler

In 2009, The New Yorker declared Kelly Wearstler “the presiding grande dame of West Coast interior design,” and since then her reach and influence have grown far beyond California. The trendsetter has shaped the hospitality industry with her designs for the Viceroy Hotels and Residences, Four Seasons Anguilla, and, most recently, Proper Hotels in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Austin. On the residential side, her client list includes Cameron Diaz, Ben Stiller, and Gwen Stefani, and she’s designed lines for Ann Sacks, Lee Jofa, the Rug Company, Georg Jensen, and Visual Comfort, as well as her own collection of furniture and accessories.

Martyn Lawrence Bullard

There are celebrity interior designers, and then there’s Martyn Lawrence Bullard, the go-to decorator for superstars like Elton John, Cher, Kylie Jenner, and Khloé and Kourtney Kardashian. He’s also a favorite collaborator for brands and has designed a dozen licensed lines that include tile for Ann Sacks, mattresses for Custom Comfort, and silver crowns for Christofle. When he’s not designing for the stars, Bullard is making his mark on the hospitality scene with interiors for Casa Laguna in Laguna Beach and the upcoming The Prospect in Los Angeles.

Bobby Berk

The past two years have been beyond big for Missouri native Bobby Berk. In 2018, he debuted as Queer Eye’s design expert and quickly became a fan favorite for his impactful home makeovers. The industry veteran launched his retail business back in 2006 and his eponymous design firm in 2015, but Queer Eye has brought his modern, livable style to a massive audience (as his 2.6 million Instagram followers attest). In October, Berk launched a furniture collection with A.R.T. Furniture at High Point Market featuring 44 pieces, several of which quickly sold out.

Peter Marino

Fashion’s favorite architect is Peter Marino. The design legend, who founded his firm in 1978 after working for Skidmore, Owings & Merrill; George Nelson; and I.M. Pei/Cossutta & Ponte, has designed stores for a who’s who of luxury fashion and jewelry brands including Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Bulgari, Hublot, Dior, Fendi, and Graff. His boutiques, like his residential projects, are known for their luxe materials and impressive art displays. He recently released a new textile line for Rubelli and unveiled Louis Vuitton stores in London and Seoul.

Justina Blakeney

L.A. designer Justina Blakeney turned her eclectic, plant-filled style into a hot trend and a booming business with 1.2 million Instagram followers. She started her design blog, Jungalow, in 2009, and since then she’s written a New York Times bestseller, The New Bohemians; launched an online store; and embarked on a number of collaborations with brands such as Anthropologie, Band-Aid, Target, and Loloi Rugs. Her latest endeavor is a limited-edition, size-inclusive line of apparel, We Wild by Justina Blakeney, and she plans on opening a brick-and-mortar outpost in the near future.

Emily Henderson

Designer Emily Henderson made America up its styling game and helped transform bookshelves, cocktail tables, and mantels across the country. Her big break was winning season five of HGTV Design Star, and her subsequent show on the network, Secrets From a Stylist, ran for two seasons. She shares design know-how with dedicated fans on her popular blog and her Instagram feed, where she has more than 835,000 followers. Her 2015 book, Styled: Secrets for Arranging Rooms, From Tabletops to Bookshelves, was a New York Times bestseller. In addition to running her interior design practice and content operation, Henderson serves as Target’s home style expert.

Jonathan Adler

Ever since his cheeky pottery debuted at Barneys in 1993, Jonathan Adler has been infusing homes with color and humor. He quickly expanded his business beyond ceramics, designing everything from pillows and furnishings to lighting and rugs. Adler’s design studio has created the interiors of the Parker Palm Springs and Eau Palm Beach, as well as private residences and model apartments. He has licensed lines galore, including his Now House brand on Amazon; a collection with cannabis lifestyle company Higher Standards; and partnerships with Kravet, H&M Home, and the Shade Store.

Our list of top 10 interior designers in Russia and the world. These renowned interior artists represent the flag bearer style, their work is creative, stunning and inspiring.

But the rating also includes specialists who do not have special awards, but have already won fame thanks to their unique work.

The best interior designers in Russia

A creative streak in the blood of a Russian person. Therefore, there are so many specialists in various fields, one of which is design. The interiors, made by people from the above list, delight not only with their perfection, but also with maximum comfort and coziness:

Results of 2020: the best designers and architects in Russia

Designers

Summing up: this time our 2020 list includes not only leading designers, but also architects. These people create private spaces, design houses, decorate restaurants and public spaces - they create the world that surrounds us and which we cherish so much.

Elena Akimova

Graduate of the Textile Institute. A. N. Kosygina began her career at the All-Union House of Models on Kuznetsky Most, where she worked as a clothing designer. Elena switched to interiors fifteen years ago and since then she has been decorating houses, apartments and private clinics in Russia and Europe, as well as painting. One of the latest projects - a house in Austria - the designer has turned into a real museum of contemporary art, and now she dreams of working on the interiors of a boutique hotel in Russia or Europe. Elena does not forget about her passion for the fashion industry, so on her Instagram, design and art coexist with fashionable images.

Olympiad Arefieva

Olympiad Arefieva has had a craving for creativity since childhood: she has several art schools, an architectural institute and "Details" behind her. The designer founded the Well Done Interiors bureau, which is worth contacting if you want to design a complex interior - Olimpiada masterfully copes with them. But during quarantine, she challenged herself and took on a simple American-style rental house, which immediately appeared on the pages of our magazine. But his main dream - to build his own house - the Olympics have yet to fulfill.

Nadezhda and Georgy Ananievs

Stroganov graduates and now teachers at the Details School and the British School of Design have never missed our list of Russia's best designers. Three years ago, the Ananievs opened a four-story gallery in Moscow, for which they personally select interesting pieces of modern and vintage furniture, paintings and sculptures. Nadezhda and Georgiy love art and dream of decorating a collector's house one day. They believe that in everyday life you need to surround yourself with designer items, and they teach their customers to do this.

Apartment designed by Nadezhda and Georgy Ananiev. Photo: Mikhail Loskutov.

“Art Bureau 1/1”

In 2006, Ilya Klimov and Elena Solovieva founded a bureau whose name stands for “artistic work created in a single copy”. They adhere to this principle in their work - their projects are never repeated. Most Moscow residents know them thanks to the Eklernaya Kler confectionery network, and photographs of the bureau's private projects have been published in many world publications. They dream of creating a hotel or public space based on the needs of the modern world.

Apartment in St. Petersburg according to the project “Art‑bureau 1/1”. Photo: Sergey Ananiev; stylist: Natalya Onufreychuk.

“Arch. Item”

“It seems to me that over the past few months we have all felt in a new way how important it is for the house to be our reflection and, no matter how trite it may sound, the very fortress where you want to return and where we feel comfortable,” says Olesya Sitnikova, founder of the bureau. In his minimalist works, the architect makes abundant use of wood, which always creates a warm atmosphere in the house, and prefers muted shades of fabrics and finishing materials.

Ariana Ahmad

Ariana's clients come to her again and again, and every time the designer comes up with something special. She manages well with small apartments and large spaces, is not afraid of rich dark colors and skillfully uses gray and beige. Most of the designer's projects are in Moscow, she recently completed a project for a large house in Israel and now she dreams of building a minimalist house in the mountains.

Ekaterina Begicheva

Having received a diploma as a choir conductor, Ekaterina Begicheva did not work a day in her specialty, but she opened a baguette workshop with a friend. At the same time she studied to be an antiquary and worked on apartments for her family - she got her hands on them before starting to work for customers in Russia and Europe. In 2010, she graduated with honors from the Details School. The designer carefully considers the layouts and loves to draw furniture for projects herself.

Natalia Belonogova, NB-Studio

Graduate of the St. Petersburg Academy. A. L. Stieglitz designed the lion's share of popular Moscow restaurants and public places, never repeating herself in artistic techniques. Remote work is not a novelty for her - Natalya is used to working anytime, anywhere. “But during the quarantine period, I learned to lie on the couch,” the designer laughs. While Muscovites spend time in Gorynych, Pinch and Severyany, Belonogova dreams of working on a museum or an art gallery.

Nikolai and Vladimir Belousov

The main Russian masters of wooden architecture, father and son Belousov, work according to the ancient technologies of woodworking and log building. To ensure the quality was at its best, they launched their own production in the Kostroma region, where houses are manually cut from cedar and larch according to their projects. And so that the secrets of building log cabins did not sink into oblivion, Nikolai and Vladimir opened the “Drevolution” school, where they teach young architects how to work with wood.

Maria Vatolina

Graduate of the Textile University. Kosygina worked as an interior stylist for a long time, and then she began to create residential and public spaces herself. Maria is not afraid to work with color and textures and knows how to combine seemingly incompatible things with each other. The lack of the opportunity to travel taught Vatolina to look for inspiration within herself, and she realized that she wanted to design a house in a nature reserve on the edge of the earth.

Timofey Veresnovsky

Timofey is a debutant in the list of the best designers in Russia. Despite the fact that he did not study the interior business, the designer clearly understands how to change the existing space so that it sparkles with new colors. Timofey loves vintage, which abounds in his projects, and increasingly designs furniture himself - in his opinion, it is custom-made items that make the interior original and unique. Veresnovsky has long wanted to work abroad, and his dream has become a reality: now he is making interiors in an old house in London.

Gulya Galeeva

After working on the first project, Gulya Galeeva's clients often come back to her because they like the designer's work. She loves art, without which she cannot imagine either the houses of her clients or her own, and even organized a real gallery in Gulya's office. “Over the past six months, I have learned to see beauty every day in the most prosaic things and appreciate even more the joy of communicating with family and friends,” says the designer. She handles both classic and modern interiors equally well and wants to work on an old manor and design a spaceship.

Marina Gaskova

By her first education, Marina is a philosopher, she has worked in fashion for a long time, and has devoted the last ten years to interior design. She works with both small apartments and entire mansions, while everywhere she pays special attention to the layout and everyday comfort of the residents. “The house should nourish and protect, not annoy and tire,” the designer believes. “Therefore, everyone should have their own place to live and, if necessary, to work.” Marina dreams of restoring an old liberty style villa somewhere on lakes in Italy and planting a magical garden there.

Alexei Ginzburg

This year, the hereditary architect managed to “close all family gestalts” and complete the work he had been doing for the past thirty years: after a long restoration, two buildings were opened at once, which were built by Ginzburg’s grandfather and great-grandfather, the Narkomfin building and the building "Izvestia". Alexey himself also dreams of building a public building that will become part of the history of Moscow architecture - a theater, a concert hall or a public center that will meet the needs of a modern person.

Alexander Glikman

Founded his architectural studio twenty-five years ago and has since built more than two hundred objects around the world. Alexander Glikman works not only with entire buildings, his portfolio also includes small apartments and individual items: chairs, tables, sofas, fireplaces and even doorknobs. The architect skillfully fits antique furniture into strict minimalist interiors, and vice versa, and considers manual labor to be the most important: painting, wood carving, plaster molding or metal work. But still he dreams of high - to build an ideal city.

Irina Glik

The author of the interior of the sensational Sakhalin restaurant founded her Geometry bureau in 2003 and since then has been engaged in private and public interiors around the world. “During the lockdown, we designed and built in record time, without leaving the site, a large restaurant project in Bodrum, constantly coming up with new projects and supervising construction sites,” says Irina. She is interested in working with any objects - from a small bathhouse and apple orchards to the reconstruction of the embankment and the transformation of an old printing house into a boutique hotel.

Yuliya Golavskaya

Yulia has a psychology faculty and a “Details” school behind her, but she considers design to be her vocation. “I perceive each project as a new adventure, like a new romance,” says the designer. Golavskaya is proud of the fact that over the years she has always had a stable result, and at the same time she is not afraid to try something unusual. This year Julia learned how to design interiors according to Vastu philosophy and even designed a real home altar.

Elena Gorenshtein

The designer is active on Instagram, where she publishes photos of her projects and short stories that have nothing to do with pictures, but collect a lot of comments and bring Elena new customers. She prefers to work in a minimalist style, while her interiors are filled with unusual colors, textures and, of course, art. This year, Elena tried to work remotely, living in the country, and she liked it so much that she is going to repeat this experience.

Katya Gulyuk

The main event of her life is getting an art history education at Moscow State University. There and during her further work in museums, as well as on numerous travels, Katya accumulated a store of knowledge about beauty and now she uses it in her projects - generous and cheerful, like a Sunday breakfast in a summer garden. This is exactly the person you should contact if you need a real country house - solid, with traditions and family traditions. Katya also dreams of working on the interiors of a small hotel somewhere in nature.

Boris Denisyuk

The founder of Buro 5 grew up in a creative family with parents who were architects. As a child, I didn’t play with toys, but with mock-ups, in my youth I worked as a graphic designer in glossy magazines, a few years ago, together with a colleague, I came up with the Polymino project - a concept of typical housing with two-level apartments, with a large scenario and plot variety, which he considers his best work. Boris makes clean, modern interiors, works great with small spaces, and dreams of building a home that will host movies or immersive performances.

Dmitry Dolgoy and Tatyana Borisova

The architect is the owner of a heroic appearance and builds houses to match: large-scale and solid. Dmitry's customers are clearly not the type of people who want extra publicity - his projects rarely appear in magazines. We, as the media, are a little sad about this, but we will not stop recommending Dmitry: if you need a noble and honest modern architecture, you will find a common language with him.

Druzhba

Prior to founding her bureau in 2017, Moscow Architectural Institute graduates Anna Rodionova, Bella Filatova, Anastasia Rychkova and Alexandra Chertkova worked at Wowhaus and with Totan Kuzembaev. They believe that a comfortable urban environment is the first step towards improving the quality of life, and would like to create a space that will change the life of the whole city. They use a participatory design methodology that involves the local community in the project and helps to avoid conflicts. They know how to work with children and even launched the Dragon Project educational center.

Irina Dymova

Irina is one of those who is always among the first: she once worked in the first Russian glossy magazine Domovoy, then she was among the first graduates of the Details decoration school and appeared in our very first list of the best designers Russia. Dymova's projects are always piecemeal, she never had a large bureau, so in addition to the interior from a decorator with twenty years of experience, her customers also enjoy communicating with a versatile, interesting and cheerful person.

Maria Yedinaya

Designer originally from Kazan, now lives in St. Petersburg. She started working during her studies, she opened her own bureau three years ago. But, despite her youth, Maria's projects already have courage and confidence, which ensured her popularity on our site and a place on this list. United offers customers only what she loves: vintage, bright colors and expressive prints, and the work on the project begins with “architecture alignment”.

Zhenya Zhdanova

The soul of the company, the mother of three sons and a woman of inexhaustible energy, Zhdanova managed to move mountains in a few quarantine months. Having temporarily moved to Tarusa, she immediately took up the reconstruction of the arboretum garden and the house-museum of the Soviet agronomist Nikolai Rakitsky, and at the same time completely remotely designed a large villa in Mallorca. Zhenya gives lectures, writes books, does charity work, but will certainly find time for your interior. Especially if the work involves going beyond the ordinary - this is what she loves and is proud of.

Inna Zavyalova

The founder of ADD Buro by Inna Zaviyalova most of all appreciates the emotions that her interiors evoke in her clients. Zavyalova's projects did not leave us indifferent either, so for the second time we are publishing her work in the collection of the best designers in Russia. Inna believes that family and home are the main values. It is logical that her interiors are traditional in spirit. Dreams and plans include the creation of their own small hotel, the guests of which will be able to appreciate the beauty of this approach to life.

Anna Zinkovskaya

She studied as an industrial designer, but even at the institute she realized that she was more attracted to interiors - Zinkovskaya has been designing them since 2001. She likes to work thoughtfully and slowly, but this summer she suddenly restored an old Soviet dacha in just two and a half months (we published this project in the September issue). Among the main successes of the year is the interior of an apartment in a building built in 1835, which required work with archives and the involvement of artisans. Anna knows how to properly deal with the past, but is open to experimentation - up to the design of the yacht.

Irakli Zaria

You never know what the next interior from Irakli will be - strict monochrome or sparkling bright. But certainly flawless: we have a suspicion that a rare gene of elegance is built into the DNA of this designer. Mandatory participants in his projects are contemporary art, noble vintage and bespoke items.

Kirill Istomin

Over the past year, Kirill managed to release an author's online course, prepare a book of his projects for publication, sit in quarantine twice and grow a bushy beard. The decorator's new project graced the cover of our October issue - this interior shows that Istomin masterfully works not only in the traditional style with which he is usually associated, but also in the modern one. Dreams of decorating the villa "La Leopolda" on the Cote d'Azur. And when asked about the price of services, he laughs it off: “If this is my dream project, then the cost of my services will be quite low.”

Inart

Larisa Romanova, Olga Volodina and Tatyana Ozhegova have been working together since 2003. They love modern classics, art deco, antiques, vintage and custom-made furniture. We would like to design a modern Russian manor - using traditional materials and techniques, but relevant in spirit and content. We are sure that, whatever the circumstances, a good project cannot be done without architectural supervision. In recent years, they have taken on not only projects from scratch, but also engaged in redesign.

House designed by Inart Bureau.

Irina Krashennikova

Irina is from the Urals and studied philosophy at the University of Yekaterinburg. And he also takes a philosophical approach to interior design, which he has been professionally doing for thirteen years: he tries to find the boundaries of modern Russian style, relying on Soviet heritage and Scandinavian design. “This style is multicultural, original and a bit naive,” she says.

Marina Kutuzova

The founder of the Details studio from Kaliningrad implements most of her projects there, on the shores of the Baltic Sea. Marina has been engaged in interiors since 2004, and since then she has developed a recognizable style: dark cold colors, a lot of air, good designer furniture. And be sure to shutters, this is Kutuzova's signature technique. Like many of her colleagues, the designer dreams of working on the design of a small hotel, but for now, she helps customers find harmony in the interior, the demand for which is only growing after quarantine.

Apartment designed by Marina Kutozova.

Nikolay Lyzlov

Nikolai is a happy person: he is proud of all his projects, and his favorite of them is a small four-story building with ten apartments. The architect complains that it is now impossible to build something like this in Moscow, and generally believes that in our modern life, much is arranged incorrectly - the last quarantine months have clearly shown this. Lyzlov may not save our entire metropolis, but the life of a single customer will definitely make it better. He is not only a good architect, but also an interesting, intelligent interlocutor, which is also important. And besides, he promises that the more interesting the task assigned to him, the lower his fee will be.

Daria Meyer

A graduate of the architectural and art lyceum at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, she chose between the careers of an artist and an interior designer for a long time and finally decided to combine them. Color plays an important role in her works, and Daria works out the details carefully, as if painting a picture. Living in St. Petersburg, he often creates interiors in old houses, but adds extravagant modern details to the classic surroundings. I am sure that in the light of recent events in the interior, multifunctionality is relevant.

Olga Maleva

Olga appreciates the American way of life and studies it not in theory, from books and albums, but in practice, traveling around the USA. It is no coincidence that her project got into our recent American issue, and not so long ago we published the designer’s own apartment, which will tell about her tastes and favorite techniques better than any words - there are iconic vintage items, and objects of her own design, and a strong foundation in the form of a verified layouts.

Natela Mankayeva

The founder of the Decorator N studio is rightly proud of the fact that it never repeats: Natela can make both a successful stylization of a French chateau and a modern urban interior. Although, of course, she also has her favorite techniques - for example, impeccable carpentry (which is made by the workshop of her husband and colleague Kamo Muradov) and good vintage (Mankaeva collaborates with the Mirra Gallery). Now the decorator discovers his historical homeland, Georgia, and builds a house there. There is no doubt that this will become a new source of inspiration for her.

Natalia Maslova

The founder of the 3L Decor studio lived in Prague for eight years (it was still “in a past life” when she studied economics), and having received a decorating education, she made several projects in London. “I really love the so-called simple luxury approach, when there are few items, but they are all discreet, elegant and certainly of the highest quality,” she says. Natalia takes on not only designing from scratch, but also redecorating finished interiors - she considers the ability to create the right atmosphere in the house to be the most interesting and difficult task.

Tatiana Mironova

An architect by training, Tatiana arranges the space with such care that other decorators could envy. He calls his approach “from idea to toothbrush”. It is taken both for large-scale objects and for small apartments. And most importantly, she says that she is not ashamed of any completed project, even after many years. She makes jewelry, paints and never gives up. “The pandemic has taught the main thing: you can work in slippers! You get organized when there are only temptations around - food, sofas, TV, relatives, all sorts of hobbies - better and even more quickly.

Aleksey Nikolashin

A hereditary architect and founder of the SL Project bureau, Aleksey knows his worth. One of the objects of his pride is a recognizable handwriting. And indeed it is. Alexey is a master of large-scale, significant projects, whether it is a country house, a villa on the sea coast or a city apartment. Large objects arranged like pieces on a chessboard make it possible to estimate the amount of space.

Sergey Ogurtsov

Former marketer decided to devote himself entirely to interiors after ten years ago his very first project got into AD. Being a fan of the American style, he went to study at the San Francisco Academy of Arts and even then mastered remote work that is relevant today. “The pandemic has forced me to reconsider my consumption policy. Now I want to consume less and easier and devote more time to real things, ”Sergey shares. I wonder how this will affect his projects. In truth, we have never seen random things in its interiors before.

Natalya Pantyukhina

A year ago, a frame from Natalya's interior appeared on the cover of AD's special issue “The Best Designers of Russia”, and in 2020 our May issue featured a photo of a Tuscan villa she restored. As can be seen from these works, she is equally successful in both modern urban interiors and historic mansions. Natalya solves complex creative tasks not least thanks to her education: she studied as a ceramist at Vasnetsov's Abramtsevo College, and then graduated from Stroganovka.

Polina Pidtsan

Polina is strong not only in creativity, but also in business: a couple of years ago she managed to complete 32 apartments on a turnkey basis for a large development project in just six months. At the same time, she continues to make piece interiors for her customers in her favorite American style. In the October issue, Polina opens up from an unexpected angle - her latest project published in AD turned out to be saturated in color. And it is clear that she also likes to experiment: Pidtzan dreams of setting up a small hotel on the sea, where all the rooms will be different in style and color.

Maria Pilipenko

Formerly a lawyer and now a decorator with fifteen years of experience, Maria often takes on interiors in houses with history. Her portfolio includes apartments in pre-revolutionary, constructivist and Stalinist buildings in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The experience of working with heritage is her main professional pride. And the main professional dream was to decorate an apartment in an apartment building with preserved historical interiors. And it recently came true - well deserved. We are looking forward to the result.

Natalia Popova

Natalia's decorating career began with the design of her own house - the result of many years of work that forced her to change her profession, see this material. “A designer is like an artist who cannot help but play,” Popova says. “He must work all the time, train his imagination and see the result of his work.” Natalia's own house in places resembles an old castle, and now she dreams of working with real antiquity and making a project in a historical building.

“Project905”

The style in which the founders of the studio work is closest to Scandinavian: Alexey Dunaev and Marianna Zapolskaya design modern, concise and rational buildings and interiors. The architects are confident that although design will not save the world, as recent months have shown, “the quality and comfort of our homes are critical to psychological well-being.” They themselves would prefer to isolate themselves in a house on the seashore - according to their own design, of course.

Petr Safiullin

The Kazan architect is equally enthusiastic about interior design and object design. Once, having discovered his grandfather's carpentry tools in the shed, Peter got the idea to start manufacturing furniture. So in 2004, the Yaratam factory appeared. Translated from Tatar, it means "I love." This is indeed the architect's longest and most beloved project. “Reviews and ratings of people at exhibitions and those who already use our items are our greatest pride,” says Petr. In life and in the interior appreciates flexibility and freedom.

Evgeniy Skorikov

A graduate of the Academy of Arts opened his own bureau in 2005 and since then has been designing both residential and public interiors. And since Evgeny lives in St. Petersburg, he often deals with historical buildings. For example, the designed restaurant "Farm Benois" is located in a red-brick building of a 19th century cowshed. At the same time, Yevgeny's projects are absolutely modern in spirit - he harmoniously combines history and the laconic style of the 21st century.

Ekaterina Spinelli

Self-taught designer, trained in Canada where she worked in a bureau that styled demo apartments for developers. Now Ekaterina is implementing this approach in Russia: most often, her studio Art of Interiors does not work for the end customer, but makes interiors for sale. Which does not negate unusual solutions such as sheet metal stairs, vintage furniture and art.

Boris Uborevich-Borovsky

The works of the architect can be observed throughout Moscow - the building of the Multimedia Art Museum, the pavilion "Worker and Kolkhoz Woman", the residential building "Parus" on Khodynka field and many others. He also takes on private projects, but much less often - he prefers public architecture, although he will definitely build one private house: his own. Smiling Boris is not afraid of any life circumstances - he believes that all bad things come to an end, you just have to wait for a good period in life, and it will certainly come.

Leyla Ulukhanli

In recent years, Leyla has been devoting more and more time to product design. She loves retro aesthetics very much, while using the most modern materials and production technologies, so Leyla Uluhanli furniture will suit almost any interior. “Of course, the epidemic has made adjustments to our lives, because today the quality of work largely depends on the speed of the Internet,” says the designer. Although in the harmonious projects of Ulukhanli, the last thing you want to think about is high technology.

Alexandra Fedorova

Alexandra graduated from the Moscow Architectural Institute and worked at Mosproekt-4, after which she founded her own bureau and switched from urban planning to designing private villas - now there are houses of her authorship both in Russia and in Europe. Fedorova's calling card is minimalist rectangular houses that you want to look at in detail. Alexandra is very disciplined and requires the same clarity from her customers - this helps to meet the deadlines and quality of work. And in her free time, she dreams of building a museum of modern art.

Marina Filippova

Born in St. Petersburg, studied economics there, went to the USA to study art history, and then graduated from the Academic School of Design in Moscow. The designer's portfolio includes many villas in Russia and Europe. Marina loves vintage very much, actively uses it in projects and designs furniture herself, which fits the mood of a particular interior. Filippova looks for inspiration in everything, from books to the beauties of her native St. Petersburg, and dreams of building a romantic villa on a desert island, where only the most modern technologies will be used.

Tatyana and Dmitry Khoroshevy

“A room is not a box with a door in which you need to arrange furniture, but a system for arranging volumes,” the architects say. “We mentally visualize the interior, taking into account all the needs of a person, from the size of sofas to the height of switches. And already around these interior compositions we “build” the walls. It's like building worlds in the movie Inception. It doesn’t matter what the area will be, they are happy to take on both small apartments and serious houses. They are doing the most difficult and therefore interesting project now - they are building a house right on the seashore in Greece. And in the future we would like to work on a hotel in Mexico.

Alla Shumeyko

Alla studied at the International School of Design and at "Details", and after that she had an internship in Holland, Belgium and France. The designer skillfully uses rich dark colors, vintage and antique furniture (he has a special love for massive carved sideboards) and complements them with modern design. As a result, Alla produces decorative interiors in which it is very comfortable and pleasant to live and you can use all the treasures that are at home without fear.

Anna Erman

Anna mastered the design business on her own - endless travels, curiosity and the desire to do things with her own hands led her to what she is now doing. Erman's portfolio contains not only houses and apartments, but also an ice palace, an educational institution, a manicure hall, a sewing studio and her own house and garden, which can be called her creative testing ground. Anna invites potential customers to her home to see what it is like to live in the interior “from Erman”, and prefers to work sitting in her favorite chair.

Ekaterina Yakovenko

While completing her diploma in project management at the HSE, Ekaterina realized that she wanted to continue her education and trained as a designer at Central Saint Martins College. She is interested in working with all styles and sizes of premises, and in Ekaterina's portfolio there are tiny apartments decorated in the spirit of English castles, and there are minimalistic bright spaces. For her projects, the designer often comes up with furniture herself, which is made according to her sketches.

Ab-architects

The founders of the bureau are MARCHI graduates Lidia, Vedran and Zlatan Brkic and Igor Metelkin. “Our team consists of very different creative people who complement each other, and for each customer we have an architect who is similar in temperament and worldview,” says Lydia. The bureau believes that architecture is inseparable from the interior, so they prefer to build houses from scratch, but they also take on large, spacious apartments with pleasure.

Aiya Design

Aya Lisova, the founder of the bureau, has a serious education - the Department of Art History at Moscow State University, the International School of Design and the Chelsea College of Arts in London. She founded her own company and continues to meticulously develop it in different directions - from interior design to educational courses. Aya believes that the key to success is clarity in work and transparency of processes, as well as the ability to delegate, because then she can devote herself to new projects and tasks.

Alexander Kozlov Interiors

Alexander Kozlov designed his own house together with his wife Anastasia Blagodnaya, and it became a reflection of the worldview of the architects. They love timeless classics and contemporary interiors that complement art from around the world. The geography of their work is also not limited to their native Russia. For example, Alexander and Anastasia's portfolio includes an 1882 Georgian mansion in Scotland that they restored, as well as villas and apartments in France and London.

ANC concept

Architects Petr Lukyanov and Kirill Ustinov believe that a competent layout does not depend on the area of the object, and they successfully demonstrate this by the example of their work. They are not afraid of color - their portfolio shows the whole palette, from light to bright and black shades, while they do not adhere to a certain style and like to take on unusual tasks. During self-isolation, architects thoughtfully worked on several projects at once - they are sure that more and better can be done slowly. In the future, we would like to work in our beloved Italy, for example, to restore the Palace Varese Grand Hotel.

Architectural Studio Re

The founder of the bureau, Katerina Vinogradova, named her studio Re from the word Respect. Respect for the environment, architectural canons, culture, history, nature, space and personality, as well as attention to detail and texture are the foundations of her work. In interiors, Katerina prefers calm, muted shades and uses only natural materials.

Art Group

The founder of the studio, Daria Vasilkova, seeks inspiration for her work in numerous trips around the world, and when they became impossible, she began to explore the expanses of her native country - she went to Altai. Vasilkova devotes a lot of time to object design - she produces chests of drawers, sofas and accessories made according to the zero-waste principle, which she exhibited in her gallery Rossana Orlandi. Through his interiors, the designer loves to tell stories that everyone reads differently and wants to create a multifunctional space for creativity and business.

BHD Studio

Even while studying at the "Details" school, Irina Markman and Ekaterina Nechaeva realized that they wanted to work together. Now their portfolio includes several bright apartments filled with vintage furniture and art - they love it so much that they even opened the Art Brut Moscow art gallery, under the roof of which various artists have gathered. Designers themselves are not averse to being creative and are happy to draw, make art objects and sculptures with their hands, and even take part in their construction projects.

BIGO

Elizaveta Golubtsova and Marina Biryukova met at Moscow Architectural Institute and have been working together ever since. They really appreciate when customers trust them and eventually even become friends. Elizaveta and Marina carefully consider every detail in the interior to make the most of the space, and love to work with color, so their interiors are always cheerful. Now their portfolio mainly includes modern minimalist projects, but the architects do not stop there and dream of renovating a historic interior in France or Spain.

CHEBURDESIGN

Graduates, and now teachers of the Department of “Furniture Design” MGHPA them. S. G. Stroganova specialize in spaces for children. “We closely monitor our children and test each new piece of furniture, non-standard ergonomics or new layout for them,” say Kirill and Elena Cheburashkin. “For us, not only the convenience and safety of the space is important, but also how interesting it is for children. If the prototype does not arouse their interest and positive emotions, then we will develop another one.” Their portfolio includes school classes, and private kindergartens, and a children's room in the oncology department of the Center. Pirogov, but Cheburashkins have yet to realize their dream - to build a convenient state kindergarten.

Crosby Studios

Studio founder Garry Nuriev decorates trendy restaurants and celebrity apartments in Moscow and New York. His trademark candy-colored minimalist spaces look great on Instagram and are very comfortable in life. Harry also enjoys creating zero-waste furniture: for Nike, he made a collection of chairs from old sneakers, and for Balenciaga, a sofa stuffed with worn sweatshirts. Nuriev actively participates in world exhibitions - his art installations were both at Design Miami and Cosmoscow.

DA bureau

Half of the restaurant news from St. Petersburg has the phrase DA bureau — architects have a hand in the most famous restaurants in the city, these are Birch, Made in China, Under the Sea, Gastroli and many others. “We are convinced that a well-organized space is the foundation of the entire project, therefore we work with space and volume, and not with flatness and decor,” says Boris Lvovsky, one of the founders of the bureau. Architects use only natural materials and avoid bright colors.

Enjoy Home

Nadya Zotova was born into a family of doctors and also studied medicine, but she realized that love for interior design is higher than the Hippocratic oath, so she graduated from the British School of Design and Sotheby’s Institute of Art. She actively shares design secrets on Instagram and creates bright, cozy interiors that are comfortable and pleasant to live in. He makes furniture, teaches students and arranges design trips around the world, but for now flights are prohibited, he dreams of building a spa hotel in a nature reserve where there will be no Internet and telephone - only unity with nature.

Form

New to our list, but not in the A&D environment. The bureau was founded by Olga Treivas and Vera Odyn, who studied at the Moscow Architectural Institute. For nine years, the former classmates have been working together, they design mainly public spaces, and their main strong point is the scenography of exhibitions. The portfolio of the Bureau Form includes forty decorated exhibition spaces in the main museums of Moscow, as well as a joint project with OMA of the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. Olga and Vera put art above all else: if they are very interested in a project, they can develop it at their own expense.

Le Atelier

Architect Sergey Kolchin and his team create not sterile minimalist interiors, but residential ones. “Minimalism in the classical sense is complex and expensive,” Sergey explains. - The absence of a plinth and even seams require skill, technical imagination, managerial heroism and do not forgive mistakes. Everything that is in space is subject to increased requirements, it must be perfect. What our bureau does, I would naively call postirony, there is too much pathos in minimalism for us.”

Marion Studio

The design studio, founded in 2011, now has sixteen people, but the backbone is Mikhail and Maria Mironenko, as well as Margarita Melnikova. The Marion Studio team creates modern interiors with classic features, the right proportions and almost always completes all the work on a turnkey basis, selecting accessories and art. And this is the right approach when it comes to front and at the same time comfortable living spaces. Designers work closely with customers and maintain good relations with many of them.

MK-Interio

St. Petersburg architectural studio, founded by graduates of the St. A. L. Stieglitz by Maria Makhonina and Alexandra Kazakovtseva. For twenty-four years of joint work, they have handed over more than one hundred and fifty projects. Maria and Alexandra have their own principles and corporate identity. For example, their interiors always echo the architecture or landscape outside the window, they will not make an inappropriate interior and convince customers of this. And the showroom of the studio, which opened in the center of St. Petersburg last year, can be considered the quintessence of their corporate identity.

Nefa Architects

If you go to the site of this studio, then in their portfolio you can see large-scale projects - airport buildings and offices of large companies. But Nefa Architects private houses also build and decorate their interiors. They work in a modern style and love to be approached by experienced clients who know what to expect and are willing to provide creative freedom. Their main expressive means are the textures of building and finishing materials. Dmitry Ovcharov, head of the studio, admits that he dreams of building a museum.

NIDO interiors

Photographs of the interiors of this office do not convey all the functionality and logic of planning, but they can be seen in their approach to the skillful combination of materials, subtle play of textures and volumes. Each new project in NIDO interiors is considered a challenge and is worthy of accepting it. Bureau employees are minimalists and supporters of absolute cleanliness, but they understand that it is quite difficult to achieve it in living spaces, so they create interiors in which it is easy to maintain order, and accessories brought by customers will not spoil the overall picture.

Oleg Klodt Architecture & Design

The architectural bureau headed by Oleg Klodt and Anna Agapova is twenty years old. They work in Russia and abroad - the second office is in London. Oleg and Anna have been designing interiors and since 2017 have been producing furniture, lamps, carpets, textiles and wallpapers according to their sketches under the O&A London brand. This year, ten percent of the sale of each Ocean-designed carpet goes to 4Ocean. Klodt dreams of building a house on a mountainside, fitting it into the landscape, while Agapova dreams of designing a hotel or designing a sailing yacht, not only the interior, but the ship itself. This creative duo has long been ready for such large-scale projects.

Only Design

The projects of Prokhor Mashukov and Olga Sedova are more like creative installations, but in fact, designers and their close relatives live just like that: surrounded by classic murals and paintings, hand-made objects, and art objects in pop art style. Prokhor and Olga are not afraid to express themselves - and you will be taught the same. So if you want an original interior and are ready to test how far you can go in creative fantasies, then you know where to turn.

P+Z

Architect Pavel Zheleznov and designer Ivan Pozdnyakov formed a new creative duo, both of whom have fifteen years of work behind them and projects published in AD. Pavel and Ivan create modern functional interiors and do not neglect the techniques of classical architecture, as well as art objects. They dream of demonstrating all their skills in the project of some museum of modern art in Moscow.

Studio Quatrobase

Spouses Ilya and Svetlana Khomyakov dream of building a house where architecture and interior would be connected. We would also like to see such a project in their execution. The Khomyakovs have their own recognizable style, while all their projects are original, without replicated clichés. They know how to work with improvised materials and mislead the observer with spectacular and inexpensive decorative techniques that they themselves come up with.

Rhizome

A team of architects led by Evgeniy Reshetov, Alexandra Kim and Tatyana Sinelnikova focus on public interiors – their portfolio abounds with hotels, restaurants and shops. One of the latest works is the renovation of the Torzhkovsky market, which the architects are going to turn from a trading platform into a comfortable and modern space. Future plans include working on a kindergarten, school or university project. “Educational projects are the quintessence of accessible and humane architecture, within whose walls the future is being shaped,” the architects say.

Sisters' Design

“The pandemic has given us all a unique opportunity to realize how important it is to live in the present, to give more time to ourselves and our families,” say sisters Irina Markidonova and Ilona Menshakova. They create beauty around themselves and teach their customers the same: absolutely everything in and around the house should be pleasant for you, whether it is a dining table or a soap dispenser. Designers love black and use it a lot in their work, which never looks gloomy. The plans include the creation of a hotel, a restaurant of local cuisine and a spa on the shores of the Baltic Sea.

Studioplan

Designers Philip Tangalychev and Daria Kasatskaya believe that the most important task in their work is to find a convenient, simple and beautiful solution for the existing space, so they pay great attention to layouts and storage systems. Detailed cabinets and racks, where each item will have its own place, are one of the main “chips” of the bureau. Philip and Daria have made many projects in the old fund and are very careful about the heritage, bit by bit preserving the old brick or stucco.

Suite Home Interiors

Together, Polina Belyakova and Ekaterina Grigorieva have five educations - publishing, finance, art history, the "Details" school and courses at KLC. They love and know how to work with gray and white colors and pay close attention to layouts: according to the designers, there should not be spaces in an apartment or house that are not used. For fifteen years of work, they have reached the level where each new order is called a dream project. “In general, we are dreamers,” say Polina and Ekaterina, “only with an extremely useful skill to make dreams come true.”

Sundukovy Sisters

Olya and Ira Sundukovy are masters of intricate public interiors. There are restaurants and hotels created according to their design all over the world, from the USA to Hong Kong, and in Moscow you can see the result of the fantasy of the Sundukov sisters in the Bosco Mishka Bar in GUM or in the Lucky Izakaya restaurant on Bolshaya Nikitskaya. “We are looking for inspiration in the history of the place, improvising with modern materials and subtly ironic about the features of the location,” say the designers. They dream of setting up a boutique hotel on a desert island, where only sustainable materials will be used.

Uglova Design

Ekaterina Uglova has been creating interiors for ten years and believes that quality is much more important than quantity. She carefully works out every centimeter of space - for example, a huge plaster bas-relief for one of the projects was made for five whole months. The designer dreams of building a minimalistic house where the landscape will seem to go inside, and the interior will be just an addition to nature.

Wowhaus

Gorky Park and Sokolniki, Krymskaya Embankment, Krasnogvardeisky Ponds, the area around the Polytechnic Museum - these and many other areas were created by the architects of the Wowhaus bureau. Oleg Shapiro, Dmitry Likin and Anna Ishchenko founded it in 2007 and since then they have been dealing only with public spaces. The bureau believes that a good architect should easily move from the scale of an urban lamp to the planning problems of the city, so Wowhaus's urban spaces are both functional and beautiful.
